It's a TRAVESTY that a couple hacks are going to piss on these classics by creating dumbed down remakes. Jesus. Who do they think they are?
  • GregoryV · 1 year ago
If Martin Campbell is directing The Birds, I'll be looking to it. I don't care for Elm St., and for Rosemary's Baby... why ruin a Roman Polanski classic?

They're going to fuck these movies up royally.
  • james ford · 1 year ago
adam, while agree with you about whether you should vs whether you could arguments on remakes, i can't throw welsey strick under the bus. the guy did write TRUE BELIEVER, CAPE FEAR and the under-appreciated ARACHNOPHOBIA.

we can play that game and i can throw campbell under the bus with BEYOND BORDERS, LEGEND OF ZORRO and VERTICAL LIMIT.

*Attention Hollywood* I need a job. If your insistent on rehashing and subsequently raping my childhood then you might as well pay me. Jeezus. Don't you people have any original ideas? What's next Sleep-away Camp?

I think remaking The Birds has a lot of possibilities. Casting Naomi Watts certainly is a good start!

There is no more original Ideas, I hate to say this, maybe there should be a reality show to find new scripts. it us just sad, LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE.

Hollywood is truly out of ideas.

This is everything that's wrong with Hollywood today. Are there no original ideas left? I doubt it. The real issue is that the studios are no longer run my movie people, but by numbers-crunching numbskulls without an ounce of artistic sense between them, so they suck at the teats of those who came before. Shame on them for ruining what was once the true American art form.

O Please leave ROSEMARY'S BABY alone!!!!! It's just as gripping as it ever was; I bought a copy on DVD early this year and watched again after having not seen it since the early 80s.

The suspense doesn't need to be brought into our time and updated; Rosemary's paranoia does not require cellphones and internet for an audience to identify with it. And a formula remake will almost assuredly destroy the wit of Ira Levin's source material, which is part of the reason Polanski's tremendously faithful rendering of the novel works so beautifully.

The studio would be better served by a highly-publicized [digitally-restored?] re-release....

Grr. Fuck Platinum Dunes and their remakes of the classics.

The only one I might be OK with is rebooting Nightmare on Elm Street, but right now I'm not too sure if they can do anything good.

Naomi Watts in The Birds will have me in the cinema to see it... Elm Street and Rosemary's Baby have no show.

God!!! How can thfey remake Rosemary's Baby? No special effects can improve on the original. Diferent actors can't improve on it. Why?
    * Oh... so we can see the baby at the end.
    No thanks!
  • Alberto · 1 year ago
Didn't Campbell also direct Legend of Zorro? I do not trust him THAT MUCH, so we'll have to see.
  • Captain Awesome · 1 year ago
    Nicko,

I'll tell you how they can improve on Rosemary's Baby. CG "jaw-stretching" like in The Mummy and I Am Legend. That was scary right?...right?

Are there really no original scripts left in LA? Geez, this is just getting...stupid.

I implore everyone and anyone to skip all these remakes. Remakes, as a general rule, are idiotic, but I occasionally enjoy them when they bring something NEW to the franchise. Come to think of it the only remake that I can ever remember being any good was "Dawn of the Dead"- I'm probably going to get a lot of shit for saying this but I actually like it a lot more than the Romero original. Which is why I was so disappointed with "300" and nervous about "Watchmen." But that's a discussion for another time... as to why Hollywood keeps making remakes- it's exactly what everyone above has already said. Just like with the rest of the nation, the film industry has been consumed by ravenous, and dare I say it, evil capitalism. Yes, it's run by number crunchers. But why do they keep making garbage? Because people keep seeing garbage. The only way remakes will disappear is if idiots stop going to see them. With "Rosemary's Baby" I hope this may happen. I mean, where's the market for that movie? People who've seen the original won't be interested, and people who haven't will rather go see "Spiderman 4" or some other mindless sequel. So let's just pray that that travesty starts the downfall of the remake.

I had faith for the Birds, but then I saw Michael Bay was directing it.

This is James Gilks (owner of SerialKillerCalendar.com). Let me start by saying that I love Robert Englund. He is a talented actor and a treasure to the horror industry. That said, I really hope that he is not cast as Freddy in the new Nightmare on Elm St remake. I understand that this is practically blasphemy in the horror fan community. It is tantamount to saying that Hellraiser 1 was slow and poorly made (which it is but thats another story). The truth is that Freddy Kruger has the potential to be one of the most terrifying and truly lasting characters in horror movie history. He is a serial killer pedophile with knifes for fingers that can get to you at your most vulnerable (when your sleeping). This is pure nightmare fuel (no pun intended) and put in the right hands, this franchise could be reborn as something extremely horrific that will stand the test of time. Now, Robert Englund brings a great humor to the role and helps to dull the edge of the atrocities on the screen. I love this and the original Nightmare on Elm St series is one of my favorites. But is that really what we want? Do we truly need the horror and sheer disturbingness of this character desensitized by one liners and cheep visual gags. I honestly don’t think we do. I am hoping for a gritty, in your face realism that paints Freddy as the monster he really is. I think we would be far more impacted if the film makers drew their inspiration from real life pedophile serial killers such as Albert Fish, Peter Kurten or Carl Panzram. What we need now, in these cold and uncaring times, is a Freddy Kruger that doesn’t pull any punches. We need truly dark and devious creature who can transform our once terrifying bogyman in to something that will really give us nightmares. And, unfortunately, I just don’t think Robert Englund (who I mean no offense to) can bring us this.

Well, that’s just the opinion of someone who runs a company devoted to selling serial killer merchandise so you can take it or leave it. I hope you can all stop by SerialKillerCalendar.com to pick up some morbid merch (including the new Serial Killer Magazine, Serial Killer Trading Cards and Serial Killer Action Figures. I know, its a shameless display of self promotion but really, I have to justify reading up on Batman Movies while I am supposed to be working somehow.
