Very good interview. I did my personal film presentation in film class on Aronofsky, which involved pulling a whole load of interviews out of the BFI library archives and searching the web for ages, and every interview was great. It's rare for a director to really open up as much as he does, with all the little details and all the secrets laid out on the table. It won't be long until he'll be as big as Fincher and Nolan. Good luck Darren.

What a cool fucking bastard. I love this guy, when he speaks to you it's like you've been his friend for years. Very comfortable in his own skin and with others.

    “bitches, leave!” indeed.

What a cool guy, reminds me of other director's like Raimi, who are so easy going you can talk to about anything.

My excitement meter for ROBOCOP just dipped from "can't wait" to "don't bother". When ROBOCOP was rumored as a direct sequel to Verhoven's movie, set at a time when Robocop is obsolete, I was enthused. But another "re-imagining" of a science fiction classic? I'm only curious to see the Aronofsky version of what ROBOCOP is, but since as a tentpole movie we know it will be PG-13, it will either be a neutered remake or a pointless update.

Great interview. Aronofsky should write should some books.

Great interview. Aronofsky should be a guest on the slashfilmcast, I'd love to hear what he's been watching.

FYI, I think it's a mistake to discard a great deal of what Verhoeven did. That was the brilliance of Robocop. There some properties where the viewpoint of the original is very hard to separate from why it succeeded.

That's not to say Aronofsky's Robocop won't be very interesting. I'm just not sure what the point is. You're trading on the popularity of the original but giving the audience something completely different.

Of course, you could say that about Batman Begins... but I dunno. I'm not sure Robocop is quite as sturdy a property as Batman or other examples to survive that transition.

I do hope I am wrong.

Peter: Great interview! It's a delight to read a conversation like this between a well prepared and intrested interviewer and one of our greatest directors. Keep up the good work!

I still excited for more of Aronofsky's RoboCop! Looks like he's a really special director who could reimagine the history best than any other these days.

I think that altought Verhoeven made a great masterpiece who im 100% fan, our times changed, and there's big themes comming up, just like Darren said - the cyborgfication of the human being.

Back in 1987 when RoboCop was introduced to the world, there was no Internet or popular technologies, so theres a great new space to work with the screenplays.

Thanks for the Slashfilm for the incredible interview, keep us posted, you guys are great!

Darren came to Belgium two years ago, for the premiere of "The Fountain". He came to the stage for about 10 minutes and seemed like a really cool dude. This interview just confirms this

Can't wait to see The Wrestler!
