/Filmcast Ep. 81 - Avatar (GUEST: Dan Trachtenberg from the Totally Rad Show)
...
Twilight: There's an erect phallace in our logo.
I, personally am above the young teenage years (18)
I loved it.
You better get your facts straight before you write something like this. Have you ever heard of Twilight Moms?
And this movie/book is nothing like the movie "The Covenant"! It has nothing in common with it!
on a better note, I am glad that Twilight is gaining a lot more attention.
lately, ive been kristen stewart so im looking forward to this.
Anyways, the fandom for this movie is HUGE. I volunteer for school community hours at a library and I have at least one person a day coming in to ask for that book.
The wait list is incredible for the whole series.
The books are about the story, not necessarily because it is written with the finest English (which it isn't). The novel does take you away and literally makes you feel as if vampires (but not the fake Buffy ones) are real.
That being said she hates the cast and hates that it is going to be turned into a movie.
Also, I'm 27 and love the books so....
I never read any of the HP books but knew about the movies and the books before while the movie was filiming... I have never heard of the movie or books for twilight, even when they showed the reel I had no idea what it was... it may have a lot of fans, but know where near the awareness of HP
First of all I am 52 and proud to be a TwilightMOM. There are thousands of registered TwilightMOMs and who knows how many regular guests from all over the world.
Secondly, I've been introducing Twilight to friends, both men and women, who encompass all age groups including my 92 year old great uncle. Those that have read it invariably like it and some LOVE it.
Also, to some of those who have posted comments here, you might want to actually read the books before judging them. The werewolves are not the bad guys and the story is quite compelling.
Second, most fans hate it when people compare Twilight to Harry Potter. The only thing they have in common is that they're both successful.
So, just don't be judgmental. It gets everyone mad. That's all.
Interestingly enough, it almost didn't get made, according to the author's website.
b. This is NOTHING like the Covenant (be it a good movie). Its like nothing ever put on TV or the Movies. If you want to get the real feel for it, READ IT.
Twilight has been around now for about 3 years and the fan base is steadily growing. Yet it is nothing like Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a fantasy book in every sense of the word. Twilight is essentially a love story that has supernatural elements. Many people who hate Harry Potter love twilight and as such many Harry Potter fans can't stand twilight.
To compare these two books is like comparing milk and coke. Yes they are both drinks that people drink but the similarities stop there.
But, thankyou for taking the time to right this article because any bit of twilight news is always good news! Especially for our fanatic fan base!
Yes, the books are written for a Young Adult audience. But the age range of it's fans falls from preteen to grandparent. Yes, it's fan following is led mostly by females, but there are also many guys who have read, and enjoyed, the series. (If you are a guy, I highly recommend reading it. Trust me, we Twilight fans go a bit crazy when we meet or hear about guys that have read the books. =D )
Second, If you were to check out the board for Twilight on the IMDB website, you would realize just how popular the books are. The twilight board is the only one I post on. And it moves faster than any other board on IMDB that I am aware of (except for perhaps The Dark Knight board). There have been several occasions, where threads on the third page had been posted on only minutes before.
With that many users constantly on the Twilight page of IMDB, the question shouldn't be 'why IS it the 14th most popular' but 'why is it ONLY the 14th'.
Now, most of the actors in this film are relatively unknown. As the cast information was released, the fans wanted to find out as much as possible about each one. Hence, the high number of searches.
As for why Taylor Lautner seems to be outshining the rest of the cast in search numbers, is for two reasons. A) He is the most recently cast actor, and B) his casting is the most controversial among fans.
Many people were terribly upset to hear that Taylor would be playing the role of one of the more important characters. And his being cast has set off a seemingly infinite amount of heated debates and vulgar arguments.
Actually, it's funny that you would mention The Covenant, since so many fans had their hearts set on Steven Straight in the role of Jacob Black.
Speaking of The Covenant, had I read this before seeing the video that was released at ComicCon, I would vehemently disagree with you. Based solely on my knowledge of the book, there is no comparison between the two. However, after watching the MTV released video, I can see where you would find the connection in the fight/action scenes. But the rest of the film, I can assure you, will in no way remind you of The Covenant.
Another highly debated topic, is whether or not the books and film will be the next Harry Potter. In the sense of popularity and overwhelming fandom... yes, I believe it will be, if it isn't already. However, I would not be able to compare the plot or style of two books.
Both are written for the young adult genre, but have found fans well outside this range. Both are fantasy, revolving around mythical creatures. Both are immensely popular.
The similarities end there.
you ask if "twilight" will be the next "Harry Potter"? in my oppinion it allready is!!! there are millions of fans all over the world and they can't wait for the movie!! so this is definetly bigger than Harry Potter!!!
Both are great in their own perspective (though based on personal bias I like harry potter better)
But am I the only one behind on the casting news, that Taylor Lautner was cast as Jacob Black?!?
FREAKING SHARK BOY IS JACOB BLACK?
REALLY???!!!
Yes, I am a teenage girl and in love with the books. And I cannot wait until the movie-- it even comes out December 12th which is my birthday. But the Twilight series is in no way, shape, or form only for 'teenage girls'. I have more than one guy friend who is just as adoring *ahem, obsessive* of Twilight as I am. And I am very much aware of TwilightMOMS, and I'm sure that there are many, ahem, TwilightDADS out there as well. And I think that this movie will do phenomenally, even if some of the cast is not what people hoped. Sure, Robert Pattinson can't perfectly portray Edward-- but what human could? I think that the movie very well could equal, if not top, the HP movies. The Twilight books have already gone above and beyond the HP books on the bestsellers list; who says the movie won't do the same?
Ok, my little *ahem, incredibly long* rant is done. =]
you are so wrong about that, there are more people who read the serie of Stephenie meyer not only teenage girls.
That is just stupid you know.
people over the 25 read twilight and the other books.
I really do not know what information you got on this, but i'll that part is incorrect.
It's unwise to make articles about a VERY popular book that have a note of doubt in it because some "Twilighters" are easy-tempered.
Now let me point out your mistakes so you may fix it in the near future.
1. Not only for "teenagers", as I said before my sister reads them and she is 21. Also there is a site, TwilightMoms.com, which is getting mentioned a lot and they aren't teenagers, I presume.
2. The Covenant? I haven't even seen this so I WON'T make assumption.
3. Some people may or may not like this book being compared to Harry Potter. This being said, I don't really care. Fact: They are both very popular books. Fact: They are books being made into movies.
Fact: Who beat Harry Potter on the best seller list?
But anyway. Thanks for more attention to Twilight! We love it all! :]
*Wince*...Another ill-informed columnist. This is starting to get extremely annoying now. Is it really that difficult to do some research on a topic before it is published for the world to see? If it was my job to research and write an article, you can bet your mom that I would make sure I got it right. It would be my reputation on the line! That is particularity maddening because there are loads or resources at your disposal online, or an even BETTER resource in reading the book itself! Many of the previous comments cover what I did not like about this article, but here is my main issue: Please do not treat this book like it is only for tweeners and children. Every time you do, you insult the intelligence of the MANY adult fans. I have posted this before in forums as a member of the Twilight Moms, but anytime an article or interview comes out with this tone, it makes me feel like I have been excited and obsessive over something comparable to ‘The Cat in the Hat.’
-nikkchikk
*puts her hand up* Okie dokie, it seems like the fanatical legions have come out in force. I want to say a few things in defense of this article.
a) This is a movie blog, not a magazine. That means that a piece of movie news comes out and then it is stated, sometimes with an opinion, sometimes not. What needs to be remembered here is that this is NOT a BOOK blog. It is a MOVIE blog. The author was not trying to do a detailed article on the freaking novels. This blog post is about how a movie that, obviously, is getting little regular press is becoming a phenomenon based souly on the preexisting fanbase.
b) This article is written based on the MOVIE version of Twilight, not the written version. Judging from the material avail liable on the movie, it does look a lot like the Covenant, which was not a good movie. The cast consists of a bunch of pretty boys, okay? With super powers. That means it will be compared to other movies that feature pretty boy casts. Until the movie actually comes out and proves these comparisons wrong that's what people are going to say.
c) STOP SAYING THE DUDE NEEDS TO READ THE BOOKS BEFORE WRITING A BLOG POST ON IT. That's just stupid, okay? This is the first time I've even seen mention of this movie on a prominent movie blog, and I read a few. That means that this article is actually positive press. It says nothing wrong about the movie and that it is targeted towards teenage girls. Guess what? IT IS TARGETED TOWARDS TEENAGE GIRLS. That doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it, but like it or not that's the target audience. Thus the casting. If you continue to relentlessly flame every movie blogger that makes this comparison they will not cover it. No positive PR means the movie will tank even more then it allready is probably going to do.
This website is about movies. Indian Jones, Terminator, The Hulk. Those are the other blog entries right now. Twilight may be the best damn book on the planet, but what we care about here is the movie. In comparison to the movies I just mentioned, how do you think it will do? From what I've seen this thing is going the way of Eragon so perhaps you should more careful of who you hate on, k?
I, personaly am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series...but seriously, they don't even compare to Twilight!
The Twilight series are the best books I've ever read and i'm completely obsessed. The cast for the movie is perfect and I can't wait!!
a.) The movie has garnered much press actually. If you decide to take a gander at any one of the webistes dedicated to the movie/books you will find many blog and mainstream media articles based on it. You've had Entertainment Tonight, Associated Press, MTV, ETalk (Canada), The Movie-Fanatic, Seventeen, amongst others report so I believe your comment is a bit inaccurate.
b.) So according to your logic then movies such as Spiderman, Superman, Batman, the Justice League, etc are all interchangeable since it's about a hot guy in tights saving the world, right? I highly doubt anyone would lump them all so why now with Twilight? Just because it deals with Vampires doesn't mean it should be lumped together with the Covenant.
c.) The movie won't tank. Far from it. While I can understand that those who aren't involved in the fandom might assume it's just a small group of fanatical teenage girls with no time on their hands but to post comments on Twilight related topics, that's not the case. People will see this movie not once, not twice, but at least three times because they love the story that much.
It'll be interesting to see how attitudes changes once the Twilight phenomenon take off after the first installment. Those that wondered who Taylor Latuner was will be taunted for living under a rock.
However, you're lack of knoweldge in the book and judgemental comments makes those already weary of the books turned off. Harry Potter and Twilight have nothing in common so I do not understand why everyone is comparing the two. The more people compare the two, the more people expects Twilight to BE LIKE Harry Potter. It's not ...as it shouldn't be.
Summit actually was the comapny behind Resident Evil Trilogies --I'm sure you know of those movie. Michael Clayton with George Clooney? It's not as small as you make it sound.
As well, like what previous posts stated,Twilight isn't some teen novel. I'm 20 years old and I just finished all 3 books. I'm not going to lie though, when explaining the books it sounds cheezy and absurd, but no amount of explanation will do the books justice. It's a "you-have-to-read-it-to-understand" thing.
But once again, I am estactic you at least know about the movie and book because that means the movie is being marketed well and has garnered curiousity. I am not at all bashing your opinion, just defending the book, hopefully making others aware that the plot is not as cheesy as it sounds.
As for me, I am excited for the movie. I am not expecting it to surpass HP sales but I'm going to enjoy it for what it is and for the wonderful story.
My response to this article was not fake. I mean seriously, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I don't know a good book when I see one. What I said in my previous response was anything but fake. I'm not sure if you've read the books before, but if you had, you would realize how good they are. I'm not saying you have to like it, but geez if you're going to call something bogus at least read the books first.
I think you're probably right. These books won't be around in a hundred years. But the point is is that these books are huge right now. Right now, they're getting a lot of buzz and the movie is gaining a huge following. Does it really matter whether it has staying power for a century or not? No. The thing that matters is that people are enjoying it all right now, and have the right to do so, no matter how you personally view the quality of the books or the films
This is just another lame teen-drama featuring pretty boys and girls from the Myspace/MTV(that's Miscellaneous Television) generation running around and playing with "supernatural forces"...oh, and emotions.
That can be said for the books, too, I'm sure of that as you've all proven your devout devotion to something that must, in your minds, be a "movement" (raiding the comments on slashfilm because of a post on "twilightmoms.com"??? Seriously??) or a "fad".
Speaking of twilightmoms.com - I'm guessing these moms are the same ones that like to dress like their kids and buy them all of the latest "hot" outfits. You know the ones who throw parties for their "little angels" and have myspace accounts and have all of their daughter's friends' numbers on speed dial?
Supporting this film (in it's current state - that is, the state of the movie in the previews on MTV) is simultaneously supporting the downfall of American cinema in general. We've become far too focused on profit and marketability. Skaught was right, I think we he called the book and movie "popcorn books" and "popcorn movies". They come out to sell seats and appease the immature, angsty teenage girls that they're marketed to. And don't give me the "I'm 40 and I love it" argument. See the part on twilightmoms above. See also term: "outlier". The truly unfortunate thing is that, in their blind fan-frenzy, these teenage girls will all go score the movie 10/10 on IMDB and negate any truly critical scores. Not to mention all of the "OMG THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST MOVIE EVAR!!! U HAVE 2 GO SEE IT!" reviews.
Fact is, it just plain looks like a horrible movie based on a book with a highly unoriginal story.
I know I'll get flamed for this post as has anyone who speaks out against it. Can't stop the twilightmom war machine.
First, let's laugh at the columnist. I see you are blissfully unaware of the fandom explosion, but that's fine. I can see where he comes from. I have just recently read all the books and gotten involved in this fan community. I was unaware before as well. I would suggest looking up at least some PRESS on the movie/books before making judgements. Your opinions are valid, but it's hard to make a case for anything you are unaware of.
Second...let me laugh at these comments. Whenever you encounter any entrenched fandom, you'll get the crazies out along with the rationals. Don't let them speak for everyone.
Now...I don't see a similarity between Harry Potter and Twilight in content, plot or characterization. Besides Jacob Black being similar in disposition to Ron Weasley, there is nothing alike about these books. Harry Potter contains mystery, symbolism, alliteration, and difficult twists and turns in both characterization and plot. Twilight is well written fluff. It's an escape. It's what I read when I want to shut my brain off. That doesn't mean it's a bad book. On the contrary, I pore over them. But don't hold it up to a standard it doesn't belong. It's a force. It's a break from my normal intellectual posing. It's teen angst and vampires.
Embrace the fluff! If you are such an intellectual snob that you can't take anything for what it's worth, then you really shouldnt' be reading a damned movie blog.
Finally, the fanbases of Harry Potter and Twilight are VERY similar. I actually would have never read these books if not for all of the Harry Potter people fawning over these books. Harry Potter fans love all books. We did the same thing with The Golden Compass when it got big. We read Austen like a bible. So discovering another piece of enjoyable literature is not far off. Twilight has drawn in those who love fantasy...and we're not ashamed.
Will it be the next Harry Potter? In success only, but not in name, content, plot, style, or anything else.
And maybe you should look up some websites of the cast. They are being very generous and involved with this explosive film, causing the hype to go up exponentially. They are granting interviews with fan websites (Everyone from Stewart to the woman playing Renee), writing blogs (in the case of Mike Welch), and even doing webchats and accepting gifts! These actors are talented and know what they are getting into. And they are creating a huge follow for this film just by being so good to their fans.
Especially look up Kellen Lutz, who plays Emmett. He's got a cult following because of how accomodating he is to the story and the fans.
how can you not get hyped? It's been months, and I think you've missed the boat mister blogger man.
Why all this stuff against TwilightMoms. I'm not a part as I'm 24, unmarried and not a parent, but I LOVE reading their forums. They are mature and respectful for the most part. They are moms and wives first and foremost, but everyone needs a hobby.
I work on political campaigns, does that mean you are going to stereotype my future children based on my hobbies as well.
When I meet the requirements, I'll be happy to join their fan group.
If you were more open minded, I would provide to you some journal articles on Online Communication. I think TYLER J. doesn't really understand how internet fan communities work.
Everyone needs to stop comparing them to HP tho! The two series are completely different and cannot be paired up as one.
They are both amazing books and successful in their own way.
I only have one thing for all you Twilight fans: Eragon :P Fun book, huge cult following of teenage girls, worst movie I have ever seen. Don't judge it until it's been made, okay? Maybe it will be the best damn movie ever, but most likely it won't be. Be happy if it's mediocre at best. Genre movies are in a lot of pain right now and unfortuantely... ah, this is pointless you're not going to listen to me anyways so bleh :P
And for the record, I liked Eragon the book. *shrugs*
And to the very special Psappy:
a) I said that I read a few prominent movie blogs. Those are not blogs, but for the most part entertainment sites/shows. I don't own a TV and I don't care for talking heads. That's why I read independent movie blogs like /film, k? Once again, first time I've seen this.
b) Yes, according to my logic people do clump super hero movies together because they are super hero movies. Some are good, some are bad but they are still part of the same genre. That's what a genre is.
c) See my comments about Eragon. Nothing is set in stone, I'm a young girl and I like hot guys doing supernatural business. That's why I watched the Covenant (which actually has nothing to do with Vampires :P)
I don't really care if everyone will like it or not. I just feel bad for people who don't like it, because its so fun! And they are missing out!
And when did The Hulk become a good movie?
but i wouldn't say that is th next harry potter cause is too difrent
in every single way...
but i think that in a certain way would be
for us that we grew up with harry potter, but now its finished n' i really think that now we need something like that, but with more romance n' all that this word means...!
don't we??
that in this case is twilight..
i just love it
is amazing!
n i can't wait to see the movie
really i think it would be the best movie of th month or even th year not only for teenagers, for all the people that loves romantics-accion-suspense-comedy. movies... lol
Forever yours
Forever twilight
I'm sure it's going to be very popular like Harry Potter, but the two don't really have anything in common.
Uh NO! they are completely different and completely unique unto themselves. It's like comparing apples to oranges (to be cliche) But GO TWILIGHT for smashing HP records! I have also been a huge fan of HP but something new is always good as HP can't rule fiction for ever.
I'm 18 and ADORE these books. I was more then enthralled when I heard the news that Twilight was to become a movie. I then passed on the books to friends who passed them on to parents, cousins, aunt's (not sure about any uncles as of yet) but its true, this is NOT just a teen novel. ALL age groups are currently reading them, AND boys too!!
Also, the COVENANT??? no way! this is nothing like that!!
As for Taylor Lautner, I reckon he has been so largely viewed on IMDB, because he was a crucial character that took forever to cast, so fans were eventually poping in anticipation.
I don't personally like him playing Jacob, but I guess December 13th will finally reveal, along with the rest of the cast, how well they can play the lovely Stephenie Meyer's imagination.
i am a confessed fan and i adore all the books. better than anything i have read. have you ever "eaten" a book? this is like eating a book when i read it.
3 hours straight and i gasped for air while reading.
makes me feel like being in love. stephenie meyer perfectly depicts the feeling in the book. she is also creating a book from the other main character's point of view which is AMAZING. i have read the first chapter from Edward's point of view.
i have created a cult at my school and family which is growing steadily.
(not a cult as such but fans of the book)
no-one that has read the book has disliked it. (including my mum and dad)
so twilight is going strong.
read it.
i like all the casting choices except taylor as jacob. and i have been following the movie progress on Mtv clips.
i only wish the film came out at the same time in australia...
just read twilight. i guarantee you will L-O-V-E it!!
x
ps. taylor lautner is being searched as number 1 because he is a strange choice for the important character he is portraying. im not sure if i will like it and i was curious to see what he is like so i indeed searched him. this is not, i repeat: this is NOT because he is the hottest new young thing to hit movie screens. this is because the fans are curious as to who he is.
Don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, too. I just.... love Twilight more.
2. There is nothing similar between Potter and Twilight other than Rob Pattinson. To compare them is ridiculous.
I'm a fan of both, but let's be realistic. They share a certain level of HYPE right now, but Twilight will not be the next HP. And that's not saying anything against the Twilight Saga. But, the numbers speak for themselves. Worldwide, the TWilight series has sold a little over 5 million copies, and the HP series - 400 MILLION. Deathly Hallows alone sold 11 million in its first 24 hours. That comment about the best sellers list always bugs me, b/c we're talking about DH being knocked off for ONE week when Eclipse was first released and DH had been out for a month. AND I believe that DH took the #1 spot back the very next week. Be realistic Twilighters, NOTHING will top HP for many, many, many years to come b/c HP was such a publishing phenomenon, only topped by maybe the Bible.
With that being said, I do think the Twilight movie has a better chance of being a better adaptation than the HP movies. But, will they make the same amount of money? Doubtful. You're talking about the highest grossing movie franchise ever...
However, I do not think that Twilight in any way shape or form should be compared to Harry Potter. Harry Potter and Twilight have nothing in common other than the fact that they are both books about supernatural things and beings. It is true that Twilight had knocked off Harry Potter in the top seller list, but every book sooner or later falls off the list.
And, as one reader posted above, I get a little angry whenever someone starts comparing the two together. Not to put down the Twilight series (because I love the books!) but they don't have the level of symbolism, foreshadowing, or characterization that Harry Potter has. So, for all those who think that Twilight is the next Harry Potter, please realize that they have virtually nothing in common.
On a less critical note, I can't wait to read the final installment! I really hope everyone gets the happy ending they deserve.
first of all, please do not say that you hate the book or will hate the movie if you have not read the book. I have no problem with peple who have read the book and did not like it. the people I have a problem with are the ones who just assume they will hate it and then make fun of people who like it. if you don't want to read it, don't but don't make fun of us who love the series.
second, do not compare it to harry potter. I love both series and to me they will always be equal. but they are completly different in a lot of ways. it is your own personal opinion which you prefer, so please do not compare, just state your opinions.
thanks,
abbi
an obsessed fan.
As for saying, "Is it the next Harry Potter?" I must object, because Twilight is NOTHING like Harry Potter. How do wizards and vampires compare? They're entirely different and although both are considered Fantasy, they're still mainly in entirely different genres. So how is that they're always compared? You can't compare what's not alike!
I find Twilight an outstanding book. Not only has the story and it's sequels captured many around the world, but like this article says, it even knocked Harry Potter of the #1 bestseller list! I don't know why people bash it or say, "it can never compare to Harry Potter" because it's an wonderful book and you can't just be prejudice against it because of that. I bet some of those who say Harry Potter is better have not even read Twilight.
Also, it's no surprise that Twilight has been looked up so many times because fans have been dying waiting for this movie! We want to see the world we love that is Twilight come to life! However, if this movie kills the book, I bet a lot of fans would be angry. Look at Eragon for example. It got both positive and negative reactions but plenty of my friends who loved the book said the movie was horrible in comparison. I really hope it isn't true for Twilight!
Oh, by the way, yes, I am in fact, a teenage girl. :)
Oh, and Twilight rules!! I cannot wait for the movie to come out!
Harry Potter, or better. I've been reading
this book along with New Moon and Eclipse,
over and over again for sometime now.
I have already read the unedited first chapter
of Midnight Sun and am scheduled ahead of time
to get Breaking Dawn.
I funny thing is, Twilight also is not just
a teenage girl book.
Yes i am a 16 year old girl, but the only
reason i got into this book 2 years ago is
because my personal edward (my boyfriend)
got me into it, after i was with him and
he couldnt take his head out of the book.
So no, it aint for teen girls, it's for the world!
Harry Potter sucks. Twilight rules. x}
Also, many moms love then too, and I have even met some Twilighting grandmas. =) I am only 15, but I assure you that the fanbase spreads into a MUCH wider range of ages.
I am very excited for the upcoming book and movie!
HP and Twilight really shouldn't compare because, like others have said, they're different! But I do think that Twilight will kill HP in the movie box offices just because Harry has had six movies now, and Twilight will be the first.
to EMMANUEL MUNOZ: are we talking about the same Twilight book? because since when was the werewolves the "bad guys" they are fighting with the Cullens who are vampires to defeat another group of bad vampires... and its a shame that your girlfriend can't get past the cast because well the movie looks as if it is going to be AWESOME!
Anyways, thank you.
~Sara age 15
really make generalizations unless they have read it.
just watch, top of the box office on opening week, no doubt.
And there are more fans than just young teenage girls. Do some research next time
But thanks for writing this anyways. Any Twilight related stuff is amazing!
Stephenie Meyer is not the JK Rowling of the United States. Stephenie Meyer is the Stephenie Meyer of the United States.
And, sorry to break it to you, many of the readers of this series are MUCH older than teenagers. I know people in their 50s who love this series. And I know many in their 20s who feel the same way.
Other than that, thank you very much for writing about this movie, the fans of which have their hopes and expectations up very high.
And I really don't think being the most searched makes a person "the biggest star in Hollywood."
i don't think the books even have a right to be compared to one another.they are both different to extremes
and they don't really have anything in common- in my opinion.
except maybe the rabid fan base.
as completely amazing as harry potter was
twilight is much better then harry potter in my opinion.
i think they did such an awesome job with the harry potter movies.
and j.k rowling wrote this amazing phenomenon
and i think the same thing is happing, now,
with twilight.
twilight is going to change the world.
twilight is changing the world.
this book is MASSIVE
people need to start realizing it.
after this movie comes out-
everything is going to be TWILIGHT TWILIGHT TWILIGHT.
i've been following this book series since the first came out,
its just a story that sticks to you.
its already hard enough to wait for the movie as it is,
8 more months of waiting?
my only fear now is dying before i get to watch it.
-Age 15
And by the way, Jasper owns all of them. Im the vampire world, and the wizarding world. Just thought I would let you know this. But yeah.
That is my opinion about the whole "Is Twilight the new Harry Potter" deal.
p.s. I HATE the term Twi-Hards. Whoever came up with that must've been on crack when they made it up.
p.s. again. Who cares if Stephenie Meyer is mormon? What difference does that make? Do people honestly believe that mormons aren't as capapble as other people? Anyways, that's it.
--Lilly
Anyways, I am going to finish my little "rant" and leave it at...Watch out Twi-haters. We have a nasty bark, but an even nastier bite.
Sara age 15
I am a fan and so will you be if you give the book a chance...
Ann
IDK- They got brooms
Twilighter + Twiharder=Fanpire
Edward's #1 spider monkey
And Eclipse did NOT beat out Harry Potter, for crying out loud. It was what, a few weeks after Deathly Hallows had come out? That's a no-brainer; DH was the fastest selling book in HISTORY, selling more books in its first day in the US than Eclipse sold in its entire run. How on earth is that supposed to show Eclipse beating out HP? Everyone got their DH first day, they didn't need to go back three weeks later.
"Oh. And Twilight is not the new Harry Potter. Twilight is for more of an older crowd" Er, seriously? Twilight's fandom consists of teens and young adults (95% female, might I add), and HP's for anyone who can read, and for kids whose parents read the books to them. I know more adult HP fans than younger fans. And both girls AND guys read HP.
And I also hope that the movies are not like the Harry Potter movies- I hope they dont cut out important characters, or delete intirely important scenes...
From what I've seen so far, in clips, I totally trust that the movie is going to be good- close to the book. A lot of the sets are how I imagined them when I read the book- and the chemistry between Bella and Edward looks amazing~
Its such a long time to wait and see!
Cast-wise, Summit has done a good job of selling the actors, cuz at first I was absolutely furious because Patterson looks nothing like my Edward, but I have come to terms ect.
I think we need to get something straight. Many of my friends and and I never even heard about some wizard with his wand until the fourth book was already out, so HP is getting a little too much credit.
And I never NEVER do this. I don't post ever I just read and keep my judgements to myself. Yet, Twilight has inspired me to do this, and I feel it is a good enough book to support.
I also convinced my English teacher to read the book, and while she did say that it was completely devoid of literary basis, it was very plot driven and a great read. And she absolutely loathes HP with a passion as it is, in her words, proof of a miracle that anything that unintelligent could make it so big. I personally think HP is okay, but there you go.
Plus, Harry Potter is just so amazing, to have the great mind of a wizarding world and then back it up with imaginative things that make sense and just throw you in a world of excitement.
Twilight is very different. It pinpoints what most girls want and dream of in a guy. It makes you feel like you want to be Bella & keeps makes you obsessed and wanting more and more.
Both books keep your attention, but you can't compare them or make predictions. Harry Potter has a tough fan base. When I saw the Twilight book at my local library and I read the back I was like, "Vampires? Can you be more original?" But I just started reading it recently and I'm BIG TIME hooked! That's all I think about! I'm excited for The Half-Blood Prince to come out and for Twilight, I don't care who has a bigger opening weekend, I just want to be happy with the end result of the movie. And that's that.
We, the twilight fandom, are very excited this book is getting made into a movie. This story, which we love so dearly (yes, we obsess but it's our lives, so stop judging) is getting translated into another medium - film - and we can't help it that we are all very excited. Interest in this book and movie spreads like wildfire, so like many before me have stated, it is not just a book for teen girls. Though that's were it's popularity seems highest, fans are always offended when it is regarded as just another teenage fad (especially an "American" teenage fad). It might look more like the Covenant or whatever, but this isn't just some movie made for the hell of making a movie; it is the physical interpretation of a beloved story and fans are excited. I write this not to chastise the writer of this ....blog I guess; I write this to simply explain why things are the way they are, concerning Twilight and its film adaptation.
All right, then. If anyone thinks Stephenie Meyer is SUCH a mediocre writer, why not go write your own book that surpasses all other forms of literature? For goodness sake. It's not easy to write a book, especially the Twilight series.
Yes, this is a MOVIE blog, but that's sure not going to stop fans (including me: obsessive) from voicing my thoughts not based on the movie, but the individual comments.
I want to be a writer. Need to, actually. Take my advice: Stephenie Meyer is a very talented writer, as is JK Rowling, or Bradbury, or Bronte, or DR. SEUSS, for that matter. Just because her books are not written in extremely-complex-metaphors-that-require-an-hour-understanding, Old English, or just flawless contemporary, doesn't mean her books are toss aways for rainy days. I've re-read them constantly.
Teenage angst and vampires? Vampires, yes, teenage angst? It depends on the reader. For me, these are magical books in their own way. Stop judging just because she's not imitating Shakespeare.
Okay, sorry. That was just my rant. I feel better now.
Oh and also, all the people yelling at him for saying it's written for the teen audience need to look at the title of the section you buy the book in. It is young adult. Don't jump down people's throat for "insulting your intelligence" when they are the ones with the correct info. Just because they say the book's ARE in fact targetted for teens, doesn't mean they're calling you a douchebag for reading them. All the people who aren't catergorized as the "teen audience"? Yeah, you're the minority.
I like the movie will turn out great because Steph's been on site and she's super excited. I was surprised at first that Taylor was the most searched, but as soon as I turned my brain on (flick!) it made perfect sense. He's the unknown! All those girls (including my mother and all her friends, by the way) are pulling their hair out trying to figure out if this kid's going to do Jacob Black the amazing justice.
Because I absolutely love Jacob.
Sara age 15...
I dont know about you but that tells ME something.
Id like to see someone who has read it and doesnt like it... but...im not sure they exist.
oh, and the guy who plays edward, robert pattinson, is so hot!!! he's perfect for the part!!!!!!!
Well, excuse you. May I ask if you have actually READ any of the books?
Personally, I think you can write a more convincing argument and get people to agree with you if you actually know what it is you're talking about. Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't you find out more before you go and make cynical comments like that?
And about earlier, when it was asked why everyone was suddenly on slashfilm?
Because there's a link on the author's site.
Proof: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight_movie.html
By the way, I love Taylor for Jacob Black. I'm so happy with Summit about the casting of Edward and Jacob that the only thing I ask right now is a Worldwide Premiere date because not all Twilight Fans live in the states. Me, for example. I'm from Mexico. Please worldwide premiere!!!!!! At least bring Twilight the movie to our countries before Christmas!
Also I have to say Harry Potter has been on best-seller lists for almost... 10 years? (?!) Twilight has been there for almost half a year? Don't compare things like that. People this is just insane.... like trying to compare Bill Gates with the creators of Mac and Linux.... Please! Stop doing that! Thanks!
Twilight is not only for teenage girls, or women who have families, it's for everyone who enjoys to read it.
I dont know about you but that tells ME something.
Id like to see someone who has read it and doesnt like it… but…im not sure they exist."
Very valid point. I haven't seen one poster on this thread who has hated the books and read them.
They just really hate the mass hysteria surrounding online fan communities and don't know what to do.
This is the virtual age. We create virtual nations and our identity is formed in avatars and longwinded posts on blogs' comment boards. So what all of those haters out there need to learn is how to deal with this new world in a diplomatic way.
Start by educating yourself before criticizing...or shut up. Otherwise, you might as well eat your own hat for all the validity your opinions are missing out on.
Also: I don't think Peter was making a comparison between the HP and Twilight books as bodies of literature - this isn't a book blog - but rather a commentary on whether Twilight could possibly make the jump from the page to being a successful, fan-supported movie franchise.
I think tha you cant really compare harry pottr and twlight because
they are different stories and have a different strory line- i mean
TWILIGHT is about a girl and a vampire who fall in love- a forbidden one and they go through everything together...
HARRY POTTER is about witches and wizrads and magic... they are
two completly different storys..
however i did personally enjoy the twilight books more!! i couldnt put them down and i actually sarted to cry when i finished them .LOl but i cant wait for teh movie to come out and i hope the movie is a as good as the book!!
Believe me I am a lot older than the YA audience the book is publicized for and if you had taken a day of your precious time and read the book you might of actually found that the fan base is justified. It's pretty obvious from your synopsis that you have no idea what your talking about.
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm not taking that away from you at all but I think you should have read it before you compared it to "The Covenant". I hope that one day you'll read the book because you will understand why the fans are so devoted.
so much good information and i bet every person
that wasn't into the book and reads this, will read them!
i can't believe jacob is number one!
he was shark boy.
lol. robert wasIN harry potte.
you know, the competition movie!?
lol.
I'm not surprised at all that Twilight has completely dominated the searches--I mean, seriously, how could it not? I wasn't allowed to read this for the longest time due to its...genre and the main plot, but when I finally did I sucked it up.
My favorite authors and people to meet:
Jane Austen(if she still lived)
James Patterson
Stephenie Meyer
Brian Jacques
(not necessarily in that order)
:)
I mean, look at the fanbase already without a movie. Can you even begin to imagine what it's going to be like when the movie is released?
Which is valid reason enough for us to say what we want to say back.
I believe comparing Twilight and Harry Potter is pointless. They are both amazing in their own right and shouldn't be put up against each other. I think it's because both fandoms are so passionate and huge that that's where people begin to see similarities. Granted, people who haven't read the Twilight books are underestimating the fandom, but they are in for a very rude awakening. Harry Potter fans would do the same, correct? You would fight for those books as we fight for ours, there's nothing wrong with that. People outside our fandoms should understand that just because we're not indifferent to books-made-into-movies like they are, doesn't give them the right to belittle us and imply that we're wasting our time. Ever heard of respect?
This is not the next Harry Potter. This is Twilight..on it's OWN...backed up by a fantastic director so keen to Stephenie Meyer's vision and very talented actors and actresses with potential to go far in their careers. This is NOT the Covenant..not even by a mile. They are a good looking cast but that's not all what they have going for them. Have you seen Kristen Stewart's body of work (Speak, Panic Room, Into the Wild, In The Land of Women), or watched Robert Pattinson in the Bad Mothers Handbook or The Haunted Airman? How about Nikki Reed in "Thirteen"? All the actors working on this have range that will bleed through the theater screens when you see it. And the best part of this cast? All of them have their heart in it. It cannot get any better than that. Nothing can beat that. Whether this movie tanks in theaters or swims in box office gold, nothing can beat out the dedication and positivity surrounding this movie. And for that, it does not compare.
I've stalked the movie since I heard about it, and I must have watched every single one of the clips and interviews ten times per. All of them--especially Kristen, it seems to me--have their heart in it, and I always feel like screaming like a little girl when I see that there is a new clip.
By the way, anyone have any suggestions on a clip I might NOT have seen?
Interview?
"Speaking of twilightmoms.com - I’m guessing these moms are the same ones that like to dress like their kids and buy them all of the latest “hot†outfits. You know the ones who throw parties for their “little angels†and have myspace accounts and have all of their daughter’s friends’ numbers on speed dial?"
Tyler J, I don't understand how you correlated poor parenting skills by the book they read. So if I was a mother who read Twilight I let my child have parties and dress like my kids? I guess reading Stephen King and Chuck Palahniuk books as well will make me one twisted, party-loving, narcissistic mom then huh?
Lets keep judgmental comments off the readers shall we, and focus on the film and books please.
Harry Potter and Twilight... STOP COMPARING THE TWO!!! Twilight is not the next anything, it is it's own thing! And the covenant how the heck did up with that comparison?! I love all of these stories but they are all different! Yes they are all fantasy but theyre different; 5 interlinked boys who have no choice but be connected to magic, a whole world of magic and a world with one enemy, and a magical love story involving a mortal and a vampire and each book has a different problem. All VERY DIFFERENT!
To the author; yea i had heard of summit entertainment and maybe if you look at their site you'll realize you have too. And you may want to read the books before you criticize!
I love the books, I can't wait for the movie, and I encourage everyone that hasn't read the books to read them.
I think compairing it to Harry Potter or even the Covenant is just not right. Harry Potter's effects were much more graphic because the story took place in an alternate universe... obviously it had to be intense. And the Covenant, well if you have read any of Meyer's books you will know that the plot itself is quite a bit stronger. I highly suggest to anyone who has doubts to at least try reading the books before you judge, Afterall, you should never judge a book by it's cover!
The Movie will be better than Potter even though I am and still am a Harry Potter Fan, but the truth is that Twilight Over all is just way sexier....sorry harry but its true.
But there both great but absoultly nothing alike.
Also, I understand this is a movie site. But if you have read even a few of the comments, you can see the amount of Twilight fans reading this. Anything related to the book or movie, basically ends up on fansites that some of us check daily (or hourly). Most of the traffic on this article is from us Twilight fans because we are eager to know more about something we love and care about. OF COURSE IT SOUNDS CHEESY THE WAY THIS COLUMN DESCRIBES IT! Because anyone who hasn't read the book and summarize is to make it sound like the most corny thing ever. But the legions of fans obviously should tell you, it isn't as cheesy as it sounds. If you were to read a summary from someone who has read it, or on a legitimate fansite (twilightlexiconblog. com), it clearly is not stupid.
Everyone is asking is it the next Harry Potter? Is it the next LOTR? Why can't Twilight just be the next Twilight? HP, LOTR and Twilght are completely different books, but they all have huge fanbases. The amount of fan supposrt behind all three books probably has some influence over the quality!
I'd also like to add: Who is beat Harry Potter off number one on the New York Times Best Seller list? Eclispe (Book Three of the Twilight series)
As far as it becoming the next best fantasy series, news flash, it alreayd is! People are just catching on late, but keep your eyes peeled and you'll see its effect on the type of books that will be published and if the movie is successful enough, the types of movies being made, especially if theyre geared towards its main demographic.
Kudos on the article, its nice to see some stats on this!
Why, in the picture at the top, is Jasper in the back? Like, shrouded out almost?
Anyone else notice that? Yeah, I know it's probably because he isn't a huge character, but still! It's JASPER! The Jasper we all know and love! Not to rant and rave, but isn't he in the story--the first one at least--more then Rosalie? Or at least the SAME amount?
Some validation, please?
But even though I am obsessed with these books I do not have very high hopes for the movie. Now I'm not saying that I think it's going to suck, I just know how much I really love twilight and I don't want to get my hopes up by thinking it's going to be the best movie ever. I am also a big fan of Harry Potter, and yet when I saw the movies, they're nowhere near the quality of the books and I hope that everyone knows that that is what is most likely going to be the case.
Another thing is that yes, whoever wrote this article probably should have researched it a little more and not made such big generalizations, but I do see where if this perspective is coming from. If twilight wasn't a book and they just decided to make a movie like this, and IMDb was pretty much the only place you could get the information from I can see where you could mistake twilight for all of those things.
As for the cast, no they're not perfect, but really, if you actually paid attention to how she described all of the vampire characters, you couldn't honestly think that there is any human on this earth who could fill those rolls. The other characters, well, some might not be like what you thought them to be, but i believe that Stephenie is happy with them, and hopefully their acting doesn't disappoint. For Taylor being Jacob.. well it doesn't really matter to me because I dislike Jacob Black with burning passion, so no matter who plays him I will not like him.
I am very excited to see this movie though (just because I don't have any hope, doesn't mean I'm not excited) and I really can't wait until december. This movie is getting so big, which also makes me very excited. And it may very well be the next Harry Potter, for the box offices at least. I only hope that it is better than the movie of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
i also wanted to say that i agree with most of u that twilight does'nt really belong in a specific age or gender group. i mean, cmon, it could'nt even stay in US boundaries
the first time i heard of twilight, i too went to check it out from the library... bad idea. if i had'nt bought the books id still be waiting in line. besides after buying it u can read it more than once, yes u get that addicted. well don't just take my word for it, buy it, i promise u wont be disappointed!
one more thing, and i swear ill shut up after this, the host is also coming out may 6. i honestly thought i wud hate it but after reading a short passage from stephenie's website, it seems i've got another thing to look forward to.
P.S. can't wait 'till fourth book and movie
i lovelovelove the Twilight series. Okay so what if im a teenage girl, its likee the bestah series everr. AND okay, ive read harry potter, and they are great&&all, but they aint got nothinnnnnn on these boox. RAWR i cant waitt until augusto 2nd andand decembre 12thh.
midnight celebrayyshun anyone??
It is fantasy - and, we will have to remember that the writer wrote to encourage the readers to use their minds to create the ideal characters in our minds, so the casting I'm sure was difficult to even come as close as they did to get these characters.
I'm looking forward to the movie and the next book - hope they catch the spelling/grammar errors this time! Still love the series!
IF U HAVNT READ DA BOOKS YET, GET DA HELL OUTA HERE!!!!!!!!!!
NO HATERS ALOUDDDDDDDDDD
We get it: Twilight just CAN'T be compared to the Harry Potter. We get it: EVERYONE and their fucking cats should read this most amazing work of literature that is almost unknown to everyone but teenage girls and their parents (with a few OUTLIERS). We get it: Regardless of how much you guys refute my previous statement, 99% of the posts supporting this dribble are female - and they're quite full of grammatical errors and rambling...only a few are truly coherent and might represent the words of a credible and educated human being.
Go back to bed, take some adderall. Sleep and forget this night ever happened.
and comparisons.
I also had not heard of Summit Entertainment
when Stephanie made the announcement and I
personally was worried that Stephanie had sold herself
short when I learned a little about the company.
I still worry about it.
I think Stephanie's stories deserve a
film that will stand the test of time. I hope Summit
will rise to the challange. I want it to be a CLASSIC,
not a passing fad.
i honestly don't think age signifies when reading books that have become this popular. also, the reason books are classified as "young adult" or "adult" is because the main character of the book is a young adult or adult (or reach that by the end...). just some trivia. i've read some kind of raunchy young adult novels that surprised me with their content. thats what led me to find out what rates the audience level.
i think that there were maybe three offensive(ish) comments in the article and that was the age comment, the harry potter comment, and the covenant comment???
and i think he was comparing the popularity of the books and the success of them being turned into movies the way HP did...and wondering if they would have similar results...not if HP was better than Twilight or vice versa. no question they're different.
and its not the covenant...which i've seen...but i think he was saying "it sounds more like the covenant than romeo and juliet" not that it was actually like the covenant.
besides that...the most offensive material i've seen has been from the twilight bashers. they're belittling the older fans for proving that there ARE older fans...and they're writing off the books as worthless without reading them...i have a feeling they're just trying to get a rise out of people.
anyways i loved the HP books for themselves and when i looked for something to read afterwards twilight came to my rescue and i love them more i think...maybe because they're a little more simple...in a good way. so maybe it IS the new HP...just because its my new obsession.
hopefully the movie will do the book justice. i like the actors, they seem really nice and supportive of the fans. and if it doesn't thats ok because i don't EXPECT the movie to cover every detail of the book. they never do.
Twilight is a kick butt book and i think everyone should read at least twilight and they will see that twilight is so good that they will want to go and read new moon and eclipse too.
=D
there
Nomadic.
I see.
Breaking Dawn WILL be the best book of teen horror EVER!!!!
**^^!SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ECLIPSE!^^**
If Bella does not marry edward and become a vampire, i will throw the book at the wall, scream insults at it and then write an angry letter of complaint to Stephenie Meyer. However, if it DOES happen, i will absolutely throw a boozerave.
Jacob Black (Taylor lautner) has a major part to play in Twilight as he tells Bella that Edward and his family are vampires. In new moon, Jacob falls in love with Bella. in eclipse, they recognise thier love for each other, even though it is no where near as strong as Edward and Bella's. When Jacob hears the news that Bella is getting marries and becoming a vampire, he is generally very annoyed and upset, and according to the treaty, they would hunt down the Cullen Coven.
Personally, I hate Jacob Black and I want him to die in Breaking Dawn!
Why Taylor is #1? He was the last character to be cast and not a recognizable name. I admit looking him up, but once I saw his picture I knew right away who he was. I hope he does a good job for Jacob, there is no sense being disappointed in who is cast. I just hope they(the cast) make my favorite book into something magical.
I haven't seen the Covenant so I can't say.
As far as being the next Harry Potter, only time will tell. I am not saying these two stories are even comparable, but I think the question is really "Will the Twilight film be just as popular as Harry Potter?" I think yes, because Twilight already has a huge fan base.
I am also a huge fan of Harry Potter and am equally excited for the next movie in that series, but I am anticipating Twilight way more. Why? because I have been sucked into the other-worldly romance that is Twilight. That is one thing Twilight has over H.P., because no matter how old you are, you just cannot deny romantic chemistry. Every woman has fantasies of being swept off her feet, and this is what Twilight is definitely going to do for them.
P.S. There is no sense comparing J.K. to miss Meyer. Both of them and their books are extremely popular. As to numbers and being on the best sellers lists...who cares. The point is they are both popular and both well liked by many people. Although, I am a little steamed at people saying Stephenie is not as talented as a writer as J.K. and doesn't use foreshadowing etc etc. Yes, the Twilight series does have foreshadowing, if you read the series you pick it up. You aren't going to realize the moments of foreshadowing unless you keep reading and then re-reading the series. I am always having "ah-ha" moments every time I re-read. So don't say that Stephenie isn't as talented, because obviously her books wouldn't be so popular if she wasn't. That is all.
And the fanbase.. omg.. it's so massive.. You can't post anything about Twilight online without someone seeing it.
Jacob Black is AWESOME! I know a lot of you people hate him, but I absolutely love him--almost as much as I love Jasper and Edward!
Seriously, people, can't some of you Jacob-haters realize that he is like, the main theme in Eclipse? Seriously, what would happen if there were no Jacob?
Amateur that I may be, you can take it from THIS kind of writer--you HAVE to have a conflict in what you write if you want to keep your readers. If there were no Jacob then, what?
Bella and Edward are in love.
Volturi intend to make sure that Edward turns Bella into a vampire. Edward has to protect Bella from Nomads, and then from Victoria.
End of story?
If you agree with this--not trying to start an argument or be preachy and telling you guys what you are or aren't--then you have no idea how to write a good book.
Sorry.
Just my opinion.
Hurray for Jacob Black and conflict.
also, i love harry potter, but i think twilight could beat him
at least for me!
To all of you haters:
We are the Twilighters, Twi-hards, and fanpires, do not mess with us because we would, in the words of Bella Swan, "Cheerfully beat you to death." Haha just kidding, I actually sounded like a crazed fang girl for a second didn't I? Ah never mind, the point I am trying to make is, and I do not mean to sound cliche (there is supposed to be an accent on the 'e'.) but don't judge a book by its cover. Please read the books before you judge them, especially as harshly as most of you haters are now. It is not cool, a lot of hard work went into writing these books and it is an affront to the author. I know I would be offeneded if someone who had never read my book started bashing it. Come on people be cool.
Well thats all I have to say about that. I really did not mean to write a book. Sorry. Anyway I hope you haters give this book a chance, and Twilighters, fang girls, Twi-hards, Fanpires whatever you call yourselves please don't add fuel to the fire. There is no need for cursing and arguments. Let these haters talk, there is no sense in what they are saying. We know what this is all about. Lets just hope they get some sense and actually pick up the book. Or we could hope the Volturi hunt them down. Sorry that just felt so right. Well thats all there is to that. Hope you all stay well.
i read all three books of the series over the weekend. i just couldnt stop. the twilight series is also for older people who are able to process more than what they do in harry potter. nothing can replace harry potter, but this can outshine it.
Twilight and Harry Potter are totally different but I am sure Twilight is going to be bigger than Harry. Every time i go to the library, i will always hear some person asking the librarian for Twilight/New Moon/eclipse....
I LOVE TWILIGHT!!!
My friend introduced me to the books this week and already I have finished all 3. These books are not just books with a story, they have powers to pull you in and you can’t put them down until you have reached the very end! I couldn’t believe how fast I read these 3 amazingly written books!
They do not even compare to Harry Potter in my opinion! Yes, they are both fantasy but Harry Potter focuses on Harry's life. The Twilight series focuses on these star-crossed lovers who need to face all these hardships just to be together!
Stephanie Meyer (author) is a pure genius in writing these books! Since I have finished them only yesterday in a week I feel lost without reading what happens next to our favorite vampire, Edward and his love, Bella.
I agree that these books are read more by the female teenage society than other society. Most of the girls in my year at school all know about Twilight, no joke. It is all my friends talk and dream about. Not to mention Edward’s character has definitely made the bar higher with the expectations we have for guys!
can wait for 12/12/08....lols everytime im check out the interviews and vids, im always found screaming in front of the comp. my dads like...'' how long is ths going to go on for?''
so im like ''only until the movie comes out..in dec''
Vampires would totally kick those wizards butts!
EDWARD...JACOB...Can't I just have both???
while there are no plot simularities, there is a
simularity i think will be important in Twilights success:
I and many others i'm sure had never heard of hp or
ever considered reading it UNTIL the first film came out!
People go on and on about HP's huge fan base,
but fail to recognise that it was the films release
that helped bring the book into the public eye, so
lets give the same chance to Twilight please.
Oh and or the recors i'm not a teenager and the
literature on my book shelf ranges from austin,
to shakespeare to steinbeck just to name a few.
It annoys me that people think that by reading a
book like Twilight then we must be moronic half wits.
Anyone who truly appreciates the escape-ism
that literature hold will try any any book before
condeming it.
Also anyone who thinks that as this is a movie
review that the books are irreliant then let me
just say that i think the HP movies are cheesy
miss the relivant plot lines and any real dept and
if people didn't love the books so much that
they defiantly wouldn't be making movie 6!
I check Stephenie Meyer's website every day to see updates, and I'm obsessed.
I've read the series twice now, and I absoloutly love it. It has made a great impact on me and I don't go a day without thinking about the books. I have never been captured like this in any other book, it's kind of sad, really.
But anyway, when you say, 'Will this be the next Harry Potter', I know exactly what you mean. Yes, I do think this will be the next big thing that has many countries anticipating for.
For those that can't be bothered to read the series, I promise you, you will not get bored!
I think it's funny that everyone's asking if Twilight will be the next Harry Potter because, ironically enough, Robert Pattinson, who is playing the main vampire Edward Cullen, actually starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory.
I think that it's wrong to say that mostly teenage girls like Twilight - my mother is halfway through New Moon, my aunt has read all the books, my nine-year-old cousin has read them, my grandmother is reading them, for corn's sake!
edward cullen is my SUPERHERO
and bella swan should be my SiSTER
yah..
i wish i was as purrty as ROSALiE
You should read them , they're the best books Ive read.
And I cant w8 for the movie! Im so glad that the cast made up most of the top 30 searched stars on the web . ohh.. I so so love that Kristen and Robert are playing as Edward and Bella!
And for the question : Will twilight be the next Hp?
For me not , because Im hoping it will be much better ;)
That said, I´m NOT looking forward to the film, in fact i don´t plan on watching it.
It´s way too easy to turn it into a very cheap high-school film. One of those that make you think why did they waste money on filming.
So I prefer to enjoy the books, read them as many times as necessary and keep my mental image of the characters. I´m just sad, because i think this film is not going to make people read Twilight, instead, I think they are going to look at us fans as if we´re crazy for liking it. Yes, i shouldn´t judge without seeing the film, but most of the cast (not talking about Kristen or Taylor, I LOVE both of them as Bella and Jacob), and the excerpts I have seen have made up my mind, sorry.
Great Job, Twilight.
And yes, I do believe it will be the next big thing =)
Anyway, Stephenie Meyer herself commented on these ridiculous comments on her blog, and... geez. It's a young adult novel. The main character is a teenage girl. And did anyone notice the word "probably"?
Sometimes our fandom is crazy. Don't take it to heart. :)
Yes, the book is considered "young adult". That means little, if not nothing. When she read the book, she wasn't even considering it to be a YA book. That was the publishers' labeling. And the age labels won't stop other age groups from enjoying it. I think that video games are a lovely example. Have you ever heard of the game, "Halo"? It's rated "M" for Mature (17+), but there is an incredible amount-- I shudder at the thought of the size-- of kids younger than that, younger than ME, the 14-year-old, who are obsessive over Halo. I have family, friends, enemies, frenemies (ha-ha) who obsess. Which is similar to the age differentiation of the Twilight fan-base.
The "mommas" are just pointing out that there is a large older audience to the Twilight series. I don't think that they are taking these comments as blows to their ego or anything, just pointing out reality.
"When she rad the book" is supposed to be "When she [Stephenie Meyer] WROTE the book". Heehee.
The book, is so great, i love it.
It is my life ;) .
It's a book. And its becoming a movie. Why do we have to go comparing it to EVERYTHING NOW when we have not even seen it yet. How bout we just wait and see.
I did notice the comment by Esther however, and it is true. When people go to libraries looking for the book, it's under Young Adult so for all 18 and over, it's fine. And for 14-15 year old girls as well, thats also fine. It's for anyones age. But people like this writing these kind or articles saying, "Oh no the audiance of this book is primarily young teenagers... blah blah blahhh" they are most likely wrong! Who are they to know if they have never read the book in the first place, or even heard about it.
So we really can't BLAME the author just know that you can read WHATEVER it is you WANT to read and keep it that way.
And in opinion, ewwwwww NO. Harrt Potter is so out once Twilight hits Theaters. People are going to go and see the movie and be like, "wow that was an AWESOME movie, I wonder where they got the idea to do something like that!?" And us, complete fans of the Twilight books will be like, "Yea, it was... I read the book!" "There was a book?" And it goes on.
Thank you.
yeat but I will. I tried to get in to the hole HP fandom and I tried to
read the frist book but it put me to sleep it wasn't all that. I hope this movie stays more in tune with the book not like another teen movie that came out on dvd aka blood and Chocolate it didn't stay true to the book. I hope it at least would have a good soundtrack. I'm planing on seeing it when it comes out to my area.
Now I have passed the goods on to my 18 yr old sister, my 65 yr old grandmother, and a 50 yr old friend. Not to mention my hubby. My sister has been trying to rent theses books to read again from the library for over two months. There is a waiting list like mad..and she can't get them. So it is crazy to think that people aren't aware of this series.
Sure it may be rated YA. But the subject matter is something everyone can relate to. No not the vampire part, but the love and the feelings portrayed by these characters. If people would just give it a chance and stop judging it, like I did.. they might come to find they like it. I know when I try to explain to people what the book is about it comes off uber corny and makes the book sound horrible. But then you read it and see that it isn't nearly as cheese- tastic as it sounds.
As for the Harry Potter stuff. I have been a Potter Head for a while now. I never thought anything would even come close to holding my interest. But Twilight has. The may have the fantasy and the popularity and the female author thing in common.. but it truly does end there.
Just give it a chance.. if you don't like it, you don't like it. Who cares. But it Twilight does have a huge fan base and it will be big. Will it be Harry Potter big?? Does it matter? I really don't think so. I think all that matters is that the fans of the books are happy.
As for the Covenate comment.. Seriously.. my one year old son could make a better film. The MTV promo stuff that has been 5 mins long is already better then that whole movie..lol
So no I don't think Twilight going to be the next Harry Potter ( I do like harry potter) it's going to be better!
Hopefully.
In response to your added disclaimer... I do believe that Twilight will become the next big fantasty movie, and possibly movie series. With the Harry Potter book series finished, and the movies winding down, Twilight brings a new and fresh face to the fantasy movie world. Of course, I won't compare them or judge them based on one another, because that would be both completely unfair and also biased, on my part. But I have a strong feeling that, if the production of Twilight is solid and Stephenie hands over the rights to New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn as well, the Twilight series will gain a huge following, not only from diehard fans of the books, but also newcomers who have never read them and just thought that the film synopsis sounded interesting.
When it comes to the age issue... truth be told, I was recommended by my friends, who are all my age -- fourteen and fifteen. And, it's also true that quite a few fans of the series are in their teen years. But in a livejournal community called "Lion and Lamb", a poll was conducted, and the results showed that 36.4 percent of its members -- exactly two-hundred people -- were ages twenty to twenty-five. That was the highest percentage; the closest one below it was 35.5 percent, one-hundred ninety-five members, who were ages seventeen to nineteen. Only a fraction of the community's members were ages fourteen to sixteen.
I read the series in three days -- one book a day. My mom has read the books and is almost obsessed as me, I'm in the process of convincing my father to read them, and practically everyone I know has read the series and really enjoyed them -- males included. So, while what you said about "if you’re not a teenage girl or a mother than chances are that you probably have no idea what Twilight is" is partly true, it's always a good idea to search around and find some counter-evidence, as well; there's always a second side to every story, and a second count to every statistic.
All of that pushed aside, though, I enjoyed reading this article, and I'm very glad that Twilight is getting such an enormous amount of publicity. It's nice to see a book series and author gain attention when they really deserve it.
-SweetBlood
With the intelligent and great style of Stephenie Meyer it is the best fantasy novel ( including Harry Potter) I've ever read!
I just can recommend reading it so that you can decide yourself it keeps its promises;)
Bleh. I'm excited for the movie, though. They best not let me down after all this hype >_>
I don't think Twilight is the next Harry Potter. A series like Harry Potter is SO rare - it got kids reading again. It was MY first bigger novel. Twilight, while it does have many fans from every walk of life, IS more targeted towards women - teens that is. I don't think very many little boys would read it, I don't think THAT many dads have. Its just not the same =] And as much as I love the Twilight series..well...half the book is total cheese XD And Harry Potter was written better. So yeah. Twilight might be the next big fantasy series(Hell, it already is!) but it will never be the next HP ^^; A phenomenon like that just doesn't come around ever couple decades.
I am a little sad that it mostly is girls that read it because it is a really good book.
I'm embarrassed for how unreasonably childish most Twilight fans have been behaved when replying to this post. Regardless of if the Twilight fanbase is huge, it is - at its core -- a book that was written with the intention of it being for teenage girls. In the bookstore, it's in the young adult section. In this sense, Harry Potter is a book that is aimed at children and it still remains in the children's section of the bookstore to this day.
I really don't know if Twilight will be the next Harry Potter, but personally the notion doesn't offend me. Twilight and Harry Potter both happen to be hugely popular fantasy-related book series and due to that, comparisons can't help but be drawn.
I personally hope it is, if only so I can see the rest of the books made into movies. The books are very enchanting and heart-warming, and the love story between Edward and Bella is just magnificent. I don't think the cast could any better, either.
But fellow Twihards, really, try to calm down. You don't need to verbally attack someone any time, quoting Twilight's mass appeal and vowing it isn't just for "teenage girls." Like I said, there are still several people who believe Harry Potter is "just for kids." Don't worry about the target audience and appreciate the fact that you love the book for what it is and not who it's aimed at.
Harry Potter is an English series written by JK Rowling. The Twilight series is by an American first time author Stephenie Meyer.
Both have fantasy based characters and out of this world plots.
They're both set in a high school environment where the main characters find themselves.
Their fanbases are also of different ages, ethnicity and sex.
And that's it.
Twilight and Harry Potter may belong to the same book, but are of different pages.
I'm from the Philippines, and I love twilight. :)
Of course, I also love Harry Potter but their degrees are different. Edward and Harry just can't be compared.
Neither is Bella and Hermione/Ron.
I CANNOT WAIT TIL "BREAKING DAWN" HITS THE SHELVES!!!!
:]
Oh and sorry about my bad English, I'm 15 but i'm so bad at English. ^_^'' But my last word's are; I love Twilight, New moon, and Eclipse. And of course Stephenie (Who woudn't?! :D) And i'm really waiting for the movie, it's gonna be great.
and no, please don't spaz at me- i like twilight a lot too.
theres just something about hp- the details and the craft and everything that jk rowling put into it.
it's an amazing story
It's a toss up for me which series is my favorite though. I read the 5th and 6th Potter books in four days; the Twilight series (as it stands) in three! And have read both series several times since (H.P. 5 times, Twilight 4 times- in one month!)
This is HUGE! And shame on you for not knowing sooner. But i encourage you to read and enjoy- It'll knock your socks off!
hes the one who played warren peace. he also played in the covenent. The reason he could not have been picked is because he is to mature-looking. You have to remember in the first book Jacob is just this pruney little boy, with ugly long hair.
i think they did a great job by casting taylor lutner. hell DO GREAT for twilight, new moon, AND eclipse.
first off, if you haven't read it then how can your opinion even be creditable?
secondly, why are we even comparing the two? they are both good books. period. they are nothing alike and don't try to be.
thirdly, the covenant was about warlocks/witches right? completely irrelevant.
-and werewolves are good guys.
However, I LOVE the Twilight series, and having been following it since the beginning.
Will it be the next HP? For me no, it will be BETTER.
On a different note, yes I am a teenage girl, but Twilight has many fans, young and old, boys and girls.
Does anyone know the age of most HP fans?
And my last comment is just that I like the fact that someone who didn’t know anything about Twilight wrote this article- it makes it more real.
In my opinion Twilight is much better then Harry Potter,
I do like harry potter but I love Twilight.
As for the movie I think they did a great job casting everyone and I believe they will do a good in the movie.
I can't wait until it comes out in Decemeber and I'm looking forward to getting Breaking Dawn.
VAMPIRE > THAT WIZARDS. Seriously. WE'LL EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST. xD
Robert should totally say that. Seriously. *cough*
Hufflepuff bites. GET MY DRIFT?
I am looking forward to watch the movie.
OOps!AND I think the TWILIGHT SAGA is even better than the HARRY POTTER SERIES...........
If there is something where Twilight beats Harry Potter, it's the relationships and the emotional development, but this is no wonder since Twilight is focused on that, whereas Harry Potter isn't.
Yes, not everyone will like it. Some will judge it. But, I in the other hand is incredibly excited about the Breaking Dawn coming out in August.
I was actually shocked who Summit had picked for the actors and actresses but I will be there when the movie comes out.
Thank you for the article, I enjoyed.
Here's the twist - Twilight is, just as Harry Potter before it, getting a whole generation of kids and adults to open a book, as opposed to plunking down in front of the television. Bravo!!
In fact, my 15 year old daughter has now read 'Pride and Prejudice', is studying 'Romeo and Juliet' at school, and will probably check 'Wuthering Heights' out of the library next!! Those of you who have read the books will understand the connection.
The film will be all in good fun - and we hope that it lives up to the hype. It may be terrible in the end, but we'll still have the books, right?
As to being a teen phenom, it probably started out that way. I personally picked up the book to see what had my daughter and her friends so excited (parents should be aware, right). I love the books, not because they are literary genius, but because they strike a note with me (and everyone else I have talked to that has read them). In fact, there are numerous typos and misprints in the books - who cares?
Personally, I love to see a young woman (who is also a mother) find such fantastic success!! Kudos to Stephanie Meyer!!
And...I'll see everyone in my area at midnight on August 2nd as we await the latest book, 'Breaking Dawn', and again at the midnight showing of the 'Twilight' movie. Oh, and my 52 year old friend will be with me and my daughter and her friends and their mothers.....get my drift?
are they really doing a midnight showing of Twilight the movie? i know that its gonna be sold out quick b/c we fans are hardcore, but i want to buy tickets in advance so i dont trample the youngsters in my haste to get to the movie. Is this just your area or didyou read something that i havent found yet? The movie comes out 3 days after my bday so its a present to myself that i will probaly see it over and over again that weekend. they may as well sell weekend passes to the movie y'know?
and as for the similarity between harry potter and twilight, THERE IS NO SIMILARITY EXCEPT FOR ROBERT PATTINSON, and i'm quite dissappointed that they chose him for edward b/c edward is supposed to be this beautiful god-like creature and this kid is just.......not. and the cast for the cullens isn't exactly the beautiful creatures that we are lead to believe in the books.
but i am hoping that it still turns out ok, one of the big reasons why i'm still excited about the movies coming out is who they got for jacob black once he turns into a werewolf, Steven Strait, he was the best decision they could have made for that role, he fits it perfectly.
Any how i loved the books, not only were they good but they captured my mind and held it fast. Oh, and i made a few of my friends reed as well. They loved the books and like me are waiting for Aug. to come rollen by! It's a love story through and through, but it's not all that girly. lol, can't wait for the movie, maybe it won't be so bad....... Hopefully.
From one Twilight fan to another, I have to say it: CHILL, GUYS.
WE'RE GIVING TWILIGHT A BAD REPUTATION BEFORE THE MOVIE EVEN COMES OUT. I could honestly say from an objective point of view that jumping on bloggers for not having done the proper research will only garner a bunch of Twilight haters. It's better if we just SUPPORTED THE MOVIE, and watched it multiple times...not like I needed to say that. (Psycho-fanatics that we are, we'd probably see it at least twice.)
As for the original blog, I really don't think it's going to wind up like The Covenant, which had a sucky story to begin with. Twilight books were pretty good and from what I've seen, it seems to stick pretty close to the original storyline. Hmmm... we'll see.
One thing to keep in mind is: never unestimate the power of rabid, fangirly females (young and old). Twilight is like CRACK for women. It's what we fantasize about but are too ashamed to admit to. It's like porn for us, really. Plus, the males in Twilight are gorgeous. This is where we have an edge over Eragon. LOL.
This is irrelevant but whoever compared the sales of DH to Eclipse... I mean wtf. They're even bringing out the fact that DH sold a kajillion more books than Eclipse. That's a bit unfair. You should compare the initial sales of POA with Eclipse, or wait until Stephenie writes the seventh Twilight book to compare DH.
Lastly, blogger and the usual blog readers must be sick to death of us Twilight fans by now. I'm so sorry that we spammed the crap out of this blog. But you must understand how defensive people can get about things they love, esp women, 'passionate' women.
PS: I am 20 and not a teen or preteen, just FYI. Oddly enough, one of the major sites recently conducted a poll and found the majority of visitors were actually in their 20s. I don't think people have realised that Twilight is enjoyable for all ages, except maybe children, with all the heavy sexual undertones and all =P
Sorry, I fail at life. XD
we all cant wait omg......
boomshackalacka .. yezzz. twilights hitting theaters in december...
ps: l just hurt her hand trying to type......
this is gonna be a great movie .. ive read all 3 books
~I first need to say that even though you both are "opposed" to each other, You two are the only two in this whole freaking website that makes any sense.
~I need to first say that i have read the book series and I watch A LOT of movies, so I agree with both of you on different points.
~The books were awesome I won't lie about that but again we are talking about the movie (like Duca said) which has not played yet. I never got around to reading Eragon but the movie was really really BAD!! I hope that the Twilight movie won't be like that ....but...we (as Twilight fans) don't know that yet, I think that is what Duca was saying. My own example is the CatWoman movie that casted Haley Barry as catwoman was the worst movie I have ever seen, but they story line of catwoman is amazing. Haley Barry is a beautiful woman (such as the pretty boys in a lot of movies) but the movie was crap.
~The point I make of the book (which EruditeVixen stated)it is a "shut down book" or as I call it a comfort book because you could really be upset and read that book and it calms you down but it doesn't take your 100% attention. I have read HP and i see no similar details if anything HP took ideas for other books such as a graphic novel called School of Magic printed in the early 70s. I think the books were amazing and encourage anyone to read them. I really hope the summit entertainment does the movie right. I LOVE EDWARD AND HARRY! THEY ARE BOTH DIFFERENT!!! DIFFERENT!!!
~My last point is what is the big deal about a book being targeted towards young females....its not like YOUNG FEMALES RUN AWAY!! NOBODY SAID THAT!!!! The book is targeted towards young females (deal with it) but that doesn't mean old wrinkly men can't read them either. The producer and author just can get lots of money this way LOL! The author of the blog could of said "This book is targeted towards young hormonal female brats and older women who have no life" (I'm not saying this but that is what the author could of said). People just need to chill out!
Peace out! :) :)
anyone that has not read it should give it a try and read it.
i can't wait for the movie to come out
and the Twilight movie in my opinion is way better than Harry Potter
and I have read the Harry Potter books
My answer to this is yes. The Twilight Series will be everything the Eragon and Golden Compass series wishes they'd been, i.e. winners at the box office. However, it will never reach Harry Potter levels and I believe that is pretty much an accepted realization in the Twilight fandom.
This is a great article and I am thrilled to see the Twilight actors rated so highly on IMDb. However, I am a little disappointed at the lack of coverage the film has in the UK. The books are just as hyped by readers over here but still the media don't seem to have caught on. The video's on MTV.com cannot be watched abroad which makes it even more aggravated when people like me are so anxious to see the latest updates. I find myself checking StephanieMeyer.com every day for the latest updates she has posted (and I am greatly thankful for those by the way!).
Anyway, great article, thrilled to learn more about twilight. One thing to say - watch out Harry Potter, your going to have to learn to be beaten!
In Harry Potter he always tries to save other people, even though that might mean risking himself. He always tries to do what is right. Sometimes he is overcome by what he wants and what he really needs to do.
In the Twilight series Edward is always overcome by what he wants and what he needs to do. Bella is trying to do what she wants without sacrificing the others safety and knowing that sometimes what is right for you might not be what is right for others.
In both books they surround the futures of the main characters by the right choices they make and the choices that make them happy.
My personal preference between the books is definitely the Twilight Series because I find that it has more realistic problems facing 2 people (well 1 person, 1 vampire) in such an intense, true
love really interesting. I do love Harry Potter and I'm sure most people like this book better because young children could love HP but young children wouldn't understand Twilight! I think the Twilight series has a more narrow fan base (in age, i mean) because HP is something all ages can understand but Twilight is something I love 10x more although not everyone could agree I love Twilight SO MUCH!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FOURTH BOOK TO COME OUT!
"YOU BETTER HOLD ON TIGHT , SPIDER MONKEY" lol
i can `t wait for the movie to come out , or for the 4th book BREAKING DAWN to come out xD
So come on Stephenie Meyer, i want more and I don't think i'm the only one...
I am a huge harry potter fan and it's thanks to harry potter fansites that i started reading twilight, which now is my absolute favorite book along with harry potter. The main reason people keep saying that twilight is the next harry potter is because it's a great series that contains some of the same qualities as harry potter. You find fantasy, romance, action and drama. That just happen to be the ingredients of a great book, and calling it the next harry potter isn't a bad thing, if you remember how it went for HP... It just shows how popular twilight is and i cant wait to read it over and over again...
/Tove of Sweden
As for the movie...im nervous! But i hear good things. Like the fact that Krisin and Robert have excellent chemistry...which is great because Edward and Bella have the strongest chemisty ever known. I hope the director realizes how important these books are to some people and take that and make a great movie...IM COUNTING THE DAYS UNTIL AUGUST 2nd AND DECEMBER 12th!!!!!!!!!
and can't wait till the MOVIE comes out!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!
:)
-Thanks
they are both so different . what they have in common is:
1) both fantasy books
2) tons of people read them .
3) highly anticipated book / movie .
stop comparing them ,
theyare both really good , i love both .
but right now TWILIGHT is the best ! xD
Seriously though, this movie could SUCK as bad as The Covenant or Eragon and I would STILL pay $40 to see it four times!!!
I'm from germany and I have to say that the twilight series right now is so popular and famous that the movie wil definetly will kick harrys ass.
my friends and i have read this book and it is the best book ever in my oppinion we think that j.k. this book tops yours a million times over and over. not to be mean but this book is the book of the century and needs to be read to know what i mean.
Im from Croatia and we love it here!
It is electric and it sizzles! and nothing like harry potter.
Read it if you want to fall in love with Edward (the vampire) or just to be spellbound!!
Can't wait for the film.
but I looove both :)
( maybe ) if you think your a good big fan tell me why please cause untill someone does i believe i an the most biggest fan ever so you know if you think you could top mine changing my room to match twilight theme then let me knoe please
Also Katie I think it was, nice comment about the "If you live forever what do you live for?" I saw the/a poster with that and loved the quote very much.
It is not fair to be compared with Harry Potter. Harry Potter is not as much about the romance and the love triangle and just because they are both fantacy and have lots of dedicated fans, the should not be catagorized.
Also, I am Ashamed that you get paid to write this article! At least do a little research before you compare twilight to the COVENANT! These vampires don't sleep in coffins, they don't have fangs, and real vampires SPARKLE!
Steph. Meyer has created a world so like our own tons of twilighters, twi-hards, etc. have come to believe that these people/ vampires/ werewolves are real! We have fallen in love with Jake/Edward and despise Victoria/ James. We have laughed, cried, and CAN NOT WAIT until August 2nd.
Just because I am in the stereotype of "tennage female demographic" DOES NOT mean that we all are! We range from not-even-teens to 70's and 80's! I don't know why they hired you, but they shouldn't have.
Also, I find myself using quotes from the books in everyday life. And I can't say lion without saying "sick masichistic." I talk about Edward and Bella like they are people I see at school everyday.
I love you Stephenie Meyer and Thank you so much! I can not wait until August 2nd and I'm counting down the days. But I am also a little bit afraid to read it because of what might happen to them... Oh well! I can't wait!
I apoligize if I have offended anyonein my comments.
Thank you very much for the article.(even if you didn't have all of the facts correct.)
Secondly, peopple should not compare Twilight to Harry Potter as it is not at all similar or comparable to it. HP is about a teenage boy who goes off from his mean aunt and uncle, learns to fly a broom, becomes a wizard and defeats Lord Voldemort. Errr sorry if i'm mistaken but none of that happens in Twilight. It is a story about love and also vampires and werewolves. Oh wait, you were calling it for having werewolves in it, but what is Remus Lupin in Harry Potter?
Thirdly, i know many teen boys, mothers, grandmothers and fathers who have read this book and all of which have deeply enjoyed it. Most of whom have said it is far better than Harry Potter as it doesn't lose its magic after a few re-reads. I feel you have shown your ignorance in saying it is mainly directed at teenage girls and find it deeply insulting.
Finally you have made quite a big mistake in giving it such a seemingly poor review without doing any research as Twilight's fan base is quickly growing and in your own words, it knocked HP off the USA Todays #1 spot.
Please just read the books - I am positive you too will become an avid fan =]
THE TWILIGHT SAGA
I have come to the conclusion that the film will never be as good as the books (I think that nothing can compare to your own imagination) and the cast will never live up to every single Twilight fan's expectations. But the can try as hard as they can to portray their characters as they are directed. I mean, no-one on earth could ever live up to an Edward standard but if anyones going to do it, it should be Robert Pattinson. Agreed?
I can't chuffing wait for the film!! December is so far away!!!
Also I'm 22 years old =)
ps. kellen wears an awsome hat in the movie!!
Now, nothing in the original blog was offensive to me. The blogger was ignorant of the series. Okay, ignorance is not the same as stupidity. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge in a certain subject. We are all ignorant somewhere in some way. He is now aware of both the movies and books - leave him alone to remedy his lack of knowledge.
I have no knowledge myself to whom the esteemed Ms. Meyers was directing her storytelling. I only know I found the book in Young Adult section of my local library. I picked it up for my preteen daughter. I read it first because I like to do that (the better to know what's being fed into my child's head). So, my assumption is that the target audience (maybe chosen by the editor and distributor rather than Stephenie herself) is young adult. I would think that it would initially appeal more to girls than boys simply because it is at i'ts core a romance. Now, in the end, it's target audience has nothing to do with who reads it. HP's, Golden Compass, Narnia books were all targeted at young adults. None were read SOLELY by young adults. Stating the target demographic has no impact on the reality of who's reading it, so get your knickers out of a twist already.
Any comparisons to Harry Potter are a bit silly. Harry Potter at the core is simply a coming of age story. A magnificently written, wholly engaging and utterly beautiful (and long-winded) coming of age story. But still, a coming of age story. The Twilight books are not. Being 100 years old, Edward is well past his coming of age, and Bella being a junior then senior in high school is at best in the middle-towards-end of coming of age. Where Harry is led through circumstances beyond his control that are shaping him into the man he will become, Bella and Edward are making choices that are affecting their futures. There's a big difference there. Now, the draw of these books is that 1) in the vein of Harry we all are faced with circumstances we can't control that we have to muddle our way through to the end. And those things do shape our characters. 2) in the vein of Bella and Edward we all make choices - good and bad - resulting in consequences we must live with. They are both vaild stories, but not the same.
Twilight, and it's predecessors, aren't fluff simply because they aren't as complexly woven as Harry Potter. The Narnia books are less complex by far than Harry Potter, and people have been loving them and reading them for 58 years. (And they are being made into fairly successful films as well)
The questions posed were "What is Twilight" and "Will it be the next Harry Potter"
Twilight is a love story that focuses on the choices the protagonists make and the consequences of those choices.
It can't be the next Harry Potter. That's a silly catchphrase that I detest. Harry Potter is Harry Potter. Twilight is Twilight. Will it be as successful a film as Harry Potter? Only time will tell.
To be frankly honest, the quality of the Harry Potter films seem to slip a bit with each installment, so maybe the question should be will Twilight be a popular in theatres as the particular Harry Potter film it will be sharing theatres with?
Oh, and to the unbelievably numerous comparisons to The Covenant..... The Covenant was a bout WITCHES - nary a vampire in sight. It was mostly action-based, while Twilight's only action sequence should be the end of the film. That's mostly what is seen in current clips, because that was what filmed first. But it's not what the majority of the film is (unless they make a GRAND departure from the book, in which case it will go the route of Eragon......but I'm not really thinking that's how it's gonna play).
And, for the final recors, since everyone is so concerned about age and gender. I'm 33, my husband is 34 and enjoyed the books, my daughter is 12 and enjoyed the books,a nd a family friend is 16 and male, and loves the books (he is not too happy with the casting, though)
but to compare them in a way thats says twilight is the new harry potterr...
i dunno,
Twilight and harry potter are two different things, set in different places, etc, BUT, i know if i had to choose,
harry potter or twilight, i would SOOOO chose twilight.
i will actually end up randomly screaming in class...just thinking about it!
and like, i recorded the mtv thing on my phone, and i watch it daily...even during school!
i am so anxious for the movie, and i wish the BEST OF LUCK to the ENITRE cast and crew!
you all play such an important role, and your fans are like, so PROUD and happy for yall!
greetins from texas!

I know most of the books which are made into movies are much better as a book than as a movie.
I think the twilight movie will be a huge succes, even when it's actually bad. Because there many fans of the books who want to see, read and know anything about the book(s). All these fans are oing to watch the movie, even when its actually nothing special.
Anouk (16, the Netherlands)
I agree, Edward and Bella are ment for each other,
but you shouldnt hate Jacob. He is a good kid and a very good friend of Bella. You should read on stepheniemeyer.com what Stephenie wrote about this. She explains very clearly why Jacob is okay.
please read it. Anouk
Have Fun!!
(really you guys should be nicer to the person who posted this)
and, as every one is basically saying... Twilight over rules Harry Potter big time. hands down the best books ever. as said.
Stephenie Meyer is one of my number one authors & im even buying her new book, The Host.
Hope the movie is good & doesnt ruin the books .. hate it when tht happens & for anyone who LOVES a good page-turning romance (& kinda adventure) these series are a MUST READ!!!!!
Live on Stephenie Meyer!!! xxxx
I must say, the movie may not be good. But so what? If you don't want your concept of Twilight ruined, don't go. If you are curious enough to see it depicted on the big screen, head on over to the movies December 12th. Either way, its your choice.
Twilight rules!
Sorry to plug, but if you have Facebook, check out The Stephenie Meyer Fan Club :)
Go Twilight fans! Dominate GOOGLE, dominate IMDB (more), dominate THE BOX OFFICE (in December)!!!!! Will it be the next Harry Potter? Probably not. Will it be amazing, and does it have a huge fanbase? Yes.
it will be BETTER. Million times better.
In my world, it already is the best.
harry potter has nothing on TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!
But as a Twilight fan, I AM worried about the movie. You want it as good as the book. So when an unknown production company casts unknown people, I just HAVE to see what thier doing (probably contributing to the STARmeter of Taylor Lautner).
But will Twilight become the next Harry Potter? No, I HOPE not.
I didn't really like the Potter books-- I just couldn't get into Rowling's style of writing. Meyer's books appeal to me so much more, and in my opinion, deal with even deeper, stronger issues than Harry Potter. What's MORE compelling than love and death?
Meyer's created a beautiful world that invites me back again and again. And there's nothing that can compete with that.
New Moon - AWESOME
Eclipse - PERFECT
The movie will be amazing!! I can tell!!! =D
I dream about Edward...is that weird or what?? haha
It WILL NOT be the next Harry Potter!!!!! It will be MUCH better!!!!
I love Harry Potter and all but i love Twilight even more!!
TWIIGHT MOMS RULE THE WORLD!!!*****
Maybe I'll write something myself-I gained confidence in myself thanks to the wonderful author :)
As you can tell Twilight fans are quite devoted to the movie.
I think that, yes, Twilight will do well in theaters. Especially since it is following after the release of an equally compelling genre.
are all totally awesome!
i am thrilled they are making a movie!!!
it will be awesome and it may even be better
than harry potter!...which is also totally
awesome. and btw...
jackson rathbone will do a wicked awesome
job portraying jasper!
i cant wait til december 12th!!
its there. and very true
!!!!!OH NO! ITs so much BETTER!!!!!!!
1. To the author of this post, personally I don't think you should be really commenting on what the "general" audience is with out scienfically going out, collecting a true random sample and then anaylzing the data. Soory but I refuse to to think that this series has capured the majority of younger teenage or tween females, I am not a mom or have a daughter, I am a freakin 21 yr old fulltime working, fuultime college student who can't gte enough of them! to the point that i have re-read each book so much the stupid binding is falling apart!!!!! Get the true facts before posting such information please.
2. To those who think that this will be the nest HP, I can't really decifer which one would be my favorite if I had to pick only one! I think people from the US ar eliking this one more becasue its "american" in origin. We are constantly seeing films, book and fads caused by these coming from Europe so now we have something to boast about! HP is the favorite Europe production and Twilight is tha favorite American. Quit comparing them it's stupid and irrational.
3. Also to those (including the suthor of the article)saying its like The Covenant, you have seen the movie (well hopefully if you are trying to not sound stupid) and you are trying to make a comparision from the behind the scenes clips of Twilight to that?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! Then youi truly you must be ignorant, if you had half a brain you would realize that the films in their polished moment are no where near what it looked like when actually filming the damn thing! Lets take a look at Pirates and Captian Jack Sparrow, he did not look like he does in the film compared to the behind the scenes. Get it straight.
As a conclusion to my ranting, I would just like to say that everyone needs to lay off the Twilight BS because it just pisses people off more. Oh! And to the fans, we all know there will be a sequal and the producers of the movies have allowed for the Twilight film and probably for the future ones an open casting call for extras but only for residents of Oregon, I say that we all need to bombard these people with emails and such to allow for an open border open casting calls to allow anyone the opportunity to audition for even a background part in one of the favorite series!!!!
When i heard that it was a story about vampires I had to admitt that I was not super excited to read the book. My friend told me about them, she said that I had to read it. I did against my will. I fell absolutly in love with the books.(by page 10) I have probably read the book about 27 times. Yeah, crazed fan girl here, not really. I have also read the Harry Potter series. I have to admitt they are similar, but with many differences. Harry Potter is very good, but in my opinion Twilight is better than Harry Potter in more ways than one. I wont list them all because the list is far to long. I hate Jacob Balck its not the actor who is playing him, i hate the character that Stephenie decided to make him. Edward is far better for her than Jacob. I hate that he is most searched that means that Team Jacob is growing. Ewww....I am a Fanpire...or Twilighter all the way babe. I am also a member of the Edward is Totaly Hot Fan Club (see mtv for more names for twilight fans.).
Team Edward all the way!!!
Please read Stephenie Meyer's blog people. =)
Love. Not war. =)
I really can NOT wait till "Breaking Dawn" and the movie comes out. This has to be the best year, for all the "Twilighters". The Twilight series is like no other book I've came across. I'm so IN love with it.
Also to the people who haven't read it but still feel the need to comment like the "mike" guy up there, you're a moron for not reading the books before you judge it.
I'm fifteen and I love these books! But I also got- in addition to most of my friends- my mom, several of my cousins (the oldest of which is thirty and a guy), my grandma, my great aunt and my uncle into them.
Vampire books aren't my thing normally but these are NOT in any way cheesy- like buffy (ugh!)- and they aren't like normally sci-fi books that are just awful.
It's also NOTHING like the covenant-no idea where they got that comparison from!
Please people, if you are going to write an article or comment DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST!
Because you just annoy people when you run your mouth off without the facts.
those books are my life.
i can tell u every last detail thats happend in each book. i have each one more than 3 times. i have read anything and everything about twilight that i can.
there the best and everyone needs to read them.
And I'm so very sure that Twilight will definitely do better than Harry Potter in the box office.
that series is Waaaaaayyyyy better that Harry Potter!
Can't wait till the movie and breaking dawn...
GIVE THE BOOK A CHANCE, it's the most amazing book I've ever read.
...not exactly what I was going to say, but I don't want to bore anyone
hehehe... I just reread that comment by Captain Awesome.. hehe, phalus. I wonder why none of the twilight people haven't nuts over that comment? Hmmm... I guess they didn't bother to read any of the comments.
fifty times already! I'm serious. The book is awsome and i am awaiting the movie and fourth book anxiously!
I know Twilight is going to be the next Harry Potter!!!!!!
:) Thanx for reading!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!!! Don't hate on the cast if they don't look right, please, people. Their personality could be totally and completely perfect.
And,please, for the love, don't hate on Jacob. Yes, he has some issues, but he's almost as good, if not as good, as Edward. He's just different.
Harry who?
Even though some say that they have never even heard of the book until now and they are apparently positive that it is not known greatly, I say that it will blow the HP series out of the water. (For all of you who say this, you just wait and see)
Oh and I would just like to say that lots of different ages and genders read the series. From what i have heard, from basically trillions of people, is that they unconditionally love it.
And lastly I would just like to say that Stephanie is a very influential and amazing person. She is the one who allowed so many people to experience this love story and in some way escape to into the novel (I personally felt as though i was in Forks living as Bella) I truly appreciate what she has done and will continue to read her books and support them entirely (keep em' coming!!)
So, I absolutely LOVE TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!! I think my mom wanted to yell at me for constantly walking around with my nose in the series. I just could NOT put it down!! I personally believe that this series TOTALLY BEASTS Harry Potter (and I use to think that Harry Potter was the best series out but that was before I read Twilight). I am looking forward to the release of Breaking Dawn more than I had for Deathly Hallows.
Also, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE TO COME OUT!! I really hope that they do a great job with telling the tale of the book (at the very least better than what the 5th Harry Potter movie did with that book... I didn't like that movie, no offense meant towards anyone who did like it). But I have growing faith in the director with each new clip or article put out about this movie.
I love Stephenie Meyer for writing about her dream and expanding on it!
hi there. I think everyone needs to calm down a little...
first of all poor Peter lol.
He hasn't read Twilight,
he was just writing an article
about the Movie and Cast being one of the Top searches
on the net. ^^' Oh and like somone else mentioned,
i like the fact he didn't know about the Twilight Saga.
It jus goes to show how far fandom is reaching out.
I personally love the fact somthing new is out there
for more people to recognize Twilight is out there.
I highly recomend this best seller to all newcomers/oncomers.
and second i have to repeat... Hp and Twilight, nothing in common.
now third, yes this book is read mainly by teenage girls,
and about half of these posts comfim that.
tho... i do not agree it is for just teen girls.
Im a 19yr girl yes. bu being reading lovers and Fantasy lovers,
my big bro(21)
is the one who decided on this series to buy and read next.
we BOTH love it! and can't wait for said 'Movie' and
said 'Breaking Dawn' in August.
oh and i know you all say this will be forgotten well before
a hudred years. bu i personally think
this book and Movie is already making history.
Respectfully,
Yup, im a die-hard Jacob Black fan!
Neko~
I LUV EDWARD!!!!!!!!
This movie is going to freaken roock!
All of the characters match perfectly. I am so anxios for it come out!
I wish they would hurry up. But what good would that do?
This is my fav book of all time and it is going to be my fav movie too!!!!!
Seriously, everyone in my school, including all of the teachers have read it and have loved it, even my grandma, who is, like 65! NOT KIDDING! Well, i have read all of the books at lease 4 times, and nowcurrently reading Twilight. I am extatic that there is a movie coming out and there couldn't be any better (or cuter) actor/actresses in this movie. Everyone at my lunch table always talks about the movie and how awesome it is going to be. SO THERE!
author of all time (to me)!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you keep on writing more books on this subject and make even more books in the series for Twilight. This really is your forte!
LUV your books and characters!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankx Catherine Hardwicke for making the movie! Can't wait!!!!
Twilight's number 1 FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
It should be a law that everyone loves Twilight, and if you don't, you go to jail for 1,000,000 years!!!!!!!!!!!
it doesnt deal with wands or witchcraft or spells
just vampires.
Jacob is stupid! And Edward is mine!!!
Now, don't force it onto me that Harry Potter is the best, becuse my mom enjoys the seires. I enjoy the movies, even though I never go see them.
Twilight and Harry Potter shouldn't be in rivalry against each other. They are both decent books,(though neither claims my favorite). Both should do about the eqivalent of each other, because although their is a thrving Twilight fanbase, there is an equal Harry Potter fanbase. Harry Potter lures in both sexes and spreads widely beyond.
So, this will be an on-and-off race until the end. I can't wait to see who beats who.
I know I'll be seeing both.
Oh and Harry Potter sucks, so yeah.
Stephanie Meyer has to be one of the poetic writers i've ever come across. i love the way she made Bella's persective on life. and i think that Kristen Stewart will do an amazing job as playing Bella.
Edward again wow he's every girls dream guy and maybe even a few guys. i love how hes trying to do whats best for Bella although i was really upset when he left her in New Moon. I was uterly suprised when someone had told me they were making a movie i almost pee'd my pants i was so excited. and when i found out that Breaking Dawn was also being released. me and my friend are going to be camping outside Barnes and Noble on Aug. 2 just so we can get the forth book. This series has to be the most amazing, creative love story in history. and to think it all started out when Stephanie had a dream! I can't even begin to describe how this series has changed my thoughts on mythical creatures. theres not a doubt in my mind that people or things like this do exsits.
Simply put, everyone wants to feel this kind of love. The books create the feeling/desire to be a vampire to obtain that love and feel the same way the characters do.
I do think there is the potential for this series to get the same recognition as Harry Potter has. However, I do feel that the one thing this series has above and beyond Harry Potter is the realness of the characters and how we (as fans) can relate to them on a personal level. Harry Potter doesn't quite capture the audience in the same way.
I am really excited to see the movie and how the book is interpreted into film. I love the fact the actors have not had several major roles in other featured films. I think it will be a major hit and I wish them all the best of luck with their careers. I do hope that they consider making a film for the entire series.
Well thats all there is to say (right now), just remeber that Twilight is better than Harry Potter and will be the best movie ever. :-)
The only comparison that can be made of Twilight and HP is the fantasy aspect. And Robert Pattinson, of course. :] Anywhoo, they are totally different in every way. I honestly think Twilight is a better book because, simply, it caught my attention more. Sure, I've read all the HP books and I love them, but I don't have the same... 'sensation' (for lack of better words) that I get when I read Twilight. When I read Twilight, New Moon, or Eclipse... I honestly feel like I'm there. I feel the emotions that Bella feels, I see what she sees, I experience what she experiences. I don't get that when I read Harry Potter. I love them both though don't get me wrong-- but Twilight just caught my attention better.
So no, it really can't be the new Harry Potter, because they are nothing alike. But Twilight is better by a long shot.
I LOVE EDWARD!!!!! No other guy will ever be good enough for me!
If you haven't read this book I highly suggest you do before the movie comes out. It will have you that much more excited.
So to answer your question: No, Twillight will not be the next Harry Potter not even remtly close, for Twillight and Harry Potter are of no relevane. Also Twillght would and has greatly surpassed Harry Potter in all aspecs.
Sincerely,
Just Another Fan (F) X
p.s. And no I am not a "Know It All" I just have an extensive vocabulary and have a vast knowledge on the subject at hand.
Warning!: This book may make you fall in love with a fictional character! :D ~Edward For Eternity~
Sincerely,
Just Another Fan (F) X
p.s. And for those of yo who keep asking when the next book is coming out just wait a little bit try not to rush Mrs. Meyer while she is writing. Rushing equals bad quality things.
And yes I have read the books fifty times.
Sincerely,
Just Another Fan (F) X
p.s. And for those of yo who keep asking when the next book is coming out just wait a little bit try not to rush Mrs. Meyer while she is writing. Rushing equals bad quality things.
What I find a bit annoying is one poster named duca who said:
From what I’ve seen this thing is going the way of Eragon so perhaps you should more careful of who you hate on, k?
What, sir are your basis for such an early conclusion? Eragon? So you can come up with high praises for such movies as the summer blockbusters because you and everyone else knew already about the capabilites of big studios to promote them. So you are just trying to be on the safe side? How courageous! Have you even tried to get an idea of the book, the author or even the extent of the fansite?
Apparently, since you are used to the usual posts here about the big movies from big studios, featuring big stars, then you get annoyed and even surprised that there are 400+ comments coming from posters who was never here before and now you're reading them singing high praises to Twilight. Below your style perhaps?
I have no idea how old you are but when Star Wars was first launch in the 1970s, early reviews and comments about the movie are mostly negative.. But when it went to become a big box office hit, these critics suddenly changed their tunes. I am not comparing Star Wars with Twilight either before you hold that against me, it's just a comparison that suit best the kind of loyal readers at slashfilm, since Star Wars is apparently one of the top choices here.
There is one Twilight site that commands 30,000 unique visitors per day. The Twilight Lexicon and there are other great sites that showcase a lot of great info about the book and the movie= TwilightMoms, His Golden Eyes, Bella and Edward, Twilight dot Org, Crespulo and more than 70 other international sites. It would only be fair to at least try to visit one or two before making your judgment and start criticizing an upcoming movie and conclude that it will not make good box office.
The fans, many would be surprised, are a diverse bunch. Many of them are even top executives working for big multinational firms.
Finally, to the Phallic comment poster. There are readers here who are in the 12-16 age bracket, and also younger, how immature and inconsiderate of you to make such a comment. how sad...
The only let down that twilight might have is some of the stuff in the movie might not be exact and people who know the story will notice these things and might be just a little disappointed ex. roasalies care is aBMW NOT!!! a Mercedez, Bellas truck isnt even the right year, edwards care HELLO soppose to be 4 doors not 2!!!!
have no clue tht the books i read r popular b/c thy dont read
DEFINANTLY WAY BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER!!!!!!
As a lot of people have said, it's not just for teenage girls, though it's hard for me to deny it, being a 14-year-old girl myself. I have several friends who are into it, including a 15 y/o guy friend who wouldn't let me touch his practically-new triplets (Twilight, New Moon, & Eclipse). I know how he feels. I just ordered them off of the website (stepheniemeyer.com) and have them safely tucked in a drawer until I can get a bookshelf. The rest of the people I know who are into the series are indeed, teenage girls. But I'll be damned if I keep it there. I've told EVERYONE about the series.
Seeing all this action, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go back and read Twilight a lot more carefully. It didn't inspire as much feelings as New Moon and Eclipse did, and trust me, they're VERY good. In particular, New Moon made me very depressed through out the whole book, but I was rewarded in the end. And as for Eclipse, I laughed a lot, and screamed at the pages a lot as well.
I can't wait for Breaking Dawn. I've already decided to kill Stephenie if Edward and Bella don't get married (that's a joke), because I'm just itching for it. I'm on the edge of writing a fan fiction of Bella's experience becoming a vampire (which she hasn't yet) and I absolutely loathe Jacob Black. Which surprises me that Taylor's number one. Still hate the character.
And despite the fact that I'm officially "obsessed" with wolves, I have to say, vampires are a thousand times better than the werewolves. I'm already tempted to imprison myself more within my own mind and try to become one. My mother already told me I'd better not. But still..
Anyway, you get how I feel about the series. It's simply fantastic. These vampires are not what everyone thinks they are. Stephenie has created a whole new twist to the fantasy world, and I'm in love with it. Entirely. But it really stinks, because when you tell people, "Hey have you read Twilight? It's about vampires!" they immediately shy away from it. I know I did. Until a year later when I read the first chapter and couldn't put it down.
It's not just about vampires. At all. And even the vampires in it, don't remind me of the secular view of vampires. They're much more beautiful, much more...detailed and ingenious.
There have been a lot of things I've been waiting for this past year, but I have to say, the book in August and the movie in December beats all of them. I simply cannot wait, I'm to the point where I want to make my own movie and write my own conclusions to the series.
It's just that good.
GREAT JOB STEPHANIE!
So... you say that the Harry Potter series is idiotic. How interesting. I would like to ask (politely, of course) whether or not you have read very single one of the seven books. If you didn't, then who are you to judge a book series without reading every one? Harry Potter was very imaginative and fantastical, and many many people (me, included) think they are great books. So, you say Twilight is already bigger than Harry Potter. There I may disagree. You see, it's very common for people of the male variety to have read Harry Potter, while Twilight is seen as girly and off-limits to boys. BUT THEY LOVE IT! To the few guys I have met who read the book, it is sent from God! But my point is, it is usually reserved for females to read. Yes, it's a great books, but most males would rather read something more full of action and adventure. They don't know what they're missing! IF they read Twilight, the fan population would increase greatly and probably be just as large, if not larger, than that of Harry Potter.
So, there is my opinion. And if you would like to call me a know-it-all for correcting your mistakes, then be my guest.
~Aeriel
you were right about one thing.
we are a huge fan base.
(i think youre starting to get that)
just like most of the other fans ive read all 7 harry potters (multiple times) and the 3 twilight books (also multiple times).
and i think theres something you are missing about the twilight books and there fans: we are all emotionally invested. Where as in harry potter it was more detatched.
But everything Bella feels, we feel.
Dont get me wrong i love HP but......
Edward gives me hope (lol!)
oh and the fan base is massive. Over half of my senior class is reading or has read the books--several of them (including one of the schools hotties) has read them..........
you should read the books....bet youd like them....
my mom and my DAD did.
we love twilight...you should too.
It is the best series I have read, and trust me, I read the first 3 books of Harry Potter.
They are nothing compared to these...amazing books.
Stephanie Meyer is a true artist, and my only hope is that they will make the movie just like it was envisioned..
Unless, possibly, young children read the Twilight books and tell their mommies they want to sparkle like Edward.
Anyways, it always makes me laugh how people who have never heard of Twilight become amazed at how loyal the fans are. I hope for one that the movies are as successful as the books have been. But ultimately, it's about the books. If you see the movie and are inclined to read the story afterwards, then that's saying something. I loved Lord of the Rings, but I can tell you right now, you couldn't have paid me to pick up Tolkien. Stephenie Meyer, that's an entirely different story.
HP is good, but not as good as the twilight series!!!!
Thanks very much,
Aeriel
P.S.: Points to whoever knows what my name means!
Anyways, the statistics and all of that...I can see how it would be interesting to an outsider. But perhaps when you get swept up in the fandom of Twilight, you won't see it as so strange? I mean, look at the number of responses you received - is that proof enough?
I just wanted to commend you on this article - it took a lot of guts to publish this, and I think it's a honest query.
The comparison the Covenant. Yes, I can definitely see where people get that idea. A bunch of boys with super awesome powers defending a helpless girl, etc. etc. But I think people should keep an open mind, for indeed Twilight is not all about superhuman vampire boys.
As with Eragon. God I hope it doesn't become like that. I will say this without shame: the Eragon movie SUCKED. It was a dwarfed SHAME to the book, I think the only thing I liked about it was the baby Saphira. But I'm pretty confident Twilight won't end up like that.
For one, Stephenie has been on the set, and several behind the scenes pieces have made it to the public already.
And second, I just can't condemn a movie that soon. Although it is very nerve wracking with the idea that they might screw up, I still can't wait for it to come out.
So, first of all, I'm going to point out (from what I've seen) the things I like about it and think match up so far:
Edward Cullen: Robert Pattinson. Pretty damn good choice. Rob does in fact remind me of Edward in ways, though I could never really picture Edward anyway, perhaps because he's so perfect? The only thing I'm iffy about is the British accent amongst American ones. Hopefully it'll work out okay.
Bella Swan: Again, never really pictured her when reading the books, but Kristin Stewart seems like a good choice for me. She had a great character in The Messengers, and the car ride in that movie reminds me a lot of our little Bells when moving to Forks anyway. She'll be good.
Alice Cullen: Ooh I have to admit, she does fit the personality well. In the interview, she's sweet! The kind of girl I would hang out with. When I first read the book, I pictured Alice as a little skinny pale chick with very very short spiky black hair. But this choice for actress fits well. I like it!
Emmett: Holy crap, what can I say? Perfect.
Rosalie: Again, good choice. Nikki is gorgeous! But I can't put a face on the "prettiest person alive" anyway.
Jasper: Hm...Maybe it's just the out of character interviews that are getting to me, but I'm not so sure about him. We'll see though.
Carlisle: Never paid much attention to him. Seems to fit though.
Esme: Same.
James: Very very good example, I like it.
Victoria: Her looks match perfect, but Stephenie put a lot of emphasis on her voice in Eclipse, which worries me for her future speaking roles. She is described as having a high pitched, babyish sort of voice - not at all like Rachelle.
Laurent: First things first. This guy is awesome. In the MTV exclusive, I'm dying to meet him. However, one thing screams a huge NO at me: the vampires are described as pale, almost translucent to the skin. I haven't read back through Twilight, as I said, but I didn't see Laurent as african american. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll do absolutely PERFECT, and if I had heard of a black vampire, he would've been my first choice. The dude rocks!
Charlie: yahyah
Jacob: We'll see.
Yeah you get the point.
Now, as for the setting. I think Portland works well. The scenes I saw in the ballet studio with the fight seemed to fit, though I don't remember the vampires flying around all Matrix-like. A little imagination couldn't hurt? The forest is good, I hope they can get the beach/cliff scenes in well. I saw some great pictures of La Push, but I'm not sure if anything near Portland will fit that.
The effects. Haven't seen much about them yet, but they seem very sufficient. And as far as leaving out material? Their in the second month of filming (am I right?) and I've seen a lot/read a lot/heard a lot about the different scenes. Doesn't seem like they're keeping out anything so far!
I don't think there's much to worry about with the movie. I'm pretty sure it'll go well.
They're are a good Fantasy read that takes you away from the problems of the world when you need a break and a great new take on the world of Vampires.
TO LET ALL KNOW OF YOU HAVE NOT READ TWILIGHT I TELL YOU TO READ IT NOW! YOU WILL BE HOOKED! YOU CAN EVEN TAKE A GLIMPSE AT SOME OF THE FANS OF TWILIGHT AT
Yes, Twilight will become the next big fantasy film.
Only because that's just the way it is.
I've stated before that I love Harry Potter, but because the series is finished I read Twilight and now I love it. But in a couple years another book will be noticed and then everyone will start making assumptions about it as well and maybe compare it to Twilight;
Who knows?
There will always be an endless chain reaction.
Sadly, we all move on to other books even if we've once said that WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, it does.
I've read all three more than once and i'm still reading..i've already read twilight 5 times. Im glad to see that twilight is getting some attention and i hope the movie is gonna be good..probably not as good as the book though.
I'm very excited for the movie! I think it's going to be great and the critics who dislike the thought of the trilogies achieving a movie, will probably be the first ones in line to go see it.
Funny how that works.
www.fanfiction.net
best website ever made!! and telling you all GO READ TWILIGHT I was a person Who HATED reading till I read Twilight and now i cant live with out books!
and I truly do beleave that Twilight will be much better than harry potter!
even go look at debates on youtube on what one is better!!! and whao would win in a fight!!
Edward or harry! And to tet you know some guy with a stick is not going to win if facing a Vampire! and that goes dubble for Edward! he could beat him with his eyes closed and hands behind his back!
The fans definitely are well.....obsessed? well, at least I am.
All Twilight fans, if you have any icons for Twlight email me then! pandas_05@yahoo.com
Yes Harry Potter and twilight are big (I am a HUGE fan of both) but they are really nothing alike.
PLEASE if you haven't read these books yet from all the many comments, I suggest that you do. They really are amazing. (and don't just take that from a teenage girl view) I know many boys, old people, and weirdos who have read twilight.
Even my sister who absolutely DESPISES to read has read twilight and said it was not half bad.
Actually there is a huge fan craze for twilight and I actually do think it is bigger and better than harry potter. (take into consideration I am a huge hp fan I have read all of them 7 times and get the books the day they come out) but I actually do believe that the twilight series is better.
As for the huge search ratings the reason why Taylor was #1 was because no one really knew who he was, also everyone thought that Steven Strait would be the role of Jacob. I hope this helps you.
Seeing all the many comments I'm pretty sure your going to read the book now. Best of luck!
AUGUST IS TOO LONG TO WAIT!!!
i luv twilight! =)
GO VAMPIES!!! RA RA RA!!!!!
*plays superman song in background for Edward*
i know, i know, i have OECD! O.bsessive E.dward C.ullen D.isorder
but oh well!!!! :D
I think they are both great, I was a big fan of Harry Potter (I still are) but since I discovered Twlight it became my favourite book I don´t think Harry Potter is that great.
The only sad thing about this is that Robert Pattinson doesn´t fit in Edward´s character ... if it weren´t for him, the movie would be great too. I don´t really know what to expect from it.
I was completely aware of the books when the first just came out, but didn't take notice of it. Then all of a sudden i come back from winter break last decemember and it was all everyone(girls) in my school were talking about.
It was like overnight fame.
I do hope that the covenant and Twilight have something in common. Taylor is great but i hope for the second half of New Moon -which is in talks to start filming in Dec.- Steven Strait is used to play Jacob Black...they have similar features so i hope he gets chosen.
Hmm lets go make those digits on the starmeter a little bigger shall we?
I see you misinterpreted a comment I made about Eragon. I also see you didn't read my other posts. In a different post I mentioned how I like Eragon. I read it because I like books like that, and hot boys and dragons. Yippie me.
I made said comment because I watched the featuerette and was not that impressed with what I saw. I was also rather angry at the overzealous fans and was attempting to defend the author of the article from flaming. I had stated in the post that they shouldn't treat a prominent movie blogger with such hate, because they needed positive PR, which this article was. The more positive PR the better, right? Thus they shouldn't hate on the author. I'm sure they would love mainstream success, and obviously there isn't the kind of budget behind the movie to have a advertising campaign like Indiana Jones. That makes this kind of review all the more important.
I don't believe this series is "bellow me" I'm annoyed by spam and mass stupidity. If a comment does not contribute to debate or discussion, then it's spam. It's been proven that there is a following for this series. That was never up for debate. Obviously people enjoy it. I am simply of the belief that this type of behavior by a group actually turns people off from a series.
And the penis joke was funny.
WHOEVER, boy or girl or grandmaw or dad or mother, who hasn't read it should, because its a great book.
i am in love with the whole book. but i don't think erik fits his description. Oh Well. . . i can't wait for breaking dawn to come out!!!! Stephenie please hurry to bring Breaking Dawn out PLEASE!!!!!
One more thing...just reffering to the article, i think that twilight is good for both boys and girls. I mean, my cousin (whose a guy), whos 17 and watches wrestling like ALL the time loved this book. Hes not at all the fan that my other cousin (a girl) and i are, but he still loved the books. I think that what most people dont understand is that this book is like so much more than a love story, and theres tons of action to keep you sucked into it. (also just wanted to add that when my friend recommended it to me and told me what it was about, i thought it sounded really kind of stupid. but i gave it a try and i love it! all im saying is that i think more poeple should give this book a chance)
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE 11-21-08 =))))))))
and cant wait for the new ones. i too think it will kick harry potters
butt in the long run, serioulsy i couldnt get past the first chapter
in the sorcerors stone(sorry for the spelling hp fans) it didnt grab
my attention. ill admit twilight started off slow but my best friend
read it and coax me into it and half way through the first chapter,
i couldnt put it down....so yea thats what ive got to say!!!
long live edward(haha) whoo i love that guy!!! plus its really
sad when u fall in love with a fictional charater....oh well, but who
can blame me every girl who read the book did....ok now thats it
bye!!
I had to give the book a chance. So all the Twilight haters you can't bash down a book or movie that you haven't ever laid eyes on. Give it a chance. The people that say this book is horrible and have no care for it, it makes me laugh that you took the time out of your day to comment on it. Why do that if you don't care?
Anyways, i love the books, i think Stephanie Meyer is amazing and such a great writer, and cannot wait untill December to see the movie. I'm sure it will be a hit. (-:
well yes it will be just like harry potter and narnia.
Most guys don't want to read it because they think it a chick book or like what my boyfriend calls it "it's a cult."
but there are lots of guys who read the book.
i know of about 10 guys who have read all 3, not including my boyfriend.
Even people who have suprisingly NEVER seen, heard, or read the book,
and see the upcoming movie will LOVE it. It's beyond the world of Harry Potter.
You can actually relate to the characters in the story,
It's WAY more realistic than HP.
Unlike in Harry Potter. - by the way I dont mean to insult any fan out there,
because I am an HP fan myself- but Twilight is really an addicting book.
And I am completely and irrevocably in love iwth the whole series.
Sorry HP, I Now have officially dumped you for Edward Cullen .
=S =]
Sincerely,
A true "Twilighter"
My random feeling on the movie: First off id like to say im a guy and really love these books second it really saddens me that such a great book is being made into a movie. I mean when i first read the books i thought they would be great for a movie but then i though about it more and realized no one would ever really look like the person in my head and i didnt want that ruined. But when i found out it was being made into a movie i was like WOW. i wondered who was going to play who. I was fine with who everyone was being played by but when they cast the kid who plays sharkboy as Jacob Black my favorite character i lost it. Im still going to see the movie...and yell cruel thing at the screen...i did it with the harry potter films.
As an 8th grade teacher, I know the power of literature and Stephenie Meyer has drawn in readers, boys and girls alike. My students love her books. They are the ones who told me I had to read them. I read the first one on a plane, and spent the next 3 days reading the next two books. I'm hooked. A die hard fan. And, I have other "older" women who too love the book. I've even joined the site www.twilightmoms.com. It's a growing obsession I am proud to be in.
I applaud any author who can turn a non-reader into a reader. But, I love Meyer and hold her work dear to my heart as well!
o i remeber the day of just trying to take up a new hobbie and read a book , picking twilight was just fate and i have loved it ever since
i am a ancient twilight fan as i say because i didnt just start reading it like last year or this year and now lucky people they dont have to wait for a movie like i had to or wait for the last 2 books to come out...i did, it sucked but not the point
the charachters or at least a few i saw in the movie are no what i expected after 3 years of twilight ;[ i am somewhat dissapointed and hope their acting skills can make up for it
science fiction, not realistic fiction but just plain FICTION. Also
this book is amazing, no matter the genre confusion, and i am hopelessly addicted, and i dont plan on breaking that addiction
any time soon.
i've never read something like this
they are amazing
PS Edward is MINE.
As for the comparison between Harry Potter and Twilight, I have read both series so many times I have lost count. Both have depth (though of varying degree) and are very popular. I disagree with the statements that Twilight is merely "fluff" reading; have those who stated this seen the many speculations, theories, and fan fictions about Breaking Dawn? Of course, there are not as many nuances in the Twilight series as Harry Potter, but that is not detrimental to its literary value. Also, about the comments that talk about the short-lived popularity of Eclipse and total number of books sold; let's compare the number of books in the series themselves. 7 Harry Potter books versus 3 Twilight books...hmmm. Of course the Harry Potter books would have a higher number in sales; there are more books to buy (not to mention that they have been out longer, and have gained more momentum).
The comments about teenage girls and the other age groups I will let pass. :)
I must say, I am ashamed of the Twilight fanbase for behaving so rudely to those who are not as happily obsessed as we are. It's not their fault, and you shouldn't drive them away because they don't keep up with every single fantastic book.
I realize that this is a website about movies, and I mostly talked about books, but I simply could not resist the urge to reply to all of the ignorant comments, from readers of Twilight as well as those who are not. I only ask all to keep their heads on, don't try to take anyone else's head off, and please use proper punctuation and grammar when at all possible. :)
OMG 101 DAYS TILL BREAKING DAWN!!!
when i saw that Robert was playing Edward, i almost started crying, but he it totally growing on me, and as i have watched him on MTV.com i realized that i freaking love him, He is going to be amazing!!!! :D LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
Okay confession time, yes I am a teen girl, yes I am obsessed with the books, it doesn't mean that we are the only ones. I know this has already been mentioned but please, TwilightMoms are huge.
Thanks for the recognition, I think it's awesome that there is more media covering Twilight ^_^ It's awesome. It'll be even bigger now.
Please though, don't hate the movie until you see it, don't hate the book until you read it, if you prejudge things you can miss out on a lot of fun times!
Sincerly,
A broad minded girl
~Aeriel
Sure we maybe teens but all the adults I have recommended it too (quite a few) have read the whole series in less then a week.
If a mediocre righter uses the word inconsequential on the first page. Stephenie Meyer's writing has a beautiful flow and NO RUN ON SENTENCES!!
So what if Twilight is classified as a YA novel... have you checked where Harry Pottter is? last time I checked it was with the 9-12 section at INDIGO(lol go Canada)
Ohh and has anyone besides myself noticed how big a snob JK Rowling is, i mean have you been to her website???? STephenie Meyer is always mentioning her fans and giving us information.
And i will now end my rant (lol that felt good) Just remember that the Harry Potter fans are just jealous the Twilight is crushing them AND were going to get a better movie =) xD
CONCLUSION: TWILIGHT WON'T BE THE NEXT HARRY POTTER, BECAUSE THE CAN'T BE COMPARED...SORRY HP.. BUT TWILIGHT ROCKS A 10000000000000 TIMES MORE..TWILIGHT WILL BE THE MOST WONDERFUL, SUCCESSFUL FANTASY FRANCHISE EVER!!!!!
I realize people ae wasting their time reading the hundreds of comments on this page, but I just can't help spilling everything out. I hope this comment (which I intend to make the longest comment on the page) stands out, so that anyone that doesn't know much about Twilight series.
Twilight is as of now, a trilogy, but in August 2008, the fourth book comes out. The other two books, New Moon and Eclipse, are just as good as Twlight in my opinion. New Moon has very sad parts in it, but ends as well as it could possibly end. Eclipse is also full of emotion.
I know that by reading the above article, a person would want to read the Twilight series, understandably. You will not be dissatisfied. And I wish not to mention anything considered a spoiler in this comment. So, here goes:
Twilight is about the unbreakable love of a 17 year old girl and 100-year old male vampire. This girl, Isabella Swan, is from a hot, dry climate, and chose to live with her father in a wet, cold place. She loathes the place until she meets a classmate at her new school; Edward Cullen, one of five adopted "teenagers" of Carlisle and Esme Cullen. The differences between Edward and Bella couldn't have made such a wider gap: Bells is clumsy, uncoordinated, looks completely ordinary, and loathes blood. Edward is inhumanly strong, fast, beyond the most handsome person Bella had ever seen, and craes for blood, especially human blood. Their are numerous differences, and a wonder if this was done purposely by Meyer.
Anyway, the novels are about the potentially fatal problems associated with being madly, irreversibly in love with a vampire. Along the way, Bella's love for Edward and vice versa strengthen with every catostophic event they undergo together. The superhuman fiction thriller is mixed with romance and even very normal girl life.
Meyer does a good job of transporting her readers into the scenes in her book. When I read them over and over again, I learn and comprehend more. Once you grasp every word of the novel, you finally feel like you understand, like everything just "clicks" into place in your head. Book after book, it feels truly like just one long, fascinatingl, never ending adventure. I truly and sincerely hope Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series will be as widespread as Harry Potter (I've never even read the book) so that I may share insightful discussion with girls my age that also have been bitten by the Cullens, Swans, Blacks, and Vulturi.
If whoever would like more information concerning everything Stephenie, stepheniemeyer.com is the place to go now! This comment is just an opinion of a thirteen year old girl who really loves the Twilight series. To know Stephenie Meyer's own views of her novels, her official website mentioned above is set up by her brother, and features many articles written with heart by Meyer.
Again, I want to praise Stephenie for her marvelous works, congragulate her for her outstading and sudden success, and wish her more glorious writings to come!
I'm waiting for them!
-Sherry
till breaking dawn comes out. I think Stephanie Meyer might really surprise us. But anyone who hasnt read it yet. should read it. I recommend it =)
And KIM These books are not just for teenage gushy romance. Yes there is romance, but look at all the action, and it is much more grown up then HP ever was. + And hotter
P.S. Robert Pattinson is such a better actor than Daniel Radcliff its not even funny. In fact it's kind of pitiful.
i heart twilight!!!
Harry Potter, I think it will be much, much, much, better than
Harry Potter.
By the way, I hate how people who HAVEN'T ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK judging and assuming about it, because a) you're probably wrong, and b) you're just making yourself look dumb because of your ignorance. Okay, so I can understand if people hate it after they've read it, but you just can't brush THIS off without even taking a peak at it and saying it sucks or you hate it or you're making really dumb assumptions. Ignorance doesn't do you good. Go read the book. Do your RESEARCH! Please and thank you.
twilight is beter then harry poter!
I have read the series five times and counting, so what does that say? And to all these people who think that all these teenage girls are posting fake comments really needs to understand our obsession with these books.
~izzi
and now twilight isnt going to be the next harry potter IT"S GOING TO BE BETTER!
and no twilight isnt going to be the next harry potter IT"S GOING TO BE BETTER!
Honestly i don't mind if people have even just started reading the series recently, but for those who have never even heard of it 'til today and decided to do a "little" bit of reseach on it so they can seem like they actually care and or know anything about this series, they should really try appriciate those of us that actually hope for an on going success of Stephenie Meyer and attempt to read the books before judging them.
However believe it or not boys are just attracted to the novels as the girls are. It's like a secret weapon. They get to read from a girls point of you and see into her mind, her insecurities, her confidence, what she really wants. This novel has shaped many people to become what they dream of. There is no doubt that these novels has affected my life. I've read the series 3 times and the Second novel 6 times alone just because it sucks my into someone else's shoes. Though they are ficitional characters they go things we go through everyday.
My opinion, this will blast Harry Potter out of the Box Office.
How can you people not know what twilight is? Do you read books at all? Twilight is only the most AWESOME series on the planet!!!
I hate the guy who plays Jacob because Jacob is a decieving, lying little CHEAT. Edward Cullen is WAAAAAAY better. If you haven't read the series, then just keep on mind: JACOB BLACK IS A LYING LITTLE SNEAK AND IS HATED BY 39 OUT OF 40 PEOPLE!!!
I look up Robert Pattinson so much more than the guy who plays Jacob. I feel sorry for that guy who is hated by so many people.
EDWARD CULLEN ROCKS!!!
If you haven't read the book YOU SHOULD READ IT !!! I strongly reccomend it (and millions of other people)
NO FANGS HERE!!! Only super-hot perfectly-perfect vampires!!!
(oh, and some humans)
-Bri
But I do agree with everyone who says Twilight and Harry Potter are nothing alike. They both may be fantasy books, but they each attract readers for different reasons, use the emotions and actions of the characters differently, etc. I hope people will stop comparing Harry Potter and Twilight. (I'm not saying that I prefer one book/movie over the other, I actually enjoy both)
i loove the books! i hope the movie is just as good!
And I really don't have to go on about how great it is because the other 600 people that commented already said it.
But I am honestly almost not ready to see the movie. What if the movie doesn't live up to the book?
I have loved this book and I suggested it to all of my teenage girl friends. Whenever people compare Twilight with Harry Potter people kind of get the wrong idea about the book. Harry Potter is aimed towards a large variety of people (mostly only nerds read the books and are totally obsessed with Harry Potter) but Twilight is for any teenage girl nerdy or popular because all of the girls like to imagine themselves as Bella who has captured the heart of a totally hot vampire. I consider Twilight a romance and if any girl is looking for the thought of a perfect man, you should read and see Twilight.
I havn't read any of the Harry Potter books, but I've heard they're good-- and I believe it!-- but Twilight it spreading like a disease; it's sooooo unbelievable addictive.
Lots of claps to Stephenie-- she's a genius. I'd totally give her my college fund if I could ;)
So, yes, I'm obsessed with Twilight, too. The movie is looking to be great-- but the more close to the movie it is the better it will be (just letting the movie-makers know...). I think they did a marvelous job picking the actors and actresses for it, so I hope it owns up.
By the way-- Edward Cullen is my fiancee now... (haha I wish)
So it is a great book for all ages. Not limited to the YA.
Twilight bigger than HP?
- Most Definitely.
And to tell you the truth I read the preface and loved it, but when i got to the first chapter I was furious. "WHY DIDN'T ANYONE DIE COME ON... NOW I HAVE TO WAIT THROUGH THE WHOLE BOOK?!?" That is pretty much how i felt. So I quit reading it for about a week thinking "this book is dumb. It will NEVER be as cool as HP
Well eventually my friend convinced me that it would get better... and boy was that an understatement! This series has got to be the best group of books I have ever read, and now I am more obsessed about these books than anyone I know. I'm even making my own T-shirts
BTW-There is NO comparison. Twilight pones HP. TWILIGHT FOR ETERNITY!
I do have to agree with other commenters though. Before you write an article, check your source. There is a large fanbase of mothers and guys and people just about every age. It goes all over the world too. I understand that some people haven't read the books, but to have never heard of it? As a teenage girl *sarcastic comment ahead* (since we're the only fanbase on the face of the earth), you ought to have seen at least ONE of the kids at your school with the book. But still... now you've heard of it. So go read it, and if you hate it you can come tell us how much you hate it. Don't show us how igrnorant you are by bashing the book before you REALLY know what it's about.
Also who says twilight won't be around for a 100 years... look at Wuthering Heights and pride and predjudice... very comparible love stories to twilight
so would everyone just stop being prejudice!!
BTW have you noticed how people have stopped trying to dump on twilight and have left us alone to rant?
TWILIGHT TOTALLY OWNSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TWILIGHT!

R.I.P Here Lies Harry Potter...
NOTE* Harry Potter should be even lower on my chart, but I have not the time to move it any further, though the pit of this message is where it belongs.
They are both really good books though, but Twilight is the only book that I actually was drawn to before there was a movie coming out. and also plz don't say that is has anything to do with HIgh School Musical Because that movie was stupid and cheesy and i think it is stupid
(Steven Strait willl always be the best for Jacob)
^,..,^
Twilight is completely amazing, there are no flaws whatsoever. So, before you decide to trash something, actually read it before forming an opinion about its fans. For one, people seem to think that if you love Twilight then you're some sort of an airhead, which is NOT the case at all. Twilight is my escape from the real world for a few hours. Sometimes fantasy is better than reality.
As for the ENTIRE range of fans being teenage girls, this is wrong too. My mother and my friend's mother both read all three books and loved them.
So, lets let Harry Potter and Twilight both be seen as great and captivating books; however, true readers of both series know that nothing will ever top HP! woo!
yes.
and wow. this article has gotten a ton of abuse it seems, and i dont quite see exactly why..... i mean, well, at least you spelled the authors name correctly........ thats a big step apparently for some. i agree with stephenie meyer, "Let's make love, not war :)"
and again wow. amazing numbers. but i gotta say that taylor luther is at that point because he is the newest and every twilighter is looking him up at the moment, but even still!! yay! >.
thanks you Stephenie Meyer for your contribution to the literary world, and thank goodness for people who love the books as much as i do and more. See you all December 12th!
I believe that they are both wonderful book series and stunning authors but Stephenie's books tap into the sexuality in all of us. Wether guy, girl, teen, mom, dad, whoever.
I think the movie will totally steal Harry Potter's thunder in the box office though you can count on seeing me there at both of the premeirs.
Yours truely,
Monty
Now all the girls in year 7 8 9 and 10 (even some of the boys) have or are reading it because i told all my friends about it and they all love it too.
We have even started a I LOVE STEPHANIE MEYER lunch time club and we have 36 members.
We also desided that we will all pitch in and go see the move together and then write a letter to Stephanie Meyer to tell her what we thought of it.
To the girl named Katey; Me and my friends are doing the SAME thing.
I can't wait for it!
But that's my personal opinion and No Twilight is going to be the next TWILIGHT...
I also dont think Harry Potter will be like it, just maybe the amount of fans. Im not a huge fan of Harry Potter so I cant really say.
Im just hopeing the movie is good.
=)
I do agree that we are mostly a female audience... it is a LOVE story after all....I hate that it is considered mostly a teen audience, though I see why it gets that... but obviously there are much older fans of Stephanie Meyer and her world she has created in Forks, Washington... Yes there is a Stephenie Meyer DAY in the real Forks, Washington now... it is like a holiday!
I think this movie will be LOVED by fans of the book...I hope that some who are just interested in what all the fuss is about will try reading the books though, at least the first one... cause the movie is going to be much different than the book. I'm still EXCITED for the movie and will probably see it multiple times (wow haven't done that since high school) and force my husband to come with me, and whoever else I can drag along...
So whoo hoo! Go Twilight publicity!
I'm glad we can have a decent discussion and debate on issues without having to bother with insults and innuendoes.
Re: your conclusion that while Eragon can convincingly showed that it has also a huge following but bombed at the box office and that watching a featurette would be enough basis to judge the Twilight movie in terms of its box office appeal- well, I find the only basis of your judgment quite questionable, even surprising for someone who appears to be quite a discriminating film goer, or perhaps like some film critic, you can write a 500-page critical analysis of a movie based on a 5-minute trailer? Eragon, admittedly is a fine book, as I also read it, but the problem with the movie adaptation is the direction and other aspects of the film, which never worked together as it should ideally. Some of the supporting actors even hated their characters because they got a lousy script and an incompentent director. There are of course other factors that brought about its lack of box office appeal, aside from the lead who definitely is not star-quality. No one even knows his name now right?
UCLA film graduate Catherine Hardwicke is Twilight's director, quite a fab chick if you asked me. Winning in Sundance for her first movie. that would be one big sign that yeah, this movie might be quite promising. The stars too, Kristen Stewart, I think she's known to you already, Into the Wild...Sean Pean, Emile Hirsch.... then Yellow Handkerchief... and the fan's obsession Robert Pattinson. Here's a link to my article:
http://themovie-fanatic.com/exclusive_articles/...
Also, Summit Entertainment a new company that people, even those who seemed to be quite updated with the latest in Hollywood, is (surprisingly) an unknown. But they have been quite relentless in providing the support for the movie.
Annoying or even maddening some of the Twilight fans maybe, as a lot of them seem to like repeating themselves over and over that if i may borrow, can make anyone puke! Slashfilm have been adamant is saying that most of Twilight readers are young, teenage girls- so it's quite simply a logical conclusion that many would behave like 'normal teenage girls'. If you like the comment regarding the male organ, then some might even enjoy these giggly, childish commentaries too. To each his own right?
Considering how many people have read the books and are waiting impatiently for the movie there's a really slim chance that the movie will be a flop but I have a few doubts that it will be bigger than Harry Potter but, prove me wrong! Also these books kicked Harry Potter off the list after the HP series had ended and the whole 'HP-Craze' had died down a bit.
Stephenie Meyer has reinvented vampires and has created this whole new cult following for them (I say this from my experience I have friends who WANT to be vampires now). Does anyone think the movie will attract all those old Buffy fans there seems to be a link between the two (you vampire trying to be good, forbidden love, etc.) ?
personaly, I adored the books.
it's almost as if they take you to a different world, into someone else's head, you get swept up in the story and the characters. by the time you finish you want to know more, not even nessisarily about the story, but the characters. more of who they are, what they think, and feel.
I'm not sure about the movie though. many times when you read a book it comes out like a fantastic movie in your head, so often times the real thing is just a sad disapointment.
and by the way the people at summit entertainment are working their butts off trying to make a good movie. it takes some courage to take on a challenge like this when twilight has such a huge fanbase....
chill out!
I'm a die-hard twilight fan, read all 3 books, can memorize them almost and pre-ordered the 4th book + The Host already.
I'd love love love to meet Stephenie. She's such a great writer.
The movie looks so good, I can't wait to see it.
May, August, and december.
3 months I can't wait till.
I would compare it to Harry Potter, but only because both books have crossed over to all ages and genders and taken on a life of their own. I think Twilight fans are more, well, obsessive about the books (myself included). The same way that HP got children to read more, Twilight got EVERYONE to read more. I can't tell you how many people have told me that they never used to read much until they read Twilight, now they can't read enough. It has caused an explosion in the Young Adult book world, and it's not just teens who are reading these books.
I do predict that Twilight will make more money than HP at the box office. At least I hope so.
DIFFERENT!
And really if you want to say that Twilight is only aimed towards teens, then you have to say the same thing about Harry Potter! It might be published under one genera, but can still be enjoyable between all ages and genders.
Also, on a side note, lets refrain from judging the movie until its actually been released, because I haven't seen the movie and YOU haven't seen the movie ^_^
So shut up please!
Also, to those who wonder how the Twilight cast could possibly be some of the most searched stars on the internet, just look at how many comments there are here! It's obvious how popular the series it.
PS. I'm guilty of searching most of the cast several times every couple weeks for the past few months. I even searched Taylor Lautner multiple times the day he was announced to be playing Jacob!
(Crazy, I know. But what can I say? I can't help but love the story)
Also, to those who wonder how the Twilight cast could possibly be some of the most searched stars on the internet, just look at how many comments there are here! It's obvious how popular the series it.

TWILIGHT KICKS HP's ASS!
the books are addicting and you literally can't put them down, and you read them over and over and over again.
the movie is either going to be really good or really bad depending on how they do it. it depends on how true they are to the books.
IT IS THE BEST SERIES EVER!!!
WAY BETTER THAN HP.
i was just reading the rest of that series (hp) outta obligation by the end cuz i had already started the series.
twilight is engaging from cover to cover. so is new moon and eclipse!
(clever name though, eh?)
Sorry for ranting, I'm sure no one read through this entire thing. But I just really love the books. :]
In my opinion we shouldn't judge the movie just yet. So please save your criticisms 'till after you've actuall watched the movie.
By the way, i really loved how HP ended. I just know breaking dawn will totally rock too!! More power to Stephenie Meyer, the makers of the movie, and of course to us loving and gorgeous fans. I can't wait to see the movie and the next book!
tee-hee =)
P.S. I don't think I've ever loved a book series this much~~~ XD
I reckon the star rate is real, coz i kno that after I read the book, I start researching for the cast of twilight like nearly every single day.. n also checking up the twilight movie's progress every single day.. it's like a habit that i can't live without now..
Not to mention how many people are just going to watch the movie and then flood fanfictions on ever site with whatever was in the movies that may be incorrect. I swear if they don't sparkle I'm going to stab someone...
I'm 16, by the way, and needless to say, I am very much in love with the books. You'll have to read it to find out why, though. Also, let me tell you that no matter how much the movie will make or how big a hit it will be...that reading the actual book opens you to a NEW world, MUCH MUCH better than the movie.
As for comparing it to HP, I am thrilled from my head to my toes that Twilight is going to be HUGE, but comparing it to HP -the story and not how much a big moneymaker it is- is just not acceptable. Each awesome book is different. Characters, plots, settings...everything. But moreover, each one opens you to a different pair of eyes and a different way of thinking. As fantasy books open you to a world beyond your own. Now who won't be fascinated with that kind of opportunity?
Oh, almost forgot, don't write an article if you don't have that much information. It's basically just like saying that something exists when you don't have much to hold a passable theory.
Twilighters ROCK! :D
I am absolutely obsessed with twilight, New moon, Eclipse and yes.. i do think it is better than harry potter. I have nothing againgst harry, i love the potter books as well.. i just think Twilight is more... not interesting but... well ok im hopeless with romance :) But they are quite different books so they don't really have many comparisons.
I have searched all the actors plenty of times (especially taylor:)) and i check stepheniemeyer.com for updates at least 4 times a day... I think all the actors are great and can't wait for the movie..or breaking dawn for that matter... when the special edition of eclipse comes out i am buying it straight away and reading the first chapter before i have even left the shop!!!!!
By the way I
'By the way I
Long story short, I'd pick Twilight over Harry any day.
4 now NED..PEACE OUT CUB SCOUT
P.S.I apologize too errors:(
I think these books can appeal to any age group. I also love Harry Potter and I am getting sick of people trying to compare the two, they are so different.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!
Twilight is so gonna KICK Harry Potter's butt!!!!!!!!
Cause all they got is stinking BROOMS!!!!!
And Edward's got FANGS!!!
GO TWILIGHT!!!!!
And yes, I do fit the stereotypes of teenage girl obsessing over Twilight!!!
Cause it's the best book EVER!!!!
And the movie will be WAY better than HP!!!
YEAH!!!!!!
ok, i'm done now.
GO TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
ok, NOW i'm done. cause i gotta go to school! lol :)
****Bella merry HIM befor i kill someone
I know most of my friends here love the series. I know a few guys who read it and they reakky enjoyed it. Even my grandpa and aunts are reading it since I am constantly talking about how awesome they are.
It will be bigger than potter. It's coming out two weeks after harry potter and I am sure it will do extreamly well. it's already higher up on the charts.
These books will deffinitely rival HP, but Harry Potter has been around since the '90s, so of course it will be more well known around the U.S, but Twilight's fame shot up ever since the first book was published! So, depending if you are more of a Twilight fan or a HP fanatic, this arguement could go either way.
Although, I do think Twilight will knock Harry Potter off the number one list on the box office maybe a week after it it released!!!! So, Twilight will be more famous than HP and the Half Blooded Prince, and depending when Hp and the Deathly Hallows and New Moon release, Hp will be more famous (then again, Deathly Hallows is being released in two parts so.........)
My impacience for the release of Breaking Dawn is unbearable!
Though the twilight series is spectacularly amazing i aM ALSO impaciently waitng for The Host soon top be released in May. CANT WAIT!!!
When it comes to the movies Harry Potter HBP will immediately sweep the no. 1 spot for up to five weeks after its release. As an avid fan of those books i plan on seeing that movie several times.
Twilight will be a dark horse second place. It will bve severly popular in the United States. I believe once the first movie reaches out to all audences, later movies will appeal farther and beyond all expectations. Popularity will soar like after the Pirates of the Carribean release. Twilight will be just as good as Harry Potter!
But I´ve got a question:
Who the hell is Harry Potter??? I think no one will be interested in him when TWILIGHT is released in Dec. (If you don´t believe in me, have a look at the bestselling list...)
I LOVE EDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm lovin' it!
harry potter.
we are watting the 4 book anshiously and the movie.
the first chapter of mide night sun is so fun tu lise haw he files hahahaha.
all our friend have read it to and are obsesd with it like us.
we will really like to say that you made an awesome book and you made lots of people that didn't like reading like it like me .
be the next orange...
its right, both are fantasy, but thats all!
this question is the most stupid question
ever heard.
what do you do with all those answers?
sitting at home and laughing about all
this fans that loved the story and fight
against your opinion???
i hope you enjoy your blog getting fuller...
thats all want you want, i think
Also I am a huge harry potter fan as well, and me personally would never compare the two books together, they are nothing alike. And i like Twilight much better.
Another thing i would like to point out is that this book is not just for "girls" I know a few guys who absolutely love the book
I have to say though, that between both, I am more anxious for the Twilight movei and Breaking dawn. And it doesn't compare to Harry Potter. I would give Harry Pooter 10/10 and twilight 20/10 The twilight series are definitely in a better league than Harry Potter (still a huge fan though ^_^)
In my opinion, the quality of the HP movies sucked really bad. I think twilight can do so much better. I'm still a fan of HP books, but i sure that i was nvr as crazy about HP as i am about twilight. It will so win at the box office.
Cold is the new Hot
all thanks to edward cullen:)
December HOnestly cant come fast enogh
CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought reporters were supposed to be a bit more objective---and, oh--what's that thing called? Oh--RESEARCH!!! That's right. Don't reporters/columists do a little of that now and again? I guess not.
¿la pelÃÂcula de twilight ya esta hecha? me gustaria saber donde la puedo encontrar. gracias!!
I LOVE ROBERT PATTINSON!
qué tiene de malo que jacob sea negro???en el libro lo describió como que era moreno.
~ Sylvia Maisonet
The casting was all wrong in my opinion...these actors are nowhere near as beautiful as they should be...
And I really hate the fact that the writer is the writer of the OC. Does that say something?
And are they really trying to make this movie THAT politically correct? Since when is Laurent BLACK? I don't see why they can't just follow the book...I know I won't be seeing it. This movie's going to be a huuuge flop haha.
Like I said before I hope she makes a fourth and final book on what Isabella Swan is going through and if her life is still unlucky and is her love life finally spicying up a bit. details details please Stephanie Meyer write another one please please please....
A book for all ages..
A book for all genders
An awesome book written by honorably respected, Stephenie Meyer who awed or should I say inspired 99% out of 100% of girls all over the world with her absolutely brilliant storyline.
Teenage girls like me do enjoy reading books that capture our interest more than anything else.
a book that can bring us from the reality world to the fantasy world yet it's not real. Even if without the movie,(which I absolutely would LOVE to watch and looking forward to!) many fans of Stephenie can also relate to the story of how a young and ordinary girl like Bella would capture the eyes/heart of a dangerous yet so so gentle vampire like Edward.
we can see how Bella even though it's just a character, experience life with going through so much chaos but still manage to be with her soul mate whom is Edward. And with the movie, I really think that people who don't know anything about the Saga yet, will absolutely collect every upcoming books from Stephenie Meyer just like what will Stephenie's fans do! =]
Anyways,I'm really looking forward to the movie to release in Malaysia and the upcoming book, Breaking Dawn.
I'm a book lover and I ain't afraid to say it either.
I thought Harry Potter was my favorite, well it's totally the opposite now, your books are #1 and I people will inspire you to finish the saga. Like me for example.
Yes, Twilight has taken USA with storm, but has not yet been very well integrated out of it. Only the very first book has been translated into Danish (I live in Denmark), and I have no idea if the others are on the way. I was very sad to find out that no one at all of the people I talk to had ever heard of Twilight when I started reading them. It was a huge shocker to me. But I believe it could come. Harry Potter took time as well, right?
Yep, Twilight is huuuge. It could be the next Harry Potter. Those clips I've seen of the movie, I can guarantee that it will be great.
The success of HP is undeniable. There is hardly a person who has not heard of it. However, her books have been around longer than Meyer's books and they are well into filiming the 6th movie. Clearly the exposer of HP speaks to its success.
Twilight is starting out. Meyer's books started publication 3 years ago and the next and final book in the series is coming in August. The first movie is coming out this year, weeks after HP's 6th will be released. When considering this, its hard to ignore the huge fanbase that Twilight and the series has NOW, pre-movie, pre-extreme exposure. The fanbase is worldwide already at this point.
Also, since HP is so huge it's flattering to be compared to being "the next HP," but Twilight is completely different aside from the fantasy elements. It should be "the next big thing." I think everyone is getting a bit wrapped up in "well...is it as good as HP??" Follow the fans. It's loved and appreciated for it IS, not what it's compared to.
I think that sums up what hasn't been said yet.
And PS I just started reading them a few months ago and I'm in college.
LOVE HER, LOVE THE BOOKS
AND I AM EXTREMLY PROUD TO BE CALLED A TWILIGHTER!
How can you even compare Harry Potter with Twilight? Twilight basically provides a fantasy for females about an ideal guy, an ideal relationship, and their experiences together. Harry Potter has non-stop action and teaches a variety of lessons through out the series about friendship, the struggle for power, the continuous conflict between good and evil and about the mysteries revolving around death. Twilight GENERALLY appeals to females. I personally don't know any guy that enjoys reading these books unless he's homosexual. That's why when the movie adaptation for Twilight comes out, the amount of people that will go to theatres will not necessarily be less than the amount that went to see Harry Potter but I highly suspect they will almost ALL be females whereas the audience for Harry Potter was a large VARIETY of people.
Harry Potter will always be number one for me. I can relate to it more than Twilght. The seventh book was so unbelievably moving and I finished reading it as a changed person. It helped me accept the reality of death. However, I am also a HUGE fan of Twilight. Stephenie Meyer has the power to make her male characters of Edward and Jacob SOOOOOO unbelieveably sexy and the issues that Bella experiences are totally realistic. They are both excellent books and that's why they are being compared in this forum. But they have become successful each for different reasons. Harry Potter presented such a unique idea for a novel. It extended beyond the concept of witches, wizards, dragons, ghosts and goblins and captivated readers with its dry humour, intense emotional stimulation and exciting adventures. Twilght is kind of an outlet for females. It occurs in the completely real location of Forks, Washington yet the strangely magical and romantic events that occur cause the reader to be transposed into an unreal setting.
In conclusion, Twilight is NOT the next Harry Potter. It is a genius, unique piece of literature on its own.
Now that that is out of the way, I think /film was smart to write
about Twilight, I'd personally never heard of the site before
so it's good for them that a lot of people are here, that's the
point of a 'blog' isn't it? 800+ comments is pretty impressive.
I'm over 30 and love the books and the reason I went to Steph's
website is because I don't know anyone else who reads the series
and I wanted to find out what others thought of them. Just like any
other website (HP fansites included) you have some good posts
and some bad.
There are some very nice people on the Twilight IMDB board, girls,
boys, women and probably some men (although I don't think I've
seen any adult males posting yet). They're very good books,
especially if you like a little fantasy in your drama. There are better
comparisons than Harry Potter though, and remember,
people of his time ridiculed Shakespeare for his writing because he
wrote for the 'masses'.
Not that I'm comparing Stephenie Meyer to William Shakespeare
but they do have that in common at least.
"And where do you fit into that scheme? Oh, I'm with the vampires, of course."

Will you be the Bella to my Edward?
I'm 22, majoring in engineering getting a minor in english and have both male and female friends that enjoy/love these books. They are very imaginative and promp discussions on the deeper meanings of the saga (which if you ever analyze these stories the way the author suggest you do, you'll see the underlying messages hidden in the entertaining, enthralling storylines).
So while I WONT compare them to the HP books (which I was an avid fan of) because they are on a completely different level (TW surpassing HP in its smarts and literary styling) I will say that I hope for all our sakes that TW can hold its own at the box office. I would truly enjoy seeing the other stories come to live on the big screen.
I was FORCED to read Twilight and can I say that I felt like a crazy obsessed teenage girl again, mind you I am 31, and have better things to be doing then reading these books , but I couldn't put them down. I had to borrow all of the books, and then I decided to buy them for myself.
I am really excited for the movie, it just gives me more of what i want...Twilight!
There will always be haters, just be happy that you found something that you really enjoy.
I am not a twilightmom(yet) I got this link through Stephenie Meyers website.
uhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! no edward beats jacob times infinity!!!!!!!!! while i was breifly in love with jake edward is the main man of my heart. i'm sure Jessica will agree. right jessica( i no i don't really no you but you seem to agree with me alot and iu've read your enteries n loved em so yeah..)
i agree w/ all the things you've written
that being said, i am kind of sad that it is being made into a movie. the character selection isnt that good. whenever you read books like these, you create a mental picture in your head. everyone has their own ideas of how everything should look and how the characters should look. and thats something that you just cant create in a movie.
im not not saying that the characters for the movie are bad, they just arent how i pictured any of them. but i am excited for the movie to come out. and even more excited for Breaking Dawn to come out. Its sad that it will be the last book in the series....
It is better then Harry Potter. I have read all the Harry Potter books and can give my opinion expert opinion.
i totally agree i am the same way. excited bout themovie but worried about what it will do to the images i've created in my mind.
Mant people don't know about these books, but the ones that do are the lucky ones. They get to have a weird obsession over a fictioanl character ( mostly Edward for all you gals out there and Bella or Rosalie for you guys...) I personally love Jacob Black to death! TO DEATH!
I am constantly thinking about Twilight like it really is an obsession. I got the book from a friend who siad the book was okay but not great. Then I read it and fell in LOVE! I, of course, shared it with my pals. All of them loved it, except for two of them. My male cousin who loves video games about combat, 15, and my girlfriend who loves talking to people online and on the phone, 16. They both like reading but they hate Twilight. They make jokes about it and say Edward is a little emo boy. Which would be fine with me becuase emo guys are HOT!
I am a member to at least twelve different fansites and I visit stepheniemeyer.com about four times a day.
I even got my older sister to read it and now she hates me because she loves it too. I seriously need help but I seriously don't want it.
Chao!
i agree
Cheese...l
uuuum when did I say Twilight ISN'T an "emotional and intense book"? It's very emotional, especially New Moon - it's extremely moving when Edward leaves her and she falls into deep depression and Jacob helps her recover.
And whoever said "the story is about Bella" - yeah that is true. I'm sure that's what Stephenie Meyer intends. But what girl who has read Twilight do you see going, "OMG Bella is so awesome! I love her soooo much! She's so funny and, like, pretty!!" No - you hear girls going insane over Edward and Jacob = )
And Jessica, I have read the book because otherwise why the hell would I be writing in this forum???
It's sad to say that most of the guys at my school have never even heard of Twilight, and most of the girls do. The bookstore owner (23 yrs.) loves the books. I love 'em, too.
Tayler Lautner may be the #1 searched actor, but my heart is set on Rob Pattinson. I LOVE his American accent. he's pretty cool, too. Twilight Pattinson is completely different from Harry Potter Pattinson.
As far as Twilight" being the next "Harry Potter" (by the way I am also a huge Harry Potter Fan) the question isn't worded properly. I believe the fan base for both will be about the same size and dollar for dollar "Twilight" will make almost as much as the "Harry Potter" films in theatres, but the two story lines are completely unrelated.
I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good page turner and who appreciates the good taste shown by the author when carefully choosing her descriptions during fight scenes and intimate moments.
And I of course, agree. Twilight is amazing (and any other adjectives that encompass that meaning).
*sigh*
and if anyone is thinking about reading them i highly recomend them. i told my friend about them and now she is obbsessed with them, just like me!!
And if you want to give a real summary that is true and doesn't give away half of the book, here you go:
A small trip to Forks, Washington to see her father was all that 17 year old Bella Swan was expecting. But her first week at high school was a little different, to say at the least. An unexpected family lived in the area, and one of them drew great attention to Bella. A '17' year old boy by the name of Edward Cullen. What would Bella do?
As you might see now, Twilight is much more then yuor idiotic thoughts. It not just for teen girls, moron. It is for everyone. Anyone that can pick up a freakin book and read would love the Twilight series.
"And so the lion fell in love with the lamb."
"What a stupid lamb."
"What a sick, masochistic lion."
♥
its coming out around my birthday so im going to see it for that!
=]
jacob black is so hot!
in the book and in the movie!!
.///.
twilight is the best book!!! many girls in their early 20's can't wait for the movie!!! december 12th 2008!!!!!
twilight is the best book!!! many girls in their early 20's can't wait for the movie!!!
Edward is hot and so is jacob. I cant wait to see the movie and to read the book, breaking dawn. I really think it is cute that bella and edward has a really strong chemistry with eachother.
I remember what happened when Blood and Chocolate came out. I was so excited cuz i had read the book and loved it, then when I watched the movie i wanted to throw something at the TV! it was horrible!! if you've seen it, you know what i mean. If you haven't, well, there's a reason for that.
I just hope Twilight is good.
Oh, and to all you who say that Harry Potter has a bigger fanbase.... that may be true, but i have to admit i had never heard of Harry Potter when the first movie came out. Plus Harry Potter has had a lot longer to build up it's fanbase then Twilight.
Anyways, thanx for the laughs!! love the comments!! :P
Peace out bitches....
♥
Megan
I can't believe you are taking the time to actually argue about beliefs!
Some people like it, and others don't, END OF STORY!!!!
Thank You!
You've summed up what I was going to say wonderfully!
-----------------
Now to be more related to the topic:
The movie, I'm scared of it being produced... and excited...
Scared: Eragon...
Excited: Harry Potter...
Both have an amazing Book series! One sucked horribly, (Though the graphics were wonderful)
While the other was just so full of Win!
No Harry Potter and Twilight are NOTHING alike, aside from the fan base... and to be honest, a majority of the fan base is actually the same people... haha funny how that works eh?!
Another thing... the books were not completely based on Teen Girls... though I will admit those would be the first to jump on the band wagon ... I mean come on... Hot Guys, Sexy powers, Romeo-istic style... Its the typical dream of every woman who's at least a girl at heart... thats a "Duh! Go Figure" moment... but you worded that horribly wrong (Blog writer) and thats why your getting flamed to hell and back again!
Should have put something more along the lines of: Directed towards the Sifi/Romance Junkies.... or something like that... haha... that way you don't leave the boys out ither...
Anyway... those of you who have dissed the series, and my fellow Twilighters, Y'all need to learn not to poke a huge fanbase... it's like poking a very angry and sleepy bear... who's hungry too... just, BAD!
haha!
sadly, not many of my fellow Twilighters have been able to fight against some of the more superior posts... none the less we all know how ignorant the Flamer's are... ;D
--------
This movie will make huge press... it MIGHT knock harry potters movie off the top when it comes out... I mean, if you think this is bad... go figure when everyone who is not quite so Computer literate hits the theaters... Sky Rocketing the Box office... =D
I'm positive however that the Movie will in no way reach the books amazing standards... Mostly because ... that's an impossible task to complete! Twilight and it's following series is far to amazing for any movie to quite grasp. Though only time will tell, hell this might just be the first one to reach a closer ranking to it's book counterpart!
Though I do doubt that... It will be interesting to see!
At the same time, it's books like that that make me sick. A. Because of gigantic cliffhangers that make me nearly come to tears just thinking about how long I have to wait to find out what happens, and B. because I know no matter how much I write, I could never write a book like that. I'm pretty good for my age group, but I'm no where near Mrs. Meyer's level. Whenever someone mentions one of those books, I start jabbering on about how good they are and how much I hate waiting for the next one to come out and how bad I want to see the movie, unfortunately, I have to wait. I can almost guarantee that all I'll be able to talk about a month before "Breaking Dawn" comes out will be being the first person in line with my money in hand. Same for the movie.
that soudns weird but seriously. he cant get her pregnant! haha. mk
thats all for now. ill write back later! (p.s) i love you edward. oh and
in the movie robert pattinson better lose his british accent. i like it
when he is himself but not when he is playing edward. ok THATS all.
Sincerly,
I love twilight
p.s Jacob sucks and edward is so much better
Also, someone said that HP has sold a lot more copies than Twilight... maybe I'm really bad at math, but it looks to me as if there are 4 more HP books than twilight books, and HP has been around about seven more years than twilight...how's that for stats? Twilight is just better- face it!
Oh, and one more thing: I hated vampire stories before twilight. This story is truly a work of art.
Alice
But I'm really excited that this is gonna be a movie, and the books are great. I like the cast, except, the guy for charlie doesn't seem right. But "hay"! It's a really good book/movie *wink* and it's not just for teens.
Ps: I think Robert Pattinson is hawt.
Anyways I REALLY hope this movie will b great. The actors are ok. I'm really happy to find out that Taylor Lautner is Jacob because he is soooo HOT
Stephenie Meyer is my favorite author. Ever.
These are my favorite books ever!!!
And my obsession.
I'm so excited for the movie.
Twilight is one of the best books i've ever read, it has a great plot, interesting characters, and always makes you strive to continue.
I'm 13 years old, and i'm obsessed with this book, my opinion is that its better then the harry potter series (believe me, i've read them all about 20 times). As soon as i picked up the first book, i went on to New Moon and Eclipse and finished the books in a week (i would have probably finished sooner, but i ws caught up in homework and my other studies) all i want is for the next books to come out.
I wish Meyer would keep writing the series, and never stop!
For example, i loved the harry potter series, but the series ended, and i think thats what caused fans to become so detatched
BUT NOW theres a new series, thats at the top of almost every list
AND HEY! NOT MANY PEOPLE CHOSE TO WRITE BOOKS BASED ON LOVE STORIES.. that are based on vampires and humans!
i mean, the whole book is alluring, it keeps you wanting more because its so different, like us.
thats as far as the books goes, but for the movie ?
well, one of the comments said that the movie usually doesn't come out as good as the book
but the characters chosen are all well known, and i think that they were all chosen for the part perfectly.
I'M POSITIVE that it will come out as we expected, maybe even better
TWILIGHT > HRRY PTTR
most people commenting haven't even read this book
they're judging this book based on popularity, but first of all - TWILIGHT just came out and HARRY POTTER has been out for a long time.
READ THE BOOK AND THEN COMMENT!
SECOND) if you haven't actually READ the book STOP COMMENTING! Do not form an oppinion if you haven't even bothered to read it. It's riddiculous.
TWILIGHT IS AMAZING! And I will continue to tell everyone I know about them and make it their brand of heroine (read the book. You'll understand.)
P.S.- this isn't just a stupid romance book. so, GIVE IT A SHOT!!!!! EVEN if you are a guy. Us girls would like it a lot better if you do!!
Secondly, I hate how everyone keeps saying that Twilight is kicking Harry Potter's ass in the best sellers. Uh. HELLO. The last HP came out literally 8 months ago! The twilight series is fairly new and recent... of course it's going to sell more books than HP! How stupid of people. If HP had came out say...in the same time frame then yeah...you can compare sales.
Either way, I'm stoked for the movie!
and the new book!
TWILIGHTERS RULE!
I have to say that. WoW. I tried to read all of you guys' comments
but there are just SO MANY.WOW. I say that I love the books
that is a given, and when I first found it I was COMPLETELY obsessed. Then I grew up just a little until I picked them up again and read them for the *cough 7th time*. I DO check the website everyday and keep people at my school updated DAILY. I say that Stephenie knows what she wants right? She IS the author and she does have SOME say in the movie. As far as I'm concerned, as long as she is happy with the books and the movies, then that is enough for me.
By the way. Have you been on her website and read the excerpt for her totally non related book THE HOST. It's like way amazing. Even twilight haters should read it. I repeat it is TOTALLY UNRELATED. I have never read anything like it. I love the way she writes and I hope to be as good of a writer as she is although it will be really hard to get to.
I am not one of the "jacob lovers" but I think that they picked a person that will be able to pull it off. I think all of them are able to make a good movie. If you go into the movie with a strict indifferent, not hoping it to be exactly like the book, attitude then I think you will be better off.
I personally like Eragon the movie and I read the book first. Just stay indifferent on the movie and everything works out.
ps. I am not in one of the fan clubs.
AMAZING!
I am now hooked on reading and i read more than 20 books a month. But of course the Twilight series remains as my favorite. Its pactically my bible. i own and have read every book in the series so far at least 10 times each! and i could probably tell you about the most minoe detail in any of the books.
If anyone has any doubts that this book will become legend. THEY ARE DEAD WRONG!
I like both harry potter and twilight. The only thing that sets the two books apart for me is, not the plot, characters, or even the hotness of anyone or love of characters. I like twilight better because it is easier for me to read. I love the plot of Harry potter, but the way that JK Rowling writes is hard for me to get anywhere. I was trying to read HP#4 for a year and a half. I still never finished it. Finally I gave up and put my bookmark in #5. I am still trying to read that one but it is very hard.
I think it is funny that people, even I, was obsessed with a fictional character. I had a dream about him a few months ago. Which was hard because I can picture all of him except his facial features. That is harder for me. I had never dreamed of a fictional character before.
I guess girls like it better because every girl wishes that they had their own Edward. Whether a friend or more. Anyone tell me if I am wrong. Who would not like their own Edward (or Jacob) in their life. I know I would. That is pretty much the reason why people like these books so much. They wish their life was this book. and the writing is phenomenal (sorry don't know how to spell that).
go twilight!!!!!!! i think stephanie meyer is an amazing author i hope she decides to gon on w/ the series and doesn't really stop @ book # 5
I promise you will love it with all your heart! I absolutely love it!
It is so amazing! I can not wait until the movie comes out and you should definitely read it and then read the articles and go onto stephenie meyer's website www.stepheniemeyer.com and then read the updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most people have it easy. They read twilight then instantly got new moon and eclipse. I got twilight, waited a few months, got new moon, waited ONE YEAR, then got eclipse and I am waiting a year again for the host and breaking dawn, with a side of midnight sun and the movie.
go steven strait! go steven strait! GO FOR IT!!!!
you can't compare a 15-year-old-boy with robert pattinson as a vampire.
yes
i'm from lisbon, portugal and me and my friends all
read those amazing books
i kind of fell in love with Edward and after everything Stephenie told us in the extras,FQ,outtakes,i think i can understand him better
and it turn to be a little bit more difficult to judge him for every single decision he takes
but i dont think they will be the next harry potter! u cant compare to happy potter! its awesome! i've read all 7 of those and seen the 5 movies that hav come out and they were great.
twilight comes in 2nd place... or maybe they tie... oh! i cant decide... i luv harry and hermione and bella and edward all the same!!!!!
does any1 agree???????
There will be no good looking actor or actress that would reflect on the screen such a detailed and misterious love story like Twilight, I just hope they do their best and try not to disapoint people who has not read the books.
I'd like to see some fag with a stick kick Emmets ass any day.
:]
I have to say i didn't get into Harry Potter. I haven't even read the books, though my sisters tried their best. After watching the first two movies i lost all interest with Harry Potter.
*sniffles* They don't appreciate good vampire romance novels...
I hope that it doesn't become like Harry Potter. The ending was disapointing and the movies continually got worse.
And it's justifiable that it is being compared to Harry Potter. Just because YOU don't like HP, doesn't mean that it wasn't a huge success. I really do hope that Twilight is that huge, because Stephanie Meyer deserves the $ for creating such loveable characters.
On a side note: I am a huge Twilight fan. I love Jasper Whitlock Hale!!
i preorder all the rest of Stephenie's books she is a great
Is it the same time??
BTW - STEPHENIE MEYER, YOU ROCK!
i think that twlight was like probably the most sold book like ever i got so many friends reading it and they love it
Whenever there's a Twilight related thing out there on the web, there's always a massive crowd that flocks to it (ex: mtv's first article about the movie made website history).
Point is, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BOOK that captures so many readers... I think if you would go out and read it, you'll know exactly what I mean.
And no, it isn't some action/supernatural/fantasy story... for the most part, the book is just one big love story.
Which is exactly the reason why I DONT think it'll ever beat Harry Potter: it isn't really as reader-friendly as HP.... You are more than correct when you said it is targeted mostly towards teenage-hopeless-romantics.
All in all, everyone who hasn't still should check it out... the plot, the characters, the charming edward -YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE.
ask me why. you'll laugh.
i am your average 15 year old girl who is rediculously obssesed with the twilight series! its a relief to see you acknowledge just how GREAT of a fanbase twilight really is (if not i shall prove so):
ive read twilight 13 times, new moon 11 times, and eclipse 16 times, when im not reading those books, im reading fan fiction, and when im not reading fan fiction im watching videos about the making of the movie and constantly checking up on stepheni meyeres page for updates about the movie
basically...im a TWI-HARD, im watching the movie the first showing with 16 of my friends (were even making shirts) and getting the 4th book with them at midnight as well..
and id put money on the fact that this movie is even MORE highly anticipated than harry potter...my answer to your question...
TWILIGHT WILL BE AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ERA
but harry potter will never come even CLOSE to comparison
so like many others are highly anticipating the movie and the fourth book to come out, i never really was into harry potter much because ive NEVER read much fantasy but i tell you twilight BLEW me away
i read a LOT and it takes a lot for me to say
THE TWILIGHT SERIES IS THE MOST AMAZING CREATION OF LITERATURE THAT HAS EVER WALKED INTO MY LIFE!
ALL HAIL S.MEYER!
twilight beats harry potter in every way shape and form in my opinion. buttt before anyone goes all "OMG WTF BLAHBLAHBLAH" on my comment, thats just my opinion. but anyways, twilight is not just for teens as everyone has mentioned. i will agree that most people are female teens, but there are so many older // boy fans also!
dont judge a book by its cover =)
PS, go team switzerland! edward gets bella and hopefully jacob will imprint on someone in breaking dawn! then again... if it is a "romeo & juliet"-like story... they fight. paris falls. poor jake. =( but come on, we all know bella and edward are meant to be no matter what. sorry team jacob fans, no offense! but jacob is pretty obnoxious and immature.[ hence he is only 16. but i still love him =) even if i do love edward more. i do not feel the hatred towards jake that a lot of team edward's do. i actually quite like jake...when he's not being a jerk. that is why i consider myself team switz. =) ]
wow, im off topic. ill leave it at that. i am determined to prove everyone who believes twilight will bomb wrong to the max. >=)
I am a HUGE GINORMUSE OBSESSED FAN! but...... I am a HUGE FAN OF HARRY POTTER too, but I love my edward more than harry plus i think the writting is WAY better! Plus i also think the movie will be amazing and more people will go to it cause i am going to the 12:00 a.m show on dec. 12! omg i am soooooooooooooooooo excited for the forth book and the movie only 99 days till the breaking dawn! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO TEAM PATTZ.
i am in love with robert pattinson! people, stop hating him! he is amazing, and he looks sorta ugly in photos cause he is not photogenic. but if you watch the videos and see the chemistry btw kristen and him. omg its magical :) i feel so bad for him. of coarse hes not living up to the expectations of edward. edwards different in every individuals mind. no actor can live up to our own personal edward, but give robert a chance! he is a very talented actor. robert, youre my favorite edward out of all of the choices [yes thats right, i do not like the idea of gaspard for edward at all in my opinion. go robert!!] =)
i support the cast of twilight all the way!
because the covenant it's not really a great movie...
such a shame that people who write before they think wouldn't realize how much a person had to say in retort
ive got all my friends to read it, even my sister who isnt really a reader. and im guessing this article is many about Taylor Lautner but hes not the star of Twilight. if you want to write something that might be reviewed by thousands of fans, i suggest thinking before actually doing it.
Twilight is the best. i got my 2 older sisters hooked and they love it as much as me. It will be a huge hit and is so much better than harry potter. The storyline is better and edward/robert pattison is so much hunkier than harry/daniel radcliffe!!!
it is GREAT :)
Has anyone noticed that most (if not all) of these comments have been posted by teenage girls.....
One more thing, I
I love Edward Cullen
Can't wait for the fourth book and the movie!!!
I'm a 30 y.o. TwilightMOM and I received Twilight and Eclipse for Christimas. I'm serious when I say that I literally could NOT put Twilight down for a sec. When I finished reading Twilight which was the next day went and bought New Moon. Again could not put it down well ofcourse til I had to sleep BUT, it probably took me about 3 days to read all 3 books. And I just finished re-reading them like some rabid fangirl so it can always stay fresh in my mind. I'm THRILLED that Twilight is being made into a film and will be in line 12/12/08 just like the rest of those rabid fangirls and boys, eagerly waiting for my turn to buy that ticket to go watch th emot anticipated film this year!
Well... at least according to me, us, everyone...ahh ya know what I mean! :0)
Twilighters UNITE!
P.S. Robert Pattinson is HOTTTTTTT! Very happy with that choice!
I THINK TWILIGHT WILL BE BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER!!!!!!
now can you shut up please? ;-}
Than again, they're two different pages in a book. Twilight feeds the emotions and the imagination while Harry Potter feeds more on the imagination part although there are relationships involved too.
I wish people would stop comparing the two because it just isn't right. And if this continues, there might just be a ridge between witches and wizards in Hogwarts and the vampires and werewolves in Forks.
To compare Harry Potter to Twilight would be like "comparing a small tree with the whole forest", like what Edward said. But that's just my opinion. :)
I'd like to know if Stephenie Meyer or whoever is in charge with the soundtrack of the movies have accessible addresses for my e-mails. I have some songs that I'd like to suggest. Thanks and more power Twilighters and Stephenie Meyer! :D
So I was at a bookstore looking for a new buffy book when this girl passed in front of me holding the the twilight series...so I was intrigued and looked for the book as well (read a few excerpts and end up buying the 3 books!)....it's as good as buffy minus the girl power. Nevertheless IT IS A GOOD READ and I'm looking forward to the movie and the next book!
i Love twilight novel,,,that story so heart touch...i'm sorry i don't fluently english language...
hmm,,,,,I don't like the ending story (twilight) because bella will become vampire and i'm confused too,,,what is the end, bella will be become an vampire???
and i very agree,,,robert pattinson will become 'edward cullen',,
i reflect an image edward cullen,,,he is so nicest guy,,,and...
when will twilight launching in hold a market..or in indonesia???
i very wait for twilight movie,,,
I throughly hope I am wrong however.
I adore these books, they just catch you right when you start them and they hold you in page after page.
For anyone who wants to see the movie, I suggest you read the books first.
They are well worth the time.
I have suggested Stephenie Meyer's writing to anyone and everyon I know that likes to read even remotely. I've lent my copy to probably around ten people and Ive had probably around an extra thirty or forty check it out of a library or buy a copy based on my suggestion to read it and not once have I ever seen less than an obsessive reaction.
I'm the president of a student book club, and I work in a library as a class for school and I am a senior in high school. I found the original twilight book in my local library while browsing with a friend when no one in my area had even heard of it. In less than a year, it became an epidemic for my community in Chester, Va.
These books are meant for all and I will be completely and utterly in awe the day that ANYONE says they do not like it after reading it and is speaking true. It is entirely my opinion that no one can dislike this story, and that's alot coming from me, a person who believes that anything is possible.
I don't think that Twilight will be like HP, but the effects will most likely be the same. And this is be much, much, MUCH bigger than HP, hands down.
i'm a guy and love twilight! and i'm only 13.
all kinds of people can love twilight. so stuff that in your juice box.
my parents love twilight too.
by that I mean their relationship not them their self
go Jacob is Taylor launter even Native American and I may like Twilight better that HP but HP is a leadgend forever It's sad to think the next generation wont have the same expierences with HP as us. I also think twilight can be a littel to adictive
Plus who wouldn't want to know how a vampire falls in love but I like werewolves better
omg
although Edward.....how can anyone resist????
If the books have multiple similarities then you can easily compare them.
1). Twilight & HP are both popular series
2). They are both about teenagers
3). Both are Young Adult Novels
4). Both are Fictional
5). Both Take you away from reality
6). Both make you wish it was all real
And Finally
7). Both were written by some amazing authors
So I am going to ramble on some more and tell you what I think about the books
HP
1). Is adventurous
2). .... Thats it ....
TWILIGHT
1). Adventurous
2). Mysterious
3). Romantic
4). ... and honestly after you have read this book, who doesn't want to be a Vamire?!?
5). or for that matter Who wouldn't want to marry Edward?!?
Finally I would just like to Tell you all that I am in love with a fictional character... I love you Edward! :P
-mrs.zoe cullen
J.K. Rowling is an amazing author.
Stephenie can't write for shit.
And who wants to marry an obsessed, clingy, psycho stalker? Well, not me.
agreed :)
to all you twilight haters...have you actually read the books?!?!?!?!?!
happy about the movie
I have been watching the videos and i
cant wait to see the movie .
all my frends are obses too and we love edward an jacob.
I love harry potter books but i like more the idea
of the vampire and it makes the characters be more
atractive .
i hope the movie is as good as the book
:D
Sure the series give you the same effect of wanting something like that to happena and all that, but actaully reading each book gives you different feelings on different things, Harry Potter puts you on the egde because you don't know when Voldemort is really going to return, but Twilight puts you on edgde for what would happen between Bella and Edward, and will Bella ever be bitten and turn into a vampire. You could feel the action from Harry Potter but feel sorrow or anticipation for what's to come in Twilight. Don't just compare the books from the outside, it is, after all, the inside that counts. Or a better quote "Don't judge a book by it's cover." lol It's what's inside that makes the books so different, a story about a wizard and a story about a human and vampire inlove, what ever you want to say about them, it's the story within the pages that make them different and therefore, Twilight will not be the next Harry Potter. I got your point though, which was very good, I hope you get my point too. :D
I found Twilight intruging. It taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to, and that I should not be afraid of anything. After all, life is all about taking risks. And Twilight pointed out to me, that no matter how hard love can be, its worth fighing for.
Harry Potter is entertaining, but Twilight tops it with its life lessons. You can put down Harry Potter, and pick up one of the Stephenie Meyer books. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
I like harry potter as well, but I think Twilight is way better!
It;s so romantic yet very exciting, It's a real page turner! I've read it about 3 times... It's really worth reading.
I live in The Netherlands, it's not that popular over here but I hope the movie comes in the cinemas over here as well.
The books from twilight series are my favorite books ever.
And I am a proud teenage girl! I understand that there is a wide range of fans of the books, but it seems as if many people are insulted by the fact that this book was directed to a certain demopgraphic, JUST as were the HP books before they blew up in popularity...
I read this book over 2 years ago, when no one had heard of it. I'm actually still a little wary about the movie, because I don't want the twilight universe destroyed for me like Eragon.
Erieka
she said i had to read it ,i did and loved it .I'm proud to be a Twilight Mom. I've pre-order 3 Break Of Dawn .
she said i had to read it ,i did and loved it .I'm proud to be a Twilight Mom. I've pre-order 3 Break Of Dawn .
but my concluding sentince is.... I AM SO CRAZY ABOUT STEPENIE MEYER THAT IM GOING TO BUY EVERY FREAKIN BOOK SHE WRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and i think im the most adoring fan around...
Deanna.
IT DIDN'T EVEN COME OUT YET, YOU HAVE NO CLUE IF IT WILL BE AS GOOD AS THE BOOK OR WORSE.. THAT REALLY GETS ME MAD. GIVE IT A SHOT... GEEZ.
(For all you people who are going to argue against me, take into consideration: I have all of the books, each more than once. Like I said, they are a *guilty pleasure.* They shouldn't be taken so seriously. I'm a thirteen year old girl, in the general audience for the novels. I read more than all of you. I guarantee it. Books are my obsession. I'm very intelligent--one of the top in my class. I'm not immature about love stuff--I can ALWAYS appreciate a good love story. In fact, I believe in all that love at first sight stuff, but Bella and Edward falling for each other like that... I know they were made for each other and whatnot, but still. There was no buildup. Just a statement. I have done extensive research (read reviews, Meyer's website, etc.) on the books for a school project. I am not extra obsessive about Harry Potter. And also, I am not a minority in this thinking--who would be here if they didn't like Twilight? I came across it by accident.)
I'd really love to hear your arguments.
I love...no...am OBSESSED with Twilight...! no joke
Edward is the sweetest guy ever!!! he is so caring and always does things that Bella will be better off with...hopefully anyway
JACOB IS SOOOO.....UGH......he troubled Bella so much in the third book.....no offense to the Jacob fans......
I have to admit though, i fought with this one girl in my class about who is better- Edward or Jacob......
i think i am so emotional with this book...but that's why it is sooo awesome
I AM DYING TO GET BREAKING DAWN...and I WANT TO SEE TWILIGHT SOO BADLY....i think everyone should write to stephenie meyer saying that she should continue after Midnight Sun with the series....!!!!!
BELLA AND EDWARD RULE
I don't think Harry Potter and Twilight should be compared because they are very different
I LOVE both series and can't wait for the movie
yes , elicipse knocked harry potter off the best seller list because no book stays on there forever.
well it is time forme2go so bye bye peeps
So in my opinion Harry Potter>Twilight
Love them both, but I was way more into Harry Potter
Harry Potter sends you off into a world of magic and wizardy. Twilight just delivers you hot dream guy...who happens to be a vampire. I was amazed by Rowling's imagination...but Meyer, she is great at description...but I don't know...didn't find it much appealing. If I were to re-read a series. I'd re-read Harry Potter anytime. I have...I've read the series over seven times...Twilight so far, I've read once and skimmed to my favorite parts the second time.
I love books, they take me somewhere that doesn't exist. Make my imagination fly! So, I would know your romance novels and your fantasy. They are nothing alike. I appreciate Harry Potter way more, I do. But I see no REAL base of comparison.
i just cant get enough of him. i already liked vampires to begin with but edward is...OMG!!!!!!! i just love him, but i have to say im more excited about the 4th book than the movie because it ruins the books sometimes! I LOVE EDWARD CULLEN!!!!!(IM OBSESSED)
i cant help but laugh at you. so you are 13 and telling me the book is poorly written? read it again in 5 or 10 years honey then give me your critique. at 13 youre not old enough to grasp this story. dont get mad, when i was 13 i thought i knew everything too. Id like to see you write a story thats so much better. Im 23 and have been a bookworm all my life and have been reading tons of books since you were in utero. SM does a phenomenal job writing the book. She puts you in bellas mind, makes you feel for her, cry with her. She is an amazing writer, a phenomenal talent and you are a little girl. get real sweetie. Of course word of mouth has helped with its popularity. That refutes your statement of how "poorly" written it is. Readers have spread the word to read this book b/c they love it and want everyone to experience the world SM created and sucked us into. I know some teens may be like OMG edward is so hot read this, but thats not all of it. I got swept up in this story, i lived and breathed it after i read it and if you didnt feel that way im sorry honey. when you mature some and have at least gotten through high school english lit reread it and i hope you love it like most everyone that has read it.
TWILIGHT ROCKS and STEPHENIE IS THE COVEN MOTHER!!!!
I realize that on my entry before that i didn't express my love of both Twilight and Harry Potter. I'm 14 years old, and have gotten my mom (who's a theripist I might add) absolutly in love with Stephenie Meyer's books as well. Also, I realize my entery before sounded like it was from someone stuck-up; I truly didn't mean it that way at all.
Both the Twilight and the Harry Potter books are wonderful books in their own right. People also take into account the evironment the were written in, witch i deem completely and totaly irrelivent.
I believe that Stephenie Meyer far exceeded what she wanted and that was to write a novel that people loved and connected with and I think that only thing that matters.
I just really hope every single person in this movie can pull it off!
I am absolutely in love and obssessed with Twilight!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR BREAKING DAWN!!! ALSO CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!
I'm in love with Edward!!! What an amazing series!!
i meant no offense in using sweetie and honey, im from the south and thats how we southern belles speak. i never said she was immature or that all 13 yr olds are immature, just that you have yet to reach your full maturity. im sure you are all mature--for teenagers, and i was by no means judging anyone. anyways fellow twilight fan im not going to bicker with someone 10 years my junior, just know i meant no offense to any 'tween fans of the series, i was just tellin tookie how i felt. im gonna read new moon some more....and as for my little girl comment, only those who are little girls take offense to that (i am not a little girl!! *STAMPS FOOT*) i was the same at 13, and oh FYI i was top in my class too!! toodles!!!
SOUTHERN BELLES UNITE FOR TWILIGHT!!!!
CAROLINA GIRLS....BEST IN THE WORLD!!!
TO ALL THE OBSESSIVE TWILIGHT FANS: There ARE other books that exist in the world! It's a book... you will eventually get over it (I think). I used to love and worship those books- now it's just getting old.
again i honestly meant no offense when i said honey and sweetie im from the south and thats how we southern belles speak. gosh are you all yankees lol. sorry you took it that way, but thats on yall, not me.
And Twilight is no something you can explain, its more of a read it thing, so the ones who are dissing Twilight...have you ever read it? No? Exactly.
The guy playing Edward isn't to bad, a little pale make-up and good.
And Twilight is mosty definantly better then HP. Twilight makes everything so real. As though there are vampires and werewolves but more realistic then the crappy movie ones. (Ignore my bad pun as there is a movie coming out. xD) But Stephanie morphs our modern image of a vampire and werewolf into a more believable form, which creates a strong connection. And of course Edward is cute.
toodles!!!
i actually used to be a TOTAL harryp fan but after reading twilight i stoped re-reazdaing the whole harry p series
aeriel i wasnt being condescending apparently in sayin sweetie and honey you took it as being bitchy, which is not how i meant it. anyways in proof of my maturity im done with you....and now im being condescending....little girl. back to twilightmoms i go where we dont jump on each other like you all have done me. sigh
As per the Twilight HP comparison. Please don't. I am a MAJOR fan of both Twilight and Harry Potter. Theres really no way to say they can become the next Harry Potter because they are on different playing fields. Harry Potter is Magic and set back a few years for the beginning in a castle in London, where as Twilight is all high school in America. So please don't compare the two like that.
I can not comment on the other comparison you made for I have not dealt with it.
adios señores!
~Aeriel
But no offense of course! I love both the series, but HP will always be closer to my heart.
As for the Harry Potter/Twilight thing, I don't really find the comparison offending. I understand why it would be. They're both just really amazing books by amazing authors. thats it.
holygoldwhatits.
nice arguement.
Oh, and Lily, If you want to prove ur mature, don't call someone you don't know a "hoe"
GO TEAM EDWARD
So it's not JUST teenage girls.
It may be a romance novel, but seriously, it's more than that. And I did not want to read this book at first, hearing it as a "vampire romance" I knew I wouldn't like it! But I tried a chapter, and I've never been so hooked on any book ever!
It's amazing. Don't judge until you've read it. :]
but thats just my opinion.
Right before i started reading the twilight series, i was obsessing over the harry potter series, but nothing can drag my attention away from twilight, now! they're so hard to compare, because they're both totally different worlds. However, fact that the twilight books are still being written makes it more somehow more exciting for me, whereas that has now gone from the harry potter , since the series has finished and i know what to expect.
But movie-wise, i have more to look forward to with the twilight movies, since harry potter's now coming towards the end.
All in all
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!!!!
the 12th of december seems a LIFETIME away,
...that is, if they decide to release it as early in the UK
=[
... i hope so =D
[i forgot to mention edward in the book is my favourite character, simply due to the fact that he exists .also, i love emmett and the actor kellen lutz resembles him remarkably, so i'm looking forward to seeing that]
TEAM EDWARD!!!!!! It is a pretty nice thing to have a vampire boyfriend who would piss off the Voultri just for you. We all know Bella is very lucky.
I am totally psyched for the movie and Breaking Dawn to be released!!!!!!! I think they picked the cast PERFECTLY!!!!! Kristen and Robert are the PERFECT choices to play Bella and Edward and the rest of the cast is amazing!!!!!!!!!!
But I am a little scared about how the movie will turn out.
No pressure on the cast but.... they will make or break the movie.
Yes I totally agree with you, they are different, and I loved both books. Harry Potter is definitely more "edgy" then Twilight, but it never drew me in as much as Twilight has. honestly I have never loved a book as much as twilight. I just got done reading twilight new moon and eclipse for the third time each, and the only thing I want to do now is read them again!
I'm sorry if i was sounding like I just trying to judge the books based on reading only Twilight ... I've read the HP series multiple times. I just Prefer Twilight.
Also I only had about 5-10min. to read other comments and to write my entry because I was in the middle of class! oops! :P
They have a seek peek at the Movie Twilight. And just to warn you... There is a Fight scene between Edward and James, so it's not completely true to the book, but what I've seen from it, it still looks FANTASTIC, and I can't wait to be the first person in line to see the movie! :D
like i pictures of the casts from mtv interviews and stuff on my wall
and no, twilight will not be the next harry potter
twilight will be twilight
which is a thousand times better than harry potter.
or any other book series
and no offense, but people who haven't read or heard about the book shouldn't write articles about it because they don't understand
and they make the book sound incredibly cheesy.
which it's not.
so leave it to the fans :]
you cannot compare this book to harry potter they are soo soo different and please dont' write anymore articles until you learn to know what you are talking about.
you see how us fans stick together to not let people like you insult it? you will see how popular the movie will be and you have already seen how popular the books are!!! read the book!
And I am SO excited for the movie.
But I'll have to agree that Harry Potter and Twilight are COMPLETELY different.
And I don't think that you can really compare them.....
plus Harry Potter rocks my socks ^^
Please stop saying that the Twilight series are just for teenagers... i'm 25yrs old and five other of my friend wich are 10-15yrs older than me all love the series as well...
Please stop comparing it to Harry Potter...because it's NOT!!!!!!!!!!
HP is HP... and Twilight is Twilight... 2 great fantasy books...
Twilight movie is going to ROCK!!!!!
"to tookieclothespin-

i cant help but laugh at you. so you are 13 and telling me the book is poorly written?"
Yes, I am.
"read it again in 5 or 10 years honey then give me your critique."
Have you read any real literature? Trust me. I won't change my mind.
"at 13 youre not old enough to grasp this story. dont get mad, when i was 13 i thought i knew everything too."
I don't know everything. I know that. I admit that. But that doesn't mean I'm stupid. I can grasp the story. Maybe you're so blinded by the story that you can't see the words.
"Id like to see you write a story thats so much better."
Someday. It's not really much to live up to.
"Im 23 and have been a bookworm all my life and have been reading tons of books since you were in utero."
Really?
"SM does a phenomenal job writing the book."
Ha!!!!! Try looking past the pretty people to see the anti-feminist protagonist, horrible dialogue and poor plot development.
"She puts you in bellas mind, makes you feel for her, cry with her. She is an amazing writer, a phenomenal talent and you are a little girl."
Hm. Well, since your ten years older than I am, I guess I'll just take your word for it. *snort* You ought to look up "phenomenal talent."
"get real sweetie."
Ah... so that's my problem! Please don't call me sweetie. Ever.
"Of course word of mouth has helped with its popularity."
Didn't I say that? I was merely commenting on who the mouths belonged to.
"That refutes your statement of how “poorly†written it is."
Nope. It soooo doesn't. I really don't feel like explaining this again.
"Readers have spread the word to read this book b/c they love it and want everyone to experience the world SM created and sucked us into."
Readers have spread the word to read this book because they love it but don't have much to compare it to, not having read much else. I see the people in my school who read Twilight. I know what I'm talking about. And again, they love all the pretty people.
"I know some teens may be like OMG edward is so hot read this, but thats not all of it."
That is always the underlying message.
"I got swept up in this story, i lived and breathed it after i read it and if you didnt feel that way im sorry honey."
I really don't like being called honey. Under ANY circumstances. Please refrain from doing this ever again. Call me Tookie (points for getting the reference). Call me "hey, you." But do not call me honey. It is degrading.
"when you mature some"
Look who's talking!
"and have at least gotten through high school english lit"
I'll get back to you in a year.
"reread it and i hope you love it like most everyone that has read it."
I won't love it. I hope you read something else and pick a new favorite book.
"
TWILIGHT ROCKS and STEPHENIE IS THE COVEN MOTHER!!!!"
To this intelligent statement, I have nothing to say.
-tookie
I don't see how I sounded immature there. Please enlighten me?
-Tookie
grow up both of youits rediculous
everyone has there own opinons on the books
the purpose of the comments on the page is to comment on your opinions about the article not bitch at each other like immature girls
If you go up and see my previous posts, you'll see that I was stating my opinion of the book and that people thought I was immature and ridiculous.

i was readding through the comments and happened to come across your guy's little argruement, i believe the "holygold is a hoe" is what caught my attention lol
and i didn't mean to direct that comment to just you but to them as iwell i mean its cyberspace? and were in a movie forum commenting about an article? theres really no need to argue just discuss like the intelligent mature people we really are
i happen to be a big fan of twilight
ive read harry potter series as well and i love the twilight series with all my heart! but i guess that just depends on your personal preference
im 15 and a total book worm just as well
but you being 13 doesn't affect my judgement on your intellect :]
by the way i know several guys who luv these books, i think next time u should get ur facts straight.
twilight is a great book, its a pulling love story, a kind of love that everyone wants to have, and stephenie really pulls that off and thats hard, so when u read it you feel it. she wrote it in a way so that EVERYONE can enjoy it, but i will admit if ur 13 yes you man be smart but there are emotions and feelings you may not experence till your older, or you've given yourself more time to mature
if you dont like it tookie thats fine, it may not be ur thing, i'm not going to whine and try to force you to say its awesome.
but when i say you dont understand....you dont understand....you dont feel what the rest of us fans feel
you may not like it, understand it whatever then go read something else,
i just love all books, and twilight is in that list
I'm not saying its a bad thing, but my brother is the same age as you and he does the same types of things just to piss others off.
However I wouldn't dis Twilight in front of its huge fan base, that just proves how immature you are. It doesn't make you any more of an adult.
Now that issue is out of the way, I agree with many of you other "Twilight Fanpires" I can't wait for the Next book, and the movie!
P.S. I'm in the process of making my own "Twilight Fanpire" T-Shirt! It's going to be so much fun wearing it to the Breaking Dawn Book Release! :D
GO DIE JACOB!!!
i cant wait for the movie and the 4th book!!!
its gonna be awesome!
go die jacob black.
but if they ruin the book's rep... Darn
But the director did good movies so...sigh..here's to hopin
If this book/story was not original, it would not sell as it has. A publisher wouldn't have offered a 750 thousand dollar advance to someone who, not only had never been published, but had never even written a book before. The book appeals to men and women of all ages,
I really don't care if you don't like it. It's not everyone's cup of tea. But before you shoot off about it, make sure you know what you are talking about first (e.g. read the book and form an EDUCATED opinion).
Here's the thing: for those who have read and liked the books, the movie clips we are seeing are actually quite promising. Why? Because WE already KNOW the story. We know the characters, the plot, etc. And so we can see where things fit, and where the director is apparently going with the footage. Now, of course, the movie is going to be quite different from the book. I've already seen several differences. They are different mediums of telling the same story. But at the end of the day, its the same story.
Oh, and your dramatic statement about these types of movies showing the "downfall of American cinema"... that was quite amusing. Because at the end of the day, the movies that are made are for the enjoyment of the American people. Even the "serious" film makers want their movie to appeal to SOMEONE. Otherwise, they wouldn't bother.
So sure, plenty of people may be going a bit over the top here. But really, when something you enjoy is thrashed by another person who doesn't even know what it's all about, would you honestly feel differently?
Your comments have put your blatant ignorance on display throughout your post. Thank you very much for the laughter you have given me for those few minutes.

Wow, the amount of vag on this article is astounding.
This is just another lame teen-drama featuring pretty boys and girls from the Myspace/MTV(that’s Miscellaneous Television) generation running around and playing with “supernatural forcesâ€Â…oh, and emotions.
That can be said for the books, too, I’m sure of that as you’ve all proven your devout devotion to something that must, in your minds, be a “movement†(raiding the comments on slashfilm because of a post on “twilightmoms.comâ€Â??? Seriously??) or a “fadâ€Â.
Speaking of twilightmoms.com - I’m guessing these moms are the same ones that like to dress like their kids and buy them all of the latest “hot†outfits. You know the ones who throw parties for their “little angels†and have myspace accounts and have all of their daughter’s friends’ numbers on speed dial?
Supporting this film (in it’s current state - that is, the state of the movie in the previews on MTV) is simultaneously supporting the downfall of American cinema in general. We’ve become far too focused on profit and marketability. Skaught was right, I think we he called the book and movie “popcorn books†and “popcorn moviesâ€Â. They come out to sell seats and appease the immature, angsty teenage girls that they’re marketed to. And don’t give me the “I’m 40 and I love it†argument. See the part on twilightmoms above. See also term: “outlierâ€Â. The truly unfortunate thing is that, in their blind fan-frenzy, these teenage girls will all go score the movie 10/10 on IMDB and negate any truly critical scores. Not to mention all of the “OMG THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST MOVIE EVAR!!! U HAVE 2 GO SEE IT!†reviews.
Fact is, it just plain looks like a horrible movie based on a book with a highly unoriginal story.
I know I’ll get flamed for this post as has anyone who speaks out against it. Can’t stop the twilightmom war machine.
and tyler j go away
"Yes, you are EXACTLY my brand of heroin"
"Look after my heart, I've left it with you"
By the way, does anyone know when the Twilight movie comes out in Australia?
I love Stephenie, although now it's going to be impossible to find a guy that fits into Edward's type. Not to mention that half the girls at my school love Edward, I finally had to beat them with a stick.
My friend who read Twilight is actually a Jasper/Jacob fan, and he's of male species.
:D
this book is not the next harry potter, it is better.
I swear that I'll be the first one in the book store=)to buy it!
I think the cast of the film is quite good, too! First I was a little offended of the edward..=) but now I think Robert pattison is the right one for it...but though not the best!
as I'm living in Germany...I have to wait for the film until next year!
I don't think the book is better than harry potter...they are both incredible and great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ♥ Edward Cullen!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alice rocks!
END OF STORY.
1. Jane Austen
2. Stephenie Meyer.
I read all the comments that come into my inbox and I bet theres only about 5% of the comments negative - and personally I think they are crazy.
"I love twilight and all but Harry Potter is un believeablely good. Harry Potter is my one eathly love. No boy will every be that good to replace that series"
The person who wrote this cannot have read very much of the book b'cause they obviously haven't even got to Bella's first day!
Keep up the good comments. Twilighters rule.

are you crazy?!?!?! i know you've read the books because i know you personally ( i introduced her to this site btw) and come on!!! you used to think they were the greatest what happened?!?!?!? what books are better huh? give us some examples!!!!
i have got myself doing that too: talking about them like they're real and even beliving maybe they were. how else could stephenine have written the books like that?!?!?! with enough details so fans can conjur him up like i now they do?!?!? it's beyond me--stephine is ahhhhh-mazing!!!!!!! :)
1) whoever wrote this article clearly has no perception of the books, its a love story with some fantasy but the vampire charecters have so many humanistic qualities that you barely realize it except for their supersenses. the werewolves are deffinately not the bad guys, at all. in fact, if you had read the books you would know that the werewolves are some of bella's best friends and one of them she falls in love with :) also the books dont compare to harry potter but in a few ways-
- both fantasy
-both bestsellers
-both have a big fanbase
however, they should not be compared because even thought they are both fantasy HP is more action, suspense, twilight has some of that but is generally a love story.
2) Although the fanbase is mostly teenage girls (age 12-16 or so) many others read it. i know a few teenage boys that have read and enjoyed all three books, my mom and aunt are going to be reading it this summer, twilightmoms.com is one fo the largest fan sites for twilight and they provide the "twilighters" or "twi-hards" of most of our updates, including pictures from the set and such. and as you have seen in many other comments there are lots of different people who read it.

4) boys in books are just better.... :)
5)I think that if the twilight saga gets enough publicity that in the next year or so the fanbase could become even bigger! with the movie coming out (dec. 12), the fourth twilight book(breaking Dawn, August 2), and another Stephenie Meyer book (The Host) coming out (may 6) there will be a lot more news about it. my aunt told me just yesterday that there was a headline on her MSN homepage about it!!! :) and MTV is doing a great job, they have tons of videos out as well as other sites. like i said above twilightmoms.com as well as many other washington/oregon based fans are able to sneak onto the set and get us some wonderful behind-the-scenes pix and vids.
but yeah im done rambling now, lol, i kind of ranted... XD
mrs. cullen
see ya on the flip side
TWILIGHT ROCKS!!!!!! XD XD XD XD
Thank you.
I am a teenage girl and i agree that i love it, and that most fans are also teenage girls. I would like to point out that teenage girls who like any book, movie, tv show, music artist, actor, magaize, website, game, whatever, tend to tell their friends about it. And said friends are friends because they have similar interests and therefore trust the other's judgement on trying out the new thing. Friends of a different age bracket or gender would logically think that the whatever-it-is does not apply as much to them, so it stands to reason that people listen more to their really close friends with similar interests, age levels, genders, etc.
So since Twilight is advertized as a novel for teen girls, more teen girls pick it up, read it, and recommend it to friends. And it is mostly the teen girl friends who listen. Plus, the non-teen girl friends see it as a teen girl book and therefore think that they probably won't like it.
It spreads most readily through the teen girl audience.
My little preteen sister read it and is totally obssesed, alot of her preteen friends love it, my mom read it because she wants to read whatever i'm reading, a friend of mine got her dad to read it (he thought is was incerdibly sappy, but he isn't one for romance novels), and i know some guys who have read and love it.
So if you're a non-teen girl who has been told by a friend to read it, then do so, because your friend knows yu and wouldn't tell you to read it unless you really should.
Thank you, this has been
"TWILIGHT TEEN-GIRL FANBASE, EXPLAINED"
;-)
me neither i am an eighth grader!!!!
another book that ppl would like if they like this book is 'Wicked Lovely'
ya'll really need to read that book

Twilight is not the next HP but it is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good. Much better than Lemony Snicket and even the first two chapters of The Hobbit.
I dont get on it all that much though.
julie r: sheesh chill alright?!!!? what we said
was are opinion just like what you said was yours.
no biggie if you don't like the books fine that's
your problem. but don't be mean and bring us
down and make us feel like losers for loving
these books okay?? cuz that's not allowed.
member argue intelligently. *wink*
y the #? that's not really smart........but w/e
1) this is not only for teenage girls. I enjoy them and I am not a teen and also there are boys who like them. It is true though that the main audience consists of teen girls, and my mom does like them.
2) Harry Potter and Twilight are very different in plot and character areas, though they are similur in the way that they are both top-sellers and awesome!
3) I think that the casting solutions were Ok, and with Shark Boy as Jacob, if they ever wanted to make a movie of New Moon or Eclipse they would have to either do serious make up work, wait a long time, or get somebody else to play Jacob then, because hes supposed to have the body of a 21 year old then, and this guy is just too young looking for that role.
4) Twilight has a lot more fans from being a book then from being a movie. Bye :).
But seriously, if you haven't read the books, then go to a library and read them!
I knew the guy that performs Jacob was the 1st in the list, but I didn't knew that Stewart (BELLA) was nº3! WHOA! that's great. THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE HUGE =)
Twilight fans are definitely the most obsessive (not to mention most agressive if provoked) fans in the world.
GO TEAM TWILIGHT!
Reason: (1) As said, most readers and people who really like it are teenage girls. Guys think the series are such chick's books. True, the real essence in the series included mainly romance. Unlike Harry Potter, the Twilights lack the sense of friendship bond, adventures, and many things beyond Bella and Edward's love. So though they may be great books, they don't have the power to knock into greater reader pool and would not attract so many audiences, since they lacked the boy's part in the books; it's just love and romance.
(2) The language in the book is not as sophisticated as Harry Potter's. Set aside the first-person narration, the tone and style in Twilights are mostly flamboyant and lively. Unlike Harry Potter, Twlights don't have the third-person-omniscient advantage, where the readers know the events and plot in a broader point of view than just from a certain main character's (Bella's) point of view. Having a main character be the narrator of a story is even less effective than having someone who's not a main character telling the story. Major characters tend to impose too much of themselves into he events and narration and cause biased viewpoints.
1. Fantasy books
2. Series with a large fanbase and:
3. Series that teens love.
People please, comparing Twilight and Harry Potter is almost like comparing Gone with the Wind and Lord of the Rings. They are completely different series that have taken the world by storm. Harry Potter is aimed for younger kids while Twilight is aimed for teens/young adults. So, please, tone down and don't give us "ZOMG!!! TWILIGHT ROCKZZZZ!! I LOVE EDWARD!!!11111." I HATE it when people write that way. This comment board is burning my eyes already.
JRR Tolkien spent his whole life writing background books to his trilogy of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, Jane Austen gradually worked her way up on the charts, and George Bernard Shaw had a horrible family life and his works didn't go very far at all for quite a long time. Those are just a few of the truly great authors.
I have written and read avidly and until you start writing yourself, you won't develop a complete appreciation for true literature. Stephenie Myer may have talent, but it is not as amazing as the authors of old. Nowadays, anything can get published and made into a movie. If you want a masterpiece, refer to Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia and other classics. And if you would like a great book about vampires, read Dracula by Brom Stoker. For those of you who disagree, I'm willing to listen to what you have to say--just debate it intelligently and maturely, please.
it will be much better, and i like harry potter but
Twilight just have the qualitys i look for in a good book
you would enjoy :D ahemm. ( 14 )
He's exactly my brand of heroine. ;-)
As stated before, there is no comparison at all between the Twilight books and Harry Potter. As far as that goes, I mean, who could compare Hogwarts and Forks??? The stories and characters are so different.
One last little bitty thing-- teenaged girls are some of the coolest and most loyal fans around. If you can get yourself a whole legion of teen-girl fans, you're pretty well off. And if you can get thier mothers and grandparents to read the book with them-- well, Stephenie Meyer, you're a genius!
DIBS.
DIBS ON TAYLOR LAUTNER. that's all i want, that's all i needed to say.
respect the dibs and see you when the movie comes out :]
Harry Potter: 100+ mil
Twilight: ?
Anyways, Twilight is being labled at this moment, just like HP was. Twilight and Harry Potter merely have three major things in common
1. The fan-base
2. They are both fantasies
3. Both were/are underestimated before it came/comes to theatres
We have some amazing actors portraying these characters and thus far it looks great.

Twi-haaaaards!
As for the fact that you ppl who havent read it keep comparing it to harry potter is a disgrace to twilight because harry potter is no where near as AWSOME as twlight is . i say this being the harry potter hater i am but i think that twlight has more love and less english terms and spelling so is much easier to read than harry potter . Harry potter is also mainly focused on the action where Twilight is an action packed drama teen love story and has more to the overall plot than harry does. Twilight is always chalked full of suspense expect in maybe one or two of the chapters in New moon then poicks up once again. Where as harry potter consatnly has "dead" chapters to it places where you can put the book down.
I am very exicted about the movie in december and only have one complaint about the casting and that is the actor playin edward isnt prefect looking engough but then again nobody can look like edward is supposed to hes just to prefect. I am very happy with the Jacob Black , Bella Swan, Alice Cullen and Angela
thank you,
EKR and OC
ps- i love EDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, these books are addicting and there are so many people who can't wait to go to the movie. Like me and a group of my friends! We are actually planning on going to the movie and dressing up as some of the craacters!
It's everywere! Even Mitch Hansen, who you should all know for his CD Twilight Hour, has read the books! They are very inspirational! They inspired Mitch to write the songs for his disk just liek the books inspired me to continue with my own novel!
Everyone I know has read these books! Honestly, if you put Twilight Saga into google there are so many different fan sites you can go to it isn't even funny!
The Twilight Saga is literally the best book series in the world! Trust me, I have read a lot of books. I happen to have multiple spare periods within school were I am in a library reading. Through this time I tend to read the Twilight Saga over and over though. I read each book over 1000 times in about 2 or 3 months, no joke. I'm a book worm! ^^
I swear, if anyone thought the Harry Potter series was good they would thing the Twilight Saga is better!I don't think anyone could see differently... except for one of my friends but that is only because she doesn't like Bella. She doesn't like Bella because she is pretty much a mary-sue character, a character that attracts pretty much all the guys for almost no reason at all.
Then again... she think's the only good writing is from the book Wuthering Heights - which is mentioned multiple a time in the Twilight Saga.
Other than that... EVERYONE I KNOW LOVED THE TWILIGHT SAGA! Trust me, I also know a lot of people. I tend to move around a lot. ^_-
Can't wait to read your next book Stephenie! Maybe you'll even read mine if I get mine published!
As for the subject of the actual movie, I for one am super excited! The cast is absolutely wonderful (though I admit, I had some doubts in the beginning about Robert, which quickly faded away) and from the clips that I've seen online, I'm sure it won't fail to bring huge bucks to the box office.
In comparison to Harry Potter, (which I also love as a series) it seems as if Twilight does have a good chance to match, if not beating J.K. Rowling's series.
On an ending note, I just want to say good luck to the Cast, Crew, and Stephenie on the movie!
"Keep very still." As if I wasn't still already.
soo excited
just finished reading twilight again..lol
I wonder if Edward will turn her into a vampire..
also i wish it was the last book=[
And may I add, can some of you guys lay off Jacob, bless him lol. He can't help that he loves Bella, I'm not saying that Bella should be with him - definately not, it can only be Edward - but I quite like the guy, though i am in love with Edward haha, just cut him some slack - hey, at least he didn't imprint.
Anyway, great book, way to go Stephanie Meyer. Harry Potter comes nowhere near!
People Who Haven't Heard Of Twilight Are Strange Hehe. I Love It The Best Book Ive Ever Read And I'm A Big Harry Potter Fan But I Think The Twilight Series Beats It By Miles! Stephiane Mayer Is An Amazing Writer And Makes The Charectors Feel So real And Thats One Of the reasons I Love It. I Can't Wait Till The Film Comes Out Or Breaking Dawn. But I Do Wish It Wasn't The Last One In The Series because Now What Am I Going To Read Haha.
xxx
i reckon stephenie meyer is a really good author even if she stays home it just makes her all the better & i CANT WAITT til breaking dawn cums out=]
i cant wait til december 12 i realllyy do think the movie is gonna be a success even though no one could really capture the beauty & seductiveness of edward cullen, it wud be tooo hard hes just toooo PERFECTLY HOTTTT cant wait & hope it speeds up
i hope the movie does justice to the book thats wat we're all waiting forrr
First, I have nothing against this article, or the person who wrote it. I take it as someone realizing an unknown phenomenon hitting the movie world by surprise, and I take it as a good thing.
Will it be bigger than Harry Potter? How exactly do you define big? The Hype? The fan base? The sheer know-ability of the book and story? The obsessive nature of the fans? So far I’ve only noticed things that differ from the two. I don’t ever remember HP fans trying to creep onto the set, trying to grab some photos of the cast, camping days in the hope of even catching a glimpse. Or groups who planned to tour to places mentioned in the story, long before it was seen in the movie. No one was ever too interested in who would be playing the supporting cast (well not entirely true, I remember the controversy about the Cho Chang choice). Harry Potter is popular in the sense that everyone knows about it, and because of huge marketing done by the BIG movie companies, it reaches everywhere. While Twilight here has been picked up by an unknown studio, yet the hype is HUGE. I grew with HP. I love it still. But you just CAN’T compare the two.
And Twilight being reminisce of The Covenant? Yeah, the visuals might seem like The Covenant, and the generalised story-line, about a mortal and some supernatural being, falling in love, and bad guys coming in and messing everything up, might be similar. But any movie that you give a general kind of plot would sound a lot like that. And Twilight is so much more than that. It isn’t clichéd, but when you try and explain it, it just sounds ridiculous...
ME: Oh you have you read this book. It’s about a girl who falls in love with a Vampire, but like he REALLY craves her blood. And there’s this whole thing about him not wanting to curse her to eternal damnation. And then these bad Vampires come along and try to kill her. But Edwards, that’s the Vampires name by the way, family try to save her. It’s sooo good. And did I mention that he is the perfect gentle man AND he’s the most gorgeous thing to walk the earth?
THEM: Yeah...right... (Rolls eyes, and nods head reluctantly)
You just can’t sum up in your words, Twilight, in its entirety. Like it was said before, it is a read-to-understand kinda thing
The RESPONSES of those not particularly in the know of the Twilight fandom, however, really P’d me off. Don’t go generalising the book. And don’t go stereotyping the audience. When I first heard about Twilight, it was from a school librarian (she was 60+ and one of those grumpy librarians who you tried to stay out of their way). She said something along the lines of “I loved this book. It’s a love story about a girl and a vampire....blah...blah...†I stopped paying attention after ‘love story’... I thought “how in the hell would a book she likes, I’ll even touch?†But I told a friend about the recommended book. She went mad, saying I HAVE to read it. So I did. Picked it up (reluctantly) at the local library and it was two weeks overdue before I returned it. I loved it that much. I’m just saying, this movie (and book) will be (is) huge. Just watch the Fan girl/boy/mum/dad/gran/pop hysteria unravel. Let’s all just see what happens. THEN we can go “Nyah nyah..... Told you soâ€Â.
And Duca....
From what you have seen, would mean not very much right? Because to fully realise the magnitude of the potential success of Twilight, comes FROM the “pre-existing†fanbase. They will be the ones to first watch the movie. They will be the ones to spread the word.
And the comparison of Twilight to Eragon? I DON’T THINK SO. Again, the Inheritance series I read before the movie came out. And what you said about Eragon having a huge female following? The majority if the readers I know haven’t even picked up a book from the Inheritance series. And the HYPE for the movie? There was practically NO hype with Eragon. I mean I loved the books, but I guess the build up of the movie just wasn’t as good. Compared to the already strong fanbase for Twilight, Eragon doesn’t even fare on the same scale. And yes this is a movie blog. A blog about MOVIES, but this movie is based on a very popular book, and those who know about this movie will more than likely be those who have known about the book, and therefore be the ones informed enough to comment on Twilight related topics. And not to say that those who haven’t read it, shouldn’t have a say. Everyone should write what they think. AND because the movie is, let’s see not finished yet... I see it as fair to talk about the movie AND book. And will it compete well against the likes of The Hulk and Terminator? Since when were these movies to be compared to?
And the stuff available online, not all is a good indication of how this movie might turn out. Most of the stuff that people have seen and say it looks a lot like The Covenant are the interesting fight action scenes. And if you know about the book, you’ll realise only a small part of the story line is about the actual physical fighting etc.
Be careful on who we “hate on If (and I’m thinking this is highly likely) Twilight goes above and beyond the benchmarked expectations of the likes of Eragon, who do you think should have been careful on who THEY’VE been hating on...k?
And another thing... this “skaught†guy. WTF is your problem? “teen-lit vamp orgy†You can’t think of anything to back up your anti-Twilight tirade so you whiplash it by making it sound like some sick sadistic thing? Yeah the “middle-to-old-age†fans are coming out, maybe because some one -_- keeps mentioning these books as teen lit, and in a not too nice way either. Might want to have some evidence before you talk about a highly popular book, who have funs, that WILL say something...
Oh and not to mention TylerJ.... You call it an highly “unoriginal story†and you base that argument on what exactly? I mean for what you say to be actually VALID you must have read the books right? And you PERSONALLY know the TwilightMoms, every single one of them? That you could say they dress like their children etc...? Yeah... I didn’t think so.
Of course Twilight IS girl-teen targeted. When it comes to selling/marketing something, there needs to be a certain demographic that the product will try to appeal to, but it doesn’t mean it’s JUST for teens. So Twilight fans that get angry with that fact need to calm down a bit. Same as Harry Potter is a “children’s book†that has captured those of all ages. That said though, people who have not read the book or know very little about it and disregard Twilight as a bad book and therefore will be a bad movie, need to think about that. You obviously can’t pass judgement yet, right? And I, and avid reader AND movie buff can kind of see both sides of the argument. I have friends who absolutely hate the idea of Twilight, and those who LOVE Harry Potter. When people hate something it is often because they know nothing, or little, about that subject. So in the upcoming event of the ACTUAL release of Twilight the movie, why don’t those who really want to get what all these “twilighters†are talking about, sit down and read a bit of Twilight? And then if you’re STILL not swayed to think positively about the movie, then hey, whatever we say is not going to change that.
And if you haven’t guessed I’m a PRO-anything-Twilight. But I am not ANTI anything, well maybe anti those, anti-Twilight, but you get my drift. Which means of course I will be biased somewhat to Twilight, but I just hope you get what I’m driving at?
And I also think that Twilight is the love story for our generation. Instead of the ol’ “Is he a Romeo?†The question will be “Is he an Edward?â€Â
And I know this post is long but those people just made be soo mad. I’ve never been so ready to defend a book or movie. Just goes to say about the pull of Twilight.
And to finish I’m just happy to see that the movie is being made, and cast well (hell, they are pretty boys, because in the BOOK they are described as being inhumanly beautiful....). Let’s just hope it doesn’t tank and prove people wrong =D
got a bit carried away there.
SORREEE
-waits till december- :O
people should definately read these books. best romance novels ever. Edward makes my heart melt....
im too addicted. its all i talk about.
Izz x
p.s. Harry who?
I just want to iterate the fact that I am NOT a teenager, but I am waiting in eager anticipation for the release of the Twilight movie.
Also, I realize that this movie is projected towards young teen girls, but I happen to know several men (as young as a 12 year old and the oldest is 65, as well as my two older brothers (26 and 28) and my younger brother (17)) that are major fans and can't wait for the movie to come out.
Granted, most male fans tend to keep the fact of their fanatic excitement quiet (after all, a romantic book about vampires isn't exactly the epitome of manliness, right?), but they ARE out there.
You just have to look. :)
I hold HP in a very special place in my heart, I began reading the first book when I was 8, and grew up finishing out the series.
I hold twilight as my "new" obsession. In some ways, I love it way more than I could ever love harry potter, and in other ways it just doesnt compare.
The point im trying to make here is that the two series are extremely different from each other.
a few obvious differences:
1) harry is a wizard fighting another evil wizard, while Bella is an average teenage girl who happens to be in love with a vampire, and that love puts her life in danger
2) magic vs. vampires and werewolves
To compare twlight fans to harry potter fans isnt right. They are two very different types of people, although most are fans of both series.
It shouldnt be a contest between hit series for fans,or which brings in the most money, but rather which series pleases fans more.
Afterall, the movie, books, etc. are ALL for the FANS. not for money or prestige.
As for the whole box office situation...Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is one of the most action-filled novels. Twilight has the mysteriousness and romance that catches the eye of teenagers of both genders. Harry Potter will get their fans, but I do believe Twilight will win. Why do I think this? Twilight is loved by both genders, just like Harry Potter. However, Twilight has a more romantic action to it. Romance and action together form not only the best movie possible, but also the perfect set-up for a date movie. Or a family movie. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was a much more violent book in comparison to Twilight. I believe that not only will Twilight draw its teenage fans, but parents may be more willing to allow their children to view a romance-based film rather than a more destruction-filled movie.
I do like both. It's just a matter of preference.
Still loving my vamps and wolves,
Manda
I didn't think that it would be so huge but it will be!
And I guess it'll be interesting to see how the movie will turn out to be but not only twilight but Harry Potter!
I guess we'll just see which movie will get more succesfully but I hope
Twilight and Harry Potter fans won't argue about this!
After all it's just a movie!
xoxoxoxo
I love this book! honestly..
I was like on this mall on the book section because my dad had to get some books and the cover like was cute and I just went into it and read the back part that said the thing of "I know 3 things. First, Edward is a vampire. Second, one of his sides would die to drink my blood. And thirtd, I'm totally and really inlove with him" or something like that hehe (i'm spanish so i read it on spanish)
and i read it and now i have JUST finished new moon! my mom has to buy me eclipse and i cant wait for the movie...=)

.:EDWARDLOVE:.
hes okey oh for any robert fans i don't mean to hurt your fellings, i just want the movie to be the best!
i didnt think i would and everyone was reading it and i was all like "I'm not going to get sucked into this..." but i did! i read all three books in -like- 4 days!!! i just couldnt put them down! :D
And for that I am grateful.
New Moon was a bit depressing .... =P
jacob fits as a friend
BTW, can't wait for movie and breaking dawn,
luv ya,
micky.
However there is one similarity that came to me today one I was out taking a walk. Both books have the same underlying message and theme. They're both about making choices. They both say that there is always a choice to make no matter what situation you are presented in. Stephenie Meyer talked about this being her main point in her interview with Time Magazine...
(I didn't mean for that to be a comparison of the two completely different works so much as a comment on comparing two things that have gained a noticeable amount of adoration in the recent years.)
And on that note... Just a small prediction on the next book, Breaking Dawn. If Stephenie Meyer wants to emphasize the fact that there is always a choice do you think that will effect Jacob's outcome? I'm not saying Bella will choose him or anything but I'm thinking that he may imprint someone and make the choice to not be with whoever that may be... Just a thought.
i know plenty of people who have read this book (actually most of them) that aren't teenage girls...
and i have no idea how taylor whatever his name is could be #1... i mean bleh! he is nothing like what i imagined for jacob
and of course, like any other twilight freak, i am going to probably see the movie like a billion times and am desperately waiting for it to come out... sigh. geeky much?
well as a harry potter fan and a twilight fan i think that about the only thing that they have in common is that they are both fantasy books that don't follow the norm, and other than that, they are very different books... i personally like twilight better but they are both very good books and since they are so different, i think that you couldn't compare the two, because they fall into completely different categories.
i mean anyone who had read both of these books would know that... twilight is a love story, and harry potter is an action book. i hate that you try to compare the two...
also that is one reason that i think that the twilight movie will be so not as good as the book is because look at harry potter, i mean the movies are relatively the same as the books, but some small but important (well to me at least) parts are left out... i almost think that anyone who likes the twilight books a lot should go into the movie open-minded and just try to look at it like just another movie and not try to make it fit with the book, or i think that we will be critiquing like crazy... and from the clips that i have seen so far, it looks like it will be a cool movie, just i think that it seems more based off the books and not exactly like them... sigh i don't know but i just know that i will be in the theater on opening night sitting on the edge of my seat probably bouncing in anticipation waiting for the movie to start =) it makes me anxious just thinking about it...
well i hope all u twilight fans like the movie and it isn't too off the book =D
i love these books
i love edward cullen

Anyway, those who are hating the Twilight Series really need to go past the whole "but those who read it turn into creepy zombies!" Yeah, so we do, but who really cares? Once you read it, it won't matter, anyway. And it really is THE BEST series ever. I love Harry Potter, and all, but I moved on when I read Twilight. After all, shiny vampires will always beat wizards, with or without the brooms.
So Twilight rules. And if you haven't read it, I will force you. I know where you live ;) (and if you really need a disclaimer to go with that, then here it is:
Disclaimer: I do not know where you live.
There we go)
What I'm mostly surprised about is the number of people who have never even heard of the series. Those people need to come out of their shells and see the light!
In other words: read Twilight. Seriously. Then you'll actually know what I mean.
And now I'm done XD
and my friends and i have such a strong obsession that we decided to throw a birthday party for a Edward a fictional character whom everyday at least one person wishes is real
because i know i do
whoever lives near greenbay and is as obsessed as we are with twilight talk to me
if you live close enough you might be able to come to the vampires birthday party
heck my mom even loves it
So many people, God /film must be shocked at how big the fan-base is xD There are also tons of fans who don't even know about this site, so just having those of us who actually have acess to a computer and this information must be "wow" xD.
Expect a lot of people at the theatres in December! :]!!!

Is this the most amount of response you've gotten on an article ever?
Maybe you should put out MORE Twilight stuff
We eat it up
25-years old and Twilight OBSESSED!!!
It's annoying
i feel that twilight should not be compared to other books
and movies because it is its own book and soon to be
movie[cant wait]......this book series is like the hottest topic
at my school...all guys and girls even the teachers
are reading it!!!i have a countdown goin
and im waitin.......stephenie meyer did an awsome job!!!
I wasn't so sure about Robert at first but I'm starting to warm to him. In no way is he as gorgeous as Edward but I think hes pretty good.
the answer is simple
read the book and find out yourself=]
and dont make judgements before you read it
and it is not the next harry potter
the stories have little in common
they are both great though!!
I do want to take the opportunity to say that while I love these books and they are currently in my top 5 list, there are many, many books worth reading out there. But in my opinion, anything that gets people reading on a regular basis is a good thing. While these books are brilliant, please don't let them be the end all of your literary experience. Several people have recently pointed out the merits of classical authors who honed their craft and took years creating worlds. I doubt that any author in our day can truly be compared to them right now. But Stephanie Meyer's entrance into the world of publishing is (as far as I know) nearly unprecedented. She is very good, especially for a new author. Tolkien (crud...spelling??? Its 4 in the morning, sorry LOTR fans) was a genius. At the same time, his books are sometimes difficult for (especially younger readers) to get through because of the sheer amount of overwhelming detail in them. I LOVE them, don't get me wrong. But when he started, he did so with the INTENT to create a mythology that he felt was missing for the culture he grew up in. And he succeeded in his attempt. Does this mean that he is any more creative in nature than Stephanie? In my opinion, no. Does it mean he was a better author? That, I am afraid, is entirely a matter of opinion. What is it that makes a "great" author vs. a "good" one? I would have to say that it is time. Does it make Stephanie less of an author if her work was accepted more quickly? No. Does the fact that the idea for her work came to her in a dream somehow undermine the quality of the story or finished work? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I am in the middle of writing a story based on a dream I had, and I WISH I had her ability to sit down and crank it out!!! I've been working on my books for over a decade now. To dismiss her talent for writing high quality fiction in short amounts of time by stating that "Anyone can publish anything now." is a going a bit too far. A sample of "The Host" that I have seen looks quite promising, and I look forward to seeing her talent displayed in a variety of settings. It may not be in our power to say whether Stephanie Meyer's work will stand up to the test of time and join the ranks of authors like Jane Austen. But, I will say this: I personally wouldn't ever bet against her.
Stephenie Meyer is amazing!
I brought the books two weeks ago and am reading them for the third time, all of my friends groan whenever I mention Twilight, New Moon or Eclipse now 'cause I haven't been able to shut up about them.
Robert Pattinson is PERFECT to play Edward, although I'm not sure about Kristen Stewart playing Bella...
All the best,
Gracie
The Harry Potter movies were not as big of a success because of J.K. Rowling's style of writing. Everything she puts in her books is meticulously crafted, every detail worked out, and every detail is important. There are so many things you just can't DROP OUT, and that makes making it into a movie very, very hard.
Eragon failed as a movie because of the people in the movie. The actors and actresses, in my opinion, simply didn't fit the role, and it was also very poorly written. It happens.
Twilight is going to succeed because it doesn't have either of these problems. Stephenie Meyer doesn't write anything like J.K. Rowling; she simply pours out the emotions on the page, and most of her plots are simply character driven, not meticulously crafted like Rowling. It's so much easier to turn into a movie; extremely. Also, if anyone has gone to Stephenie Meyer's website and looked at all the behind the scenes links she has, most of them going to MTV.com, then you can see many interviews and such of the actors in front of and behind the camera. I've watched them all several times, and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. They all seem to fit their part perfectly, you can see the chemistry oozing between Rob and Kristen when they're filming, and the action shots look amazing. I'm sorry, but right now Twilight looks like it's going to be a gigantic hit.
That is, of course, simply my opinion. It still has the potential to flop. But right now, I think anyone who's done their reseach can agree that the Twilight movie is going to be a HUGE hit. It'll break box office records just because it's got so many fans who will come just to compare between the movie and the book.
I am a mother, not of a teenage girl. I saw a review in People Mag about Eclipse (the 3rd book in the series) and checked the first book out of the library. (It is in the young adult section.) It was a great love-story with a ton of adventure on the side. I think the only comparison that people can make to Harry Potter is that it has a huge group of people who may not have been that excited about reading, now clamoring for more. It has a huge fan base, which just continues to grow. I think that this book could appeal to almost anyone, though. Stephenie makes the vampires seem like they could be your neighbors next door. Great job Stephenie...can't wait to see if the movie is as good as the books!
I think twilight, new moon and eclipse are WONDERFUL!!!!!!
I can't believe a lot of people is wrinting there about them...Those books are SURELY better than Harry Potter but probably they interest a more romantic or older youngs... Don't think a 12 years old girl could like twilight more than Harry Potter...
ALL THE BEST to the Edward and Bella's funs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Isn't Edward the best boy you could ever meet trhough he's a vampire???)
I wasn’t so sure about Robert at first but I’m starting to warm to him. In no way is he as gorgeous as Edward but I think hes pretty good.
Who could believe that a stay at home mom had such good taste in music and a gift in stringing words together to make one of the greatest stories ever told?
Rock on Stephenie! :)
how they discribe edward!wish he could be real!!!
how they discribe edward!wish he could be real!!!
..wish he was real..
As for comparing twilight to harry potter, they are very different, but also a lot alike. they both have teen kids hooked, and i will definitely enjoy seeing which did better when the movies come. i have hope for twilight. They did better book wise, im sure it will do better movie wise too.
and it being a book for only teen girls, i beg to differ. yes most fans of the books are teen girls, but i know plenty of young girls who read the books, also mothers in thirties, forties, and even fifties. i have not encountered many male readers, i have to admit, but im sure if more guys gave it a chance there would be a lot of them who liked it.
Which brings me to my next topic, on fans of the book becoming to dependent on the movie. I am very excited for the movie, and can't wait to see it, but on the fan sites they are only talking about the movie. all discussions are on what new behind the scenes clips there are online now, and not many people are talking about the actual books. Breaking dawn is coming out long before the movie. the first chapter is being released on may 31, yet everyone is talking about the movie. also the movie sets that i see in the movie clips are ruining the mental images in my head that i had when reading the book. Im sorry but this is a big deal for me.

*scream*
sigh... i can't wait!!
TAYLOR LAUNTER!!!
*SCREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM*
...
smart enough not to get too close or who
knows what could happen!!!!!
you cant even compare the two series because i love them both and they are like two different genres. i dont think it will be the next harry potter. i think it will have a larger fanbase. i think that the people that hate twilight are just singleminded. not every tween like twilight my mom is 36 and she is reading the series and she liked the book soooo much. we saw the movie and were going to go see it again
Twilight knocked HARRY POTTER off da list!
and yes.
i AM a teen girl whos OBSESSED by twilight
though i do not approve of Robert Pattison, who plays Edward in this case.
HE is...
not
not gentle enough,
not enough sweetness in him.
i mean SERiOUSLY!
we're talking about a guy who fell in love with his "soul"mate after a century of loveless life!
sure he had his family, but not bella.
not yet.
the book was 10000000000 times better!
not hatin on the movie though...
because it was actually pretty good.
Call me a nerd if you will...
but i wrote a 188 page long story because of TWILIGHT
whereas Harry Potter onl influenced my enjoyment.
I don't like the way they made the movie...
its pretty good but it doesnt fit the mood the book creates for us.
I'm not a hater.
just an opinionizer.
but no matter WHAT
i will ALWAY be in love with Twilight and the charactes who could so easily jump into our world and create another romance story that simply MUST be acknowledged.

Twilight is transparent; it's a pathetic, meaningless, redundant purple prose with ZERO complexity. You don't even need your thinking ability, there is no plot so you can actually link stuff, I've read the series, ALL of it and not once I went like "OH that's why she didn't have him explain why he didn't do that " or "OH that's why she said that vague thing earlier". While reading Twilight, I could've literally taken out my brain and still understood it.
Twilight is not as well known as Harry Potter; just point out round glassed or a lighting shaped scar, and see the first thing that comes to mind to the person you're asking, whether the person is a male, female, an adult, a teenager or a child, I am 100% sure that the person will say HARRY POTTER. I am perfectly sure that people across the globe know of Harry Potter more than Twilight, have you considered the number of fans it has, from Asia to America, and from the North Pole to the South Pole(even though it's an unpopulated region). While if you ask someone who lives in let's say Pakistan if they know about Twilight, I am sure they will say we know what twilight is, it's both the time before sunrise called dawn and the time after sunset called dusk!.
Twilight sorry to say, has no morals compared to Harry Potter. It's just a matter of the way you look into it, it's wrong to compare Stephanie Meyers to J.K Rowling because they have nothing in common, as J.K created a new different world, a world you can indulge yourself in where you can immerse your senses and unleash your imagination. Stephanie's work is something common, I guess there are a lot of references to human and vampire affection in many books, since vampires are known to be lustful and seductive. When people say that Stephanie is the new J.K; well I take it as wishful thinking as this can never happen, no matter what!
And like Kelsey said, Twilight has got a lesser number of sales compared to Harry Potter. Harry Potter sales are a lot more than you think Twilighters, Harry Potter is translated to more than 67 languages, it has films, video games, toys, clothes, a theme park, food (Chocolate frogsBertie Botts beans and more)... ETC. The books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, while Twilight only sold 25 million, you can see the VAST difference between them.
OK so Stephanie Mayer just dreamed about Twilight and started writing, she didn't plan her plot I'm sure of it, and mark my words this affected her plot severely. There are no subplots to keep you interested, there's only one plot and that plot revolves around Bella loving Edward, Edward loving Bella, Jacob loving Bella and Bella loving Jacob. Comparing Stephanie Meyer's plot to J.K Rowling's amazing plot is rather silly, because J.K created a new world filled with details beyond description, and do not forget her subplots, J.K's subplots are far more complex than Stephanie's main plot in the first place.
(cont..)
Do not get me started on Stephanie's style of writing, although some may find it good, it's very weak, she uses words too often and she writes three chapters each time she wants to describe how good looking Edward is, I started disliking the word 'smoldering' good lord, how many times did she use that ?!. Also she frequently adds a big word to simple sentences just to make it look more professional, and I honestly think that's what middle schoolers do, at least I used to do that in middle school. And as the first person style she used, well what is so fascinating about her writing in first person, I've recently discovered that it only makes the book longer and more boring, when she writes in first person she can add more details like this made up one here: "Bella smelled the amazing vapor of the hot water pouring from her shower mixed with her shampoo". I practically vomited at each and every sick, cheesy love scene she wrote, and of course the love sentences from Edward to Bella "My life was moonless before you..... Or whatever it was". Now can Stephanie's style of writing compare to J.K's captivating, amazing writing ?! Firstly, J.K started her writing easy, so that six year olds can read her books, then the books developed as each and every fan grew, the books grew with them NOT losing the amazing captivity they possess. Secondly, J.K doesn't use words too often, she tends to vary her ways of describing something, and NONE of her dialogue lines where cheesy at all. Thirdly, did J.K ever write 3 long chapters on how Harry was the chosen one in each and every book ?! Alright I know that it was mentioned in each book, but she NEVER SAID more than "The boy who lived", see, a simple small sentence that takes only a tiny space in the book, not oh how perfect incredibly long paragraphs on Edward's smoldering golden eyes, amazing beauty or his sparkle.
Also don't forget that Stephanie's saga is basically for little 13 year olds who didn't read many books to be able to judge. But seriously, she stole her plot basically, now if any of the Twilighters ever read a classic book, or at least any OTHER book they'd understand what I mean!. Stephanie's plot isn't new; well I don't call humanvampire affection new that is used in so many books. Since vampires are known to be very seductive and lustful. So this means her plot is common, someone long ago had that idea, the idea was written in many other amazingly written books, so why waste the time and pathetically try to copy a plot in a very crappy way that makes the reader want to hurl ?! Now, tell me have you EVER read any other plot that has, even the slightest similarity to Harry Potter ?! No there are no plots like it; J.K worked 15 years on it!! 15 years for crying out loud! We have to appreciate her work, she not only made drafts, she made drafts for the drafts, now how can that NOT BE professional, and how can we not take that for granted ?! And look how her books turned out to be! Thank god her work paid off.
Of course when it comes to Stephanie's characters, well not all of them, but most, are very annoying and rather dimwitted, who would wish to relate to them. Starting with Bella, the sick dependent, whiny, dreamless, ambition-less pathetic, oh-I'm-going-to-die every three pages and no-one-notices-me type of girl, to the oh-so-perfect-god, the amazingly handsome, brilliant, obsessive, ABUSIVE Edward.. The only good character she has is Jacob! And he is the one I was referring to when I said "Not all of them". Of course that didn't last, she wrecked Jacob when she made him a pedophile, honestly imprinting Nessie, and it’s sickening. Now look at J.K's characters, NONE of them is useless, none of them was left behind, I could easily give up some of the characters from Stephanie's series, but Neville the one character we thought to be useless KILLED NAGINI, the Horcrux, that is character DEVELOPMENT. Severus, look at Snape, he's a masterpiece no character was ever as complex as he is!! Dumbledore, we all thought we knew him so well, then she surprises us with that amazing past, and complexity! Voldemort, even Voldemort the villain, he too is amazing, he is so complex, the way he became Voldemort is just enough to intrigue any reader!

I don't know why you feel a need to tear down one book in order to lift another up. Both series are wonderful in their own way.
Oh and what morals can you learn from Twilight ?! List ONE GOOD moral, just one and I'll back out, let me tell you what I learned from it:
1- Females are stupid, whiny and they should have no dreams or ambitions, they should lust the perfect man and that's it. Look at Bella, she PROVES that.
2- You have two men fighting over you, then you have succeeded in becoming the perfect female, and may the dominant male win.. Like animals you see! Jacob and Edward fighting over precious Bella.
3- You should forget your friends, your loved ones for this so called perfect man. Look at how Bella treats her friends, how she sulks around the house because oh so poor Bella doesn't have a boyfriend.
4- Men should be abusive, controlling and obsessive to the point that they sabotage your car so you don't go out, to the point that they look at you when you're sleeping.. To these creepy points, that scares me just by reading them. Thank you Edward!
Now let me tell you what I learned from Harry Potter which I grew up with, and you tell me which book has better morals:
2- Care for your friends, family and loved ones.
3- Love is important, you should know that it's one of the important essentials of life, no one and I mean NO ONE can live, if they're not loved.
4- Be brave, you may be small, young, foolish and careless. BUT! You sure can do a change in life.
5- Do not let anyone or anything, drive you away from doing what is right, what you believe in.
6- Just look at the amazing, truly deep, meaningful things that Dumbledore says. Look at how many quotes you can take from his speech ?
7- Facing obstacles ? Do not let that get you down, no! Go and try again and again and again, until you do it right.
8- Study! It's important that you learn, not only learn how to 'fight evil' or 'magic unreal stuff' No! Learn and be eager for learning, sure they teach magical subjects in Hogwarts, but please, I have a brain and so do others.. That sends a message to all of us, saying learning is essential and most importantly you cannot live without it.
8- Sacrifice, you must favour others, over yourself.
So which one has better morals ?!
Don't get me started on Breaking Dawn, yes I read it.. It doesn't deserve to be called a book.
Twilight Rocks 4 eva!
(Sorry every one meant to write comment here!)
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BREAKING DAWN DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE CALLED A BOOK!!!
I mean seriously if you hate Twilight so much then why did you even bother to read to the fourth book?! Why didn't you just call it quits after the first one?!
By the way I've already given you one good moral and I could give you many many more.
So please BACK DOWN!!!
i love both the books, though i have to say if i had to pick one it would be
... harry potter.
not because of the bad writing, which in my opinion isnt so bad except for the repetition of several words.
not because of the annoying love scenes.
not because of the bad characters but for one simple reason
and this is that jk rowling created a whole new world, one that you can imagine in full detail and makes you want to be a part of.
i love twilight and though i dont think that the love scenes are annoying the characters bad, and the writing inaccurate, vampires arent as magical to ME as creating the whole wizarding world one which no one has dared to copy.
an original.
vampires have been done.
to end i wont stop reading twilight im still an avid fan.
the books captivate me and i enjoy them greatly.
the writing is very entertaining and next to harry potter this is one of my favourite series.
