I know I'm only a few months late on all this . . . But saw the film last night, and I was in awe. I knew nothing about it, just wanted to kill some time. I think this is how the film should be watched.
In essence it could, or should, be a cr_p film. Plenty of references from similar films, which have been made and remade many times over the last 50 or so years.
But the handicam perspective has been really well done, it didn't pioneer this but it's definitely nailed it. The acting is 1st class, good delivery from pretty much unknown cast. Script is believable throughout, even when it shouldn't be. I love the fact the man who catalogues the whole event (mostly) is thick as s*it, it just makes it more believable, and not just because he's American . . . ;)
Just take this film on face value.

Its Not Godzilla, and Not Voltron, Its a new idea entirely, I work for the Man.. (JJ) This is all i am permitted to say..without getting arrested, and loosing my job..Just to let all of you know its sick..., and will be one of the best pics ever..the special effects are so life-like its real.

Clover Field is actaully an interesting name,considering its past.During world war II ,the current airport(Santa monica airport?) was camoflauged so that the military base and factories located there would not be visible from the air. Symbolic name for a film with more secrecy than there really should be.

A thought, maybe the monster is invisible or blends with its surroundings(gecko like)? I'm thinking it must look inanimate,like a rock,coral.
What do i know...

Okay,I searched for the hints from the Slusho site,hammer,got Hammer Film Productions,in 1966 they made 6 films,two of dinosuars.Blue oven mitt,came up with Orca Silicon Oven Mittt,withstands high temperatures,and Cheese which means kitsch,or thing.,maybe I am getting close. Sure hope it isn't a whale.

It's not a Godzilla movie. JJ said it wont be a Godzilla movie and in a interview he said that we need (USA) our own monster.

So, yes it is a monster movie and if you guys look at the poster you can see like a path or something in the water coming from the Liberty and going to the city. Maybe this monster is coming from the water (anphibian)

The key words being, NOT FROM MOVIE.

And, the guy running says, "It's alive; it's huge!" HE DOES NOT SAY IT'S A LION. Anyone who believes a giant lion would work in this kind of movie is kidding themselves, hoping for something it's not.

In the theatre', I thought it may be a new Godzilla movie, hopefully done right this time, or even a remake of Gorgo or something of the like, but I really hope this is something new, at least done in the same caliber as Transformers, if not better.

Folks, this is pretty sad. Paramount does not own rights to either Godzilla OR Voltron, and also J.J. has gone out and said it is original. Who cares about ONE line in the TRAILER, I personally heard alive, but honestly I doubt it will ever matter. So instead of going in circles saying things that have no base in fact, let's discuss the wierd pic of the SoL's head at the top of the page. It looks wierd, but I'm not sure if it's from the movie.

At the very beginning of trailer i was looking at banners and furniture items while the party was going on. You will for a brief second (so you you may have to play with the trailer. ).see a drawing on white paper with a cartoon face with like tentacles. this face is identical to the cthulu picture on wikepedia when looking up HP lovecraft. I really will leave the game puzzles to the rest of you. Good Luck

I seriously doubt he said "its alive" why would he need to tell the other people that first? If i saw it i would say something a little more descriptive besides "its alive"... and if i looked like a lion i would say "its a lion".. and if it was godzilla... i would doubt he would say "its alive" cause he would already know what godzilla looks like cause new york was already attacked by him... so say that he says "its a lion" but thats just me..

The Host was Korean, not Japanese to the brothers up there.

It's not Godzilla, the rights were not sold. I doubt it's Voltron, but who knows...the guy says "Alive" either way.

Could be Cthulu, maybe.

Might be The Host remake, but who knows.

Maybe Leviathan (not Final Fantasy Leviathan for all you geniuses out there. The biblical Leviathan. Look it up.)

Fact is, nobody knows for sure, heh. I hope that a 30 million dollar budget can pull off something awesome though...it's not much to work with.

I too think the trailer is possibly another Godzilla movie. I can't be a Lost movie as Lost has 1 more season left before they make the movie and the final season of Lost will not be finished by the time this monster movie is out. I vote Godzilla! Or even better, the doors of Hell opened and let loose a creature in New York and only the half-devil, half Human demon slayer Dante(Devil May Cry) can save New York!!!

It's not Godzilla because the rights are retired until the year 2013. That would've been awesome though. Here's my theory, if you listen to the ethan haas audio, there's a part where he talks about "...we did this to ourselves..." and so forth bascially putting the events that are happening on the shoulders of mankind. Perhaps a movie about the rapture? If not, Voltron works for me :) or even Parasite Eve.

sooo i watched the trailer frame by frame... couple of nice tid bits that may mean nothing, or may be something.
1. When they're on the roof and a rock explodes, it reveals some writing on the wall next to the doorway, it says "2004 ACE"

2. There is a giant sign right where the SOL head hits before it ricochets off, it says 401 Broadway. So at least you know where it takes place... google 401 Broadway, NY if you want to see a map.

Just more fun info... gettin a kick outta this.
