I don't think she sees this as a potential return to glory per se. She's been obsessed with Heathers herself, from day one, and simply wants the sequel for that reason.

"...Ryder evidently holds it as her lifeline back to some sort of spotlight"??? I think her key, albiet brief, role in one of 2009's biggest summer blockbusters (see: Stark Trek) has her back in, at least "some sort" of spotlight. Not ALL dreams are self-serving, guys.
