/Film: Repo Man Sequel Starts Filming Next Month

  • Alex Cox · 1 year ago
Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday was the sequal to REPO MAN.
REPO CHICK is an entirely new movie.
I promise not to include mainstream MTV music, guys. I don't have a telly so that won't be difficult.
What about Danbert NoBacon, Ceza and Kid Carpet? Are they acceptable? I hope so but will await instructions.
And yes, sep, f*n awesum it will be.

I love Repo Man, but PLEASE GOD DON'T RUIN THIS FOR ME. Hopefully David Lynch will work his magic.

The financial crisis... doesn't sound exciting.
  • Ejiehi · 1 year ago
Whats gonna suck in this is the music. The original is a great movie with an amazing soundtrack. This movies music is very likely going to be garbage.
  • Ed Robins · 1 year ago
Did Cox write this new film? I ask because a comic was recently released from a sequel script he wrote years ago: http://www.waldoshawaiianholiday.com/

Haven't read it, but it's billed as "the official sequel to Repo Man". Sounds like this new film follows an entirely different (unless Otto gets a sex change or an apprentice - not ruling either out).
  • Ed Robins · 1 year ago
Meant to say entirely different character. You get the gist.

The new film sounds more along the lines of Repo than the original. But if Cox is involved, I'll surely give it a shot.
  • Anrkist · 1 year ago
I'd have to agree. I don't even want to imagine what MTV music they may subject me to.
  • coyotesqrl · 1 year ago
But what about "Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday"? That's already the sequel to Repo Man.

Granted, it's a comic and not a movie, but still.
  • TheGuyInThePJs · 1 year ago
Horrible Idea. I love the original film and it needs no sequel/remake.
  • Guest · 1 year ago
I am going to imagine this does not exist.

    Hopefully, others will join.
  • Jonny · 1 year ago
I blame society forth is remake
  • Ghost · 1 year ago
It would have to be new unless Otto came back from "space" or wherever he took off too right?
  • Mikey M · 1 year ago
Funny, I was just recommending this to a coworker who wasn't even alive when this came out.
    Time flys.
  • _Freddie · 1 year ago
I guess the silver lining on the current depression is that David Lynch is going to produce Repo Girl /eyes rolling
  • J Frank Parnell · 1 year ago
It could be cool if Emilio reprises his role as Otto. I will withhold judgement on this project for the time being.

Let's go eat Sushi and not pay for it!
  • alex cutter · 1 year ago
Well, um, MTV existed when REPO MAN came out, and they didn't feel the need to use that type of music then -- so why would they now?

And why would you even think that any Cox/Lynch production would use uninteresting music?
  • Brandon Sideleau · 1 year ago
No...this doesn't need to be done. The original was hilarious and inventive (despite it's limitations) and had one of the best soundtracks of all time. Since 1984 hardcore punk is no longer what it was (there are still great bands, but they probably wont be featured here) I cannot imagine what tripe they might attempt to shove down our throats here. HOPEFULLY David Lynch has hefty involvement.......I cannot see him getting behind something mainstream and boring.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
Sequels made 20 years after the original always are smashing successes and do the classics justic. Oh, wait....or they are just HollyWood trying to cash in on something when they have run out of ideas. It's can't be Repo Man's sequel without a good tie in. And if they loosely do some crap where they say the "Repo Chick" is a relative or something dumb like that, I'll officially stop watching all movies.
  • sep · 1 year ago
    cant wait.....f*n awsesum
  • alex cutter=ponce · 1 year ago
Repo Man came out in 1984, Talking Heads where on MTV in 1984 Alex Cox wanted to use "Burning Down the House" for a portion of the film. He didn't have the money to and so it stayed out of the film.
This invalidate your point about feeling the need to use MTV/Popular songs. Don't believe me watch the doc that comes with the DVD. Now in 1984 there where still popular songs that where good, this is not the case today. Secondly you talk of these men as gods, they are far from it all directors need money, all directors make bad films.

Wow, I wonder how it will add up to the initial movie. Gonna be hard to top!

Ahhh ya entiendo!!! so this is why the writer pulled the deal from a group of guys, who were making it on a shoestring / no budget a couple of years ago when it was 3/4 the way through to completion and the guys put their heart and souls and every penny they had into it! This is not the first sequel, haha!

It has been interesteing to read the comments left so far about this new film Repo Chick. All we can do is wait and see what happens. I myself love the film Repo Man and several years ago I started www.repomanfilm.comto show it. Stop by and let me know what you think.

Like it or not, Repo Chick has completed principal photography. The lead is actress, Jaclyn Jonet, who was the female lead in "Searchers 2.0", which is also written and directed by Repo Man director, Alex Cox. Many cast members from Alex Cox's other films, Repo Man, Sid & Nancy, Straight to Hell, Walker, Death and the Compass, The Winner, Revenger's Tragedy, El Patrullero and Searchers 2.0, are in Repo Chick.

Some of the cast members are Del Zamora, Miguel Sandoval, Robert Beltran, Chloe Webb, Karen Black, Tracy Walter, Tom Finnegan, Eddie Velez, Zander Schloss, amongst many others.

And for your information, that is the real Alex Cox, listed above, replying to your worried comments on the music. How do I know? I am one of the actors who has worked with him on 9 of his movies. Artnam is my online name to promote the movie. Who am I? Hint: One of my lines from Repo Man; "Old, we paid it off! You see, this is our favorite car."

So, if you have some real suggestions to the music, tell him. Reply to his comment above. He might take your suggestion. Why not, is what I say. Give it a chance, before you condemn it.

Nice. So you're one of the "Goddamn-dipshit-Rodriguez-gypsy-dildo-punks"

Music wise, you should check out the band HIT & RUN for the soundtrack. myspace.com/hitrundallas

Can't wait. Hope Searchers 2.0 makes it to DVD soon. As for the music, Stereo Total, Paavoharju, Fiery Furnaces, Aavikko and Nathaniel Mayer in addition to the above. And hey, Iggy is still indie-friendly. Good luck, the new book is fantastic.
  • Mike · 10 months ago
Nah, David Lynch always has good music.
  • Del Zamora · 9 months ago
I have an original Repo Man poster that I will be listing on E bay after Alex Cox signs it. I have been in 9 of his movies. He gave me my big break in Repo Man.
  • Agent Ecstavesz · 9 months ago
weird, the repo chick imdb page disappeared the day before yesterday.
  • py mortischer · 9 months ago
it was probably canned in postproduction once they realized how bad it was.
  • Artnam · 9 months ago
    No dopey,

It was listed prematurely without the proper order of credits. Someone from the production (more than likely an actor), jumped the gun, as the cast listings were out of order and the lead actress' name was not even included. There are contractual obligations for the production, to have the actors listed in a specific order. Since the movie is in post production, they will wait to list the movie. More than likely, the final cast and crew list will be listed on imdb within the next two months. As to the movie sucking, it has already been invited to this year's Venice Film Festival in Italy. Give it a chance kiddies, or else you'll be stuck watching movies with commercial products placed every minute. If you do not support indie cinema, it will die. Remember, Slum Dog Millionaire was an indie movie.

thanks Artnam, I know from being a disillusioned moderator at a certain music database that information submitted by every joe and jane on the planet can be a very dicey proposition (indie musos and label owners are among the worst, lol).

anyways I'll be extremely interested to see what Phil Tippett and Alex Cox come up with in the post production.
  • BGlooney · 8 months ago
I will not watch until I hear reviews. I'm racking my brain to imagine how it could NOT suck. David Lynch may be the answer. I hope Harry Dean Stanton makes a cameo, at least.

Lots of people here saying 'please don't ruin the first movie!' and such, I don't see how seeing as though this isn't a remake. The fact that is still in the hands of Alex Cox has got to be a great thing.. I can't wait for this, Repo Man is one of my favourite films, this will undoubtedly be a gem in it's own right!
  • econobiker · 6 months ago
So how is this film going to account for the new GPS systems that disable cars if the owner doesn't pay etc.

    I forsee epic fail...
  • Pablo Picasso · 5 months ago
This is a film I saw when I was about 8 years old, and fell totally in love with, for reasons I didn't even really understand. I think it was just the total randomness and rebelliousness of it. I've re-watched it dozens of times over the years, catching on to more of the humor and cultural references as I got older and never growing tired of it. It's the movie that keeps on giving.
I wouldn't think a sequel were really possible. Some co-workers just played the Repo Man trailer back-to-back with the Ghostbusters trailer on youtube (same year). It made it clear how totally un-marketable Repo Man was, which was one of the brilliant things about it.
I would take a world with no ironic Quentin Tarantino remake bullshit, and more films like Repo Man, any day. Brilliant cast (God love Harry Dean), classic dialogue - fucking cinematic lightning in a bottle.

The imdb listing for REPO CHICK is up. REPO CHICK has been officially accepted to this year's Venice Film Festival in Venice, Italy, where it will have its World Premiere on September 8th @ 8 p.m. Venice time. REPO CHICK may make its American Premiere at this year's AFI Fest in Hollywood in late September, early October. To see who is in the movie, take a look at REPO CHICK on imdb.com.

Judging by the comic book feel it could work. The thing about Repo Man was that every single character was cast and acted soooo spot on that it would like trying to get lightning to strike the same spot twice. And you have to use Iggy Pop and The Plugz again.
