Iron Man 2 Movie Trailer
they'll take both obviously but in their minds...they think more of the profits
and for people like will smith, he can rack in both...
so anyone thinking of making money and getting attention considering how well known jen is, would pick aniston over winslet...
Here's the explanation "Sex In The City" made over 150mil and "The Proposal" has already made 75mil world wide and it's only been out a few weeks. Meanwhile aside from "Titanic", "The Reader" is Winslet highest grossing film at around 90mil and the majority of her films have made less then 10mil. She's arguably the best actress on that list but she just doesn't make hit movies.
Meryl Streep was in Mamma Mia last year which made $600m worldwide. Sarah Jessica Parker was in Sex and the City which made $415m worldwide.
I wouldnt even compare the grosses of Smart People and Doubt.
Yet Forbes thinks Meryl only made $1m more than Sarah Jessica Parker.
The whole list seems a work of fiction, hardly surprising.
Your post is assuming that everybody is working for the same thing, a percentage of the gross. That's just not how it works...
Sure Sandra Bullock didn't have a movie released in 2008, but that doesn't mean she wasn't working on. Do you think actors don't get paid up front for movies they are working on?
Here is a question, what actors and actresses would be on a top 100 list? How many males vs. females would be on the list? Not many females bring much to a film outside of sex appeal... and that is the choice of the actress. Transformers 2 films Fox bent over too many times, and how many lines does she have in the film? Female leads are rare, giving Jolie a couple but none of which are great films by any standard. If Jolie wanted double pay to match some of the male actors, she wouldn't be cast.
WOW. Nothing like a sexist comment to defend a sexist industry. I am a male, and I even I can see that this is sexist. You are saying that for most part, women aren't in movies for anything but sex appeal, and that somehow that is their choice. When in reality, most writers, directors, and producers are MALE, voiding your entire argument. Sure, women don't have to take rolls that are "sexy", but they are working in a male dominated industry where those are pretty much the only high-paying rolls offered.
Sure it is about money. But that doesn't void the sexism. Just the fact that it is the opinion that people believe that "women can't lead action movies", is sexist and perpetuates that notion in a multibillion dollar industry. I like to point everyone to exibit A: Ellen Ripley in 'Alien' and 'Aliens', particularly Aliens. Ripley pretty much pwned every dude in that movie. If I think about it, Ripley is probably one of my favorite sci-fi action stars. People are just closed-minded (myself included), and we forget that just because it is the status quo doesn't mean it isn't still sexist.
And props to Winslet for being the lowest paid but getting an Oscar.
i hate to say it, but most of these women make AWFUL movies. it's just the stupid ass PUBLIC that continues to see the tripe they are in. if people would stop going to every cliche romantic comedy, then no one would make them and peerhaps these women could stretch their talented legs and do some films that are worth a damn.
perhaps then they would make more money like the men in hollywood do.
/fixed.
i was just wondering the same things as some other people are: is it really sexist? to me it seems like the person who brings in the most money is simply getting paid more.
like with the $183 vs $393 million figure, it's obvious that those male actors film's made significantly more money that their female counterparts. i'm not saying you're wrong, i'm just wondering how this is a sexist situation?
personally, i'd love to see a higher female presence behind the camera in hollywood. bigelow's 'hurt locker' is one of the best action films i've ever seen. and i know there is no way she makes as much money as a carnahan or neveldine/taylor.
you know, the more i write this post, the more i edit it, cuz i keep thinking of different scenarios. gonna have to ponder this topic - good article.
resident evil movies
machine girl
thelma and louise
tomb raider movies
carrie
domino
panic room
silence of the lambs
that's all i can think of on the fly....
I have to say that Jodie Foster is without a doubt my favourite actress for resisting that urge and making movies I enjoy equally with her as the lead role, instead of a male character. And she does it without becoming Legally Blonde or some such.
As a female movie lead, you have to have at least 2-3 movies that YOU open and that do great Box Office to command the $20+M payday. I think that's a tough one to do and Julie Roberts was the most notable last female to do it.
The big payday isn't really about them as an actor, it's about them as a Star.
kill bill - (indie?)
hilary swank films- ie; the reaping & million dollar baby
kate winslet films- ie; little children (indie?)
jody foster films- ie; flightplan
so rather than list out all their films, i put these women's names down, because i believe when you hear their names, you're usually getting a good film (foster gets a pass on 'the brave one'). but here again, there's a fine line between what makes a film indie, because you're right: outside of rom-com's & indies, women don't get the same roles.
i thought about this all f-ing day! what does it say about hollywood when this is all we can come up with?
i think she should fire the fuck out of whoever guided her script picking process. i would have loved to see her build a career like winslet has, or blanchette or jody foster, or swank.
these articles keep getting more and more comical.
as long as this is not a serious article then all is well...
caliber of movie + skill at your craft will get you paid, no matter who you are, again this is 2009, not the 1800s.
if it doesnt work out that way, find a new agent. Perhaps the problem is that women do not demand enough for their work, if they are actually worth the premium
No. It couldn't. Check out the analysis here: http://www.btchflcks.com/2009/07/pay-discrimina...
It completly leaves out the life time gross of each actor/actress. Do you have any idea how much money harrison movies have made? Star wars? indiana jones? His jack ryan movies?.And you want to compare him to angelina jolie which mas made like 2 high grossing movies?. Dont make me laugh.
The man is an institution, he is funny has great on screen presence and can also believable play the action star, he deserves to be payed that much.
Sadness.
